2016 Marvel Infinite Series Figures: Yondu! Lockjaw! Ulik!

Over the weekend, I decided to take some time to discuss the revival of Hasbro Marvel Comic Packs coming up in 2016. But of course, those two-packs won’t be the only 4″ Marvel Infinite Series figures coming our way this winter! The successor to the Marvel Universe line rolls on next year, with six figures each in Marvel Infinite Series 2016 Wave 1 and Wave 2… and, oh yeah: Lockjaw is coming!

Marvel Infinite Series 2016 Captain Marvel Carol Danvers Figurwe

While distribution to this year’s Hasbro Marvel Infinite Series figures has been spotty (and fan response likewise due to decreased articulation in most of the new tooling that has been created for the line this year), collectors of the beloved Hasbro Marvel 3 3/4″ scale need not fear: the line seems to be alive and well heading into 2016.

And at San Diego Comic-Con 2015, Hasbro showed off over two dozen figures coming to the Marvel Infinite Series 2016 lineup, headlined by a Marvel Infinite Series Captain Marvel figure that I think may have a better head sculpt than the larger Marvel Legends version!

Marvel Infinite Series Ulik Action FigureMarvel Universe/Marvel Infinite Series 2016 Wave 1 will include:

  • Spider-Man Noir
  • Ulik
  • Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers)
  • Original Iron Man (Silver)
  • Triton
  • Yondu (Classic)

SDCC 2015 Hasbro Original Iron Man Marvel Infinite Series FigureOf this lineup, there’s only one straight-up repaint of a past figure (Original Iron Man repainted from the Original Avengers Team Pack Gold version), one character in a new guise (Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel), and four characters never-before-done by Hasbro (Yondu, Triton, Spider-Man Noir and Ulik)!

I’ll talk about all of these figures in-depth once Hasbro shows off final prototypes and puts these up for order, but my initial feelings on this wave are pretty positive.

Spider-Man Noir Marvel Infinite Series 4 Inch FigureThere’s a lot of reused tooling from past Marvel Universe figures (particularly on Ulik the Rock Troll), so these figures are super-articulated (for the most part) and not saddled with the prevalent limited poseability of many of this year’s figures.

And as far as character selection goes: Noir Spider-Man and classic Guardians of the Galaxy Yondu…? Take my money, Hasbro.

SDCC 2015 Hasbro Marvel Infinite Series 2016 Wave 2Although they weren’t displayed at the show, the 2016 Marvel Infinite Series Wave 2 figures were also revealed in the SDCC 2015 Hasbro Marvel panel slideshow.

Marvel Infinite Series 2016 Wave 2 will include:

  • The Vision
  • Gamora
  • Rage (!!!) of the New Warriors
  • Spider-Armor Spider-Man
  • Living Laser
  • First Appearance Daredevil (Yellow Costume)

…Talk about some out-of-left-field picks! Rage and the Living Laser are characters I never thought would get the action figure treatment, and I am unbelievably psyched to see both characters coming our way at mass retail from Hasbro next year! Perhaps there’s still hope for my dream of a Speedball action figure…?

Marvel Legend Infinite Series Lockjaw Figure

And yes, there’s still one more big dog to talk about–and I mean that literally! The final Hasbro 3.75″ Marvel 2016 figure to be revealed at SDCC was none other than Inhumans’ giant teleporting dog, Lockjaw!

Lockjaw consistently places highly in unofficial Marvel Legends poll for future Build-A-Figures, and while 6″ fans will have to wait a while longer (or forever) for a Marvel Legends Lockjaw, it looks like a Marvel Universe Lockjaw is on-track for next year.

No word yet on how the Marvel Infinite Series Lockjaw figure will be released, but instinct (and zero insider info) tells me we may be getting some sort of Hasbro SDCC 2016 Exclusive Inhumans Figure Pack (we are still missing Marvel Universe Gorgon and Crystal to complete the Inhumans Royal Family, after all). More on that (probably) in the spring.

Marvel Infinite Series 2016 Yondu Figure Marvel Universe HasbroAll of these 2016 Marvel Infinite Series figures will be available online at BBTS, although I wouldn’t expect to see pre-orders go live for any of these figures until October 2015 or later. The time gap between figures going up for order and being released is rapidly shrinking, and I can’t see any of these figures being released in the United States until November 2015 at the earliest.

Having seen another dozen-plus upcoming Marvel Infinite Series 2016 figures, what do you think about where the line is heading, Marvel collectors? Are you pleased with the character selection and prototypes we’ve seen, or are you in the camps that feels like the Marvel Universe style is continuing to go downhill?

2016 Marvel Infinite Series Figures: Yondu! Lockjaw! Ulik! — 44 Comments

    • I’m pretty astonished by Rage myself. We can add him to the previously released Firestar and (Annihilation) Nova figures to get a sort-of core for the New Warriors. With a different head and some tweaking, the Comic Pack Major Victory can become Marvel Boy as well. Will we ever see Namorita, Night Thrasher and Speedball to complete the team…? (I kind of think not, sadly…)

      • “Astonished by Rage”–that’s amusing. The phrase itself is of what I’m referring to. Sounds like an Avengers Academy solo title or tv spin-off!☺
It’s a beautiful thing MARVEL is doing. THIS is why I collect BOTH marvel figure scales! Rage is on my ML wish list, and I’d gladly take him at 3.75″too!
After Hasbro manifested a Misty Knight figure, I’m not shocked by any choices they make anymore. I’d said that move was a game changer and the toy corp turned a corner where all bets are off and ANYTHING can happen!
I expect(optimistically&logically) the full complement of New Warriors now.
I’m excited and always happy to broaden the ethnic color palette of superheroes on my shelves.
        BTW:Astonishing Avenger Dabid,
the MARK I I.M. armour was originally released in the IRON MAN 2 series.
Then repainted a yellowish gold for the founding AVENGERS MU box set.
(So this figure has been released twice already) no complaints. Just saying.

    • I agree. If Hasbro can maintain the quality of the prototypes into production, the new figures are looking good. My favorites are Gamora, Captain Marvel, and Yondu. Vision and Ulik are “glad to sees” even if Ulik’s body mold is the funky Abomination body. There’s nothing wrong with that mold… but it does make me want to hit the web and see whether all of these body-sharers really have only two toes!!! (Abomination and A-Bomb only have two toes in the comic? )

  1. Lockjaw is a legends scale figure which would put him at 3.75 inches not a 3.75 inch scale Lockjaw……it even says Legends on the slide…

    • Nope! Hasbro referred to all of the 4″ figures as 3.75″ Legends at SDCC. Lockjaw is definitely meant to be part of the Infinite Series.

      • Wow! That’s pretty sneaky, Hasbro! Lol,I had NOT even looked up in the corner of the slide to recognize “legends”or the ML;logo brand on the upper left side. This is “MARVEL UNIVERSE: MARVEL LEGENDS”,
“MARVEL legends(MARVEL)AVENGERS)infinite series” intricate cross branding confusion all over again! LOL.☺!
Careful,Ikarus. Careful. Don’t irk the hot rage of a 1000″Legendeers” with this Lockjaw at smaller scale tack!
We’re getting a LOCKJAW! This is so uber utterly frakin cool..!

        • I have a feeling Lockjaw will be released like something similar to Ant-Man and Antony, instead of a SDCC exclusive. They NEVER announce the exclusive this far in advance. My only concern is, he looks like he’s got no articulation at all…….

          • Can’t really tell by the picture. That’s a digital rendering.
Besides Lockjaw is a dog. Not an ant or a man,how many poa does a k9 need? I’d say five at the most. The reviews on that ant toy are terrible. Loose legs they fall off the sockets. ???
We don’t need that disaster repeated with Lockjaw.

    • Indeed! ?….Wait,what??
      What lack of articulation?
      There isn’t any lack.
      ?Just like”there is no spoon”
It’s all good. I second the notion; keep ’em coming,Hasbro!?

  2. I don’t mind the less articulation and i like the amount of figures getting released, but as for me i will not be getting any of these figures. The only one that i will be getting so far that has been displayed at SDCC is Morbius. I am mainly looking for the remaining Jim Lee x-men, x-men villains, a few more Avenger villains, a few more spiderman villains, 80’s x-men versions, X-force, jim lee x-factor, the rest of alpha flight, and of course dark blue w/ white Invisible Woman that should have been released by now.

  3. As a collector/customizer I am happy to see that Hasbro seems to be listening to the fans and giving back the articulation and I’m sure their sales showed on the shottyer figures that they put out honestly wish the movie lines for marvel would go back to the days of good figures like in the I’M2, Thor, and Captain America lines were… None the less I’m hyped at this news from Hasbro!

  4. Being an old school X-Man fan, I’d love to see some of the supporting cast from back in the day get some figures. Polaris, Banshee, and even some of the New Mutants like Sunspot, Magma, and Wolfsbane. How about Domino from Cable? Still – Polaris and Banshee are the two that REALLY need to be done.

As for the villains – Avalanche, Pyro, Destiny, Black Tom Cassidy, Proteus (wonder how they’d pull that one off), Sebastian Shaw, Kazar & Zabu, Sauron, Deathbird, Lilandra…I could go on and on…

  5. I’d also LOVE to see a Heralds of Galactus series that included Firelord, Gabriel (Air-Walker), Terrax, Nova, and Morg. How about some Micronauts from Jackson Guice? Pip? Quasar? The rest of the original Guardians of the Galaxy (Charlie 27, Martinex, Starhawk, Nikki)?

    Annhiliuous would be awesome too!!!

    • Dude! It’s like your reading my official handbook of the MARVEL UNIVERSE comics from my long boxes in storage.?

  6. How about some Age of Apocolypse figures too? Sunfire? Holocaust? Blink? Wildchild? Or what about the rest of Alpha Flight? Shaman? Marina? Snowbird? Sasquatch?

  7. LOCKJAW and Triton!!!! Way to go, Hasbro! Now finish the Inhumans please. I have to admit,, I never thought they would finish the original Sinister Six, even, but they did. I’m in.

    • Me too! However, the old Tml BAF MODOK works well at the 1/18th scale.
(He is supposed to have a monster sized head)?lol
That’s the substitute I’ve used surrounded by AIM troops,Red Skull &Hydra…
I’m so used to it,that by the time they make a MU3.75″ MODOK,I’d probably leave it in package for display diorama.??

  8. Triton? Triton? TRITON???? Tears are running down my face as I type this…thank you, Hasbro. Thank you! **sniff**

    NOW MAKE STINGRAY

    • Sure. What body though? Methinks either the Apocalypse or Juggernaut bodymoulds would work.??

  9. Marvel Universe/Infinite figures that need to be made ASAP: 1. Terrax 2. Mimic (Exiles version) 3. Black Panther (Marvel Knights) 4. Cable ( in his blue and yellow costume that he wore in the Marvel vs Capcom 2 game. 5. Night Thrasher (Dwayne Taylor version) 6. Stryfe 7. Vulcan 8. Cannonball 9. Marvel Girl (Rachael Grey 10. 13. What about… Snowbird, Marrina, Shaman, Shasquat,… and Cap Marvel (Mónica), Wonderman red jacket, Force (Ironman),High Evolutioner, Tigra, Yellow Jaw, nightrauser…

  14. I am so stoked to see Rage!! I am still holding out hopes for a ” scale Sasquatch and classic Wendigo….PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!bb

  15. Nate Greg in shaman costume and a legion. And one apocalypse, the way he looked in the origin comic.

  16. they lack on xmen characters heavy like cannonball, sunspot, forge, magik, karma etc !!!!!! >=(
