When you collect a line for as long as I’ve been collecting Bowen Designs Marvel sculptures, you come to frequently expect to see some familiar faces redone. Such is the case with the October 2013 Bowen statues that have just gone up for order, as both statues are of characters that we’ve seen multiple times before in the Bowen Marvel Statues line. One of the characters has appeared twice before from Bowen and the other a near-uncountable number of times–it’s the Bowen Designs Green Goblin Museum Statue and Astonishing X-Men Wolverine Statues!
You would think by now Bowen Designs would be all Wolverined out and there wouldn’t be a whole lot left to do that’s new and interesting–and you’d be wrong. This is the first time Bowen is doing Wolverine in his Astonishing X-Men costume, and he looks exquisite. Digital sculptor Sam Greenwell did a real knockout job with this Wolverine statue, from the tough guy pose to the intimidating scowl. I don’t know if this 12″ Astonishing Wolverine is my favorite of the many, many Bowen Wolverine Statues, but it’s certainly high on the list.
Meanwhile, this is the third Bowen Designs Green Goblin full-size statue, but only the first one to be in a Museum pose. That’s right, Bowen made two previous Green Goblin statues (one in 2001 by Thomas Kuntz and one in 2006 by the great Eric Sosa) and both of them were action pose interpretations of the Green Goblin on his Goblin Glider. Now, I like the Goblin Glider as much as the next guy, but I think there’s something said for the main attraction and focal point of a high-end collectible statue being the character himself and not his mode of transportation.
Getting this 13.5″ Bowen Green Goblin Museum Pose statue is a big win for Spider-Man fans and Museum Pose collectors. The Kucharek Brothers did a super job with this Green Goblin statue, making it easily the best-looking Bowen Designs Green Goblin sculpt–and this time, there’s no action-packed Goblin Glider around to distract from ol’ Norman Osborn himself.
Both the Bowen Designs Astonishing Wolverine statue and Green Goblin Museum Pose statue are up for pre-order now, with an expected arrival date in October 2013. These are Bowen products, though, which are rarely punctual, so take those dates with a grain of salt and feel free to take your time finding a display space for the statues–it may be a while before they arrive.
