2019 Marvel Legends Captain Marvel Genis & Hercules Figures!

Before closing the book on SDCC 2018 Marvel Legends coverage, there’s two more new figures that I need to talk about that didn’t logically fit with any of the other waves that have been discussed. Neither is a character that hasn’t been covered before by ML in some form, but I think fans will be in agreement that these are better renditions of these characters. Coming our way in the Avengers & Captain Marvel Marvel Legends waves next year: Hercules & Genis-Vell!

Marvel Legends 2019 Hercules and Genis Captain Marvel Figures

While some collectors were disappointed in the number of new Marvel Legends reveals that Hasbro made at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, I think the number of figures premiering would be considered pretty spectacular for any other toy line.

Perhaps what actually had fans a little disappointed, however, was the lack of Avengers figures being shown. Sad but true: we are likely many months away from Hasbro being able to show off any Avengers 4 or Captain Marvel movie figures—meaning that there isn’t a whole lot from the early 2019 Marvel Legends Avengers wave(s) that Hasbro can show.

While Hasbro did release a Marvel Legends Hercules figure in their very first set of 6” ML back in 2007, I’ve never been fully satisfied with the quality or scrawny look of that Herc.

2019 Avengers Marvel Legends Hercules FigureBut this time out, Hasbro is granting a Lion of Olympus that’s ripped, manly, and ready to lay the smackdown with a giant sword and axe! This is a straight-up superb Hercules, and it definitely has me itching for a Totally Awesome Hulk Amadeus Cho figure to hang out with him.

Genis-Vell Captain Marvel Marvel Legends 2019 Figure Close-UpMeanwhile, a long-dead fan-favorite Captain Marvel also reappears in this wave: a new Marvel Legends Genis-Vell Captain Marvel! Peter David’s Captain Marvel comic book series starring Genis was one of my absolute favorite comics as a college kid, filled with events that really blew my young mind.

We’ve had a Marvel Legends Genis-Vell before from Toybiz (as a chase variant), but this is the first time we’re getting Genis in his Kree uniform (from when he’s, you know—totally insane). This is an off-the-wall and inspired choice for a figure to release in a year with a movie starring a different version of the titular character. Mad props!

Marvel Legends 2019 Captain Marvel Genis-Vell Kree FigureBoth the 2019 Marvel Legends Hercules and Genis Captain Marvel Figures should go up for order in early 2019, with the remaining lineup of non-movie figures accompanying them expected to be announced before the end of the year (New York Comic-Con, anyone?). I’ll post updates here and to the Marvel Toy News Facebook/Twitter/Instragram once more information regarding the series is available, as well as when pre-orders open up.

What do you think of the first two figures revealed for next year’s Marvel Legends movie wave(s)? What comic-based characters would you like to see Hasbro choose to fill out those series, and what movie figures (besides Brie Larson Captain Marvel) are you hoping to see accompany them?

2019 Marvel Legends Captain Marvel Genis & Hercules Figures! — 8 Comments

  1. I love the look of that Herc. Doesn’t really fit anywhere in my displays, but I’ll get it anyways.

Genis does fit in my displays, with every other Captain Marvel toy I have, but I’m not impressed with these early pics. The Marvel Select chase variant from years ago looks better, and I just don’t see the “why” of it. I’d rather a new classic costume figure of him to accompany Songbird in an Avengers Forever or Thunderbolts team, or even a ’90s “Legacy” costume version of the character. One of my all-time favorite characters, but sadly, not the figure I want of him.

  2. I would really welcome a new Hercules figure to replace the old one, butI’m not that impreesed with what the photo displayed reveals. Too much spacings between the arm and leg joints really takes away quite a lot from this otherwise nice figure.

  3. I love that other forums and facebook have a lot of people saying they don’t want the Hercules figure…BECAUSE I AM THE MOST HAPPY AND WILL BE HUNTING HIM DOWN LIKE A DOG! I think he looks amazing and I can’t wait!

  4. They really knocked it clear out of the park with that Hercules.
If the final figure looks as good as the black background shot, that’ll be one of the best Marvel Legends…..maybe ever?
If it’s as good as the white background shot, it’ll still be pretty damn awesome.

Just gotta fix that weird gap in his thigh…
Hopefully it just wasn’t pegged all the way together for some reason.

  5. Genis-Vell looks….eh. Not a fan of how the glittery plastic and glittery translucent stuff look together.
I think maybe pure translucent black with white stars speckled on the outside as paint, and then just a metallic green would’ve looked a LOT cleaner and better.
    This looks unfortunately…..messy.
    Not cohesive.
Almost like they managed to make real life low resolution.
It’s kinda hard to look at it and get a clean read on what you’re looking at.

Maybe it’s different in person, and with different lighting.
But I’d LOVE to have a figure of this version of Genis-Vell. Badass design.
Ironically, I’d maybe have to get 2 so that I can repaint one of them.

  6. These are great the Hercules is light years better then previous release. Select did several versions of Genis. I was hoping wr get the Kree Sentary and you confirmed that from thd Mexico con.

  7. Haha, they gave this Herc the smug, I know you want to do me, face. Not for battle displays, but for picking up super heroines at the bar displays.
