The moment LEGO haplessly revealed that Scott Lang would be appearing as Giant-Man in this summer’s sure-fire blockbuster Captain America Civil War movie, collectors began drooling at the prospect of a huge Hot Toys Giant-Man figure! And today, Hot Toys finally announced a Giant-Man… but it’s not exactly the sixth scale version collectors had in mind! The oversized Hot Toys Civil War Giant-Man & Ant-Man Cosbaby figure set has now been revealed!
But while this might look like a Funko POP Vinyl, sharp-eyed collectors will recognize this Giant-Man for what it actually is: the largest addition ever to the super-deformed Hot Toys Cosbaby figures lineup!
Whereas your typical Hot Toys Cosbaby figures stand 3.75″ tall, the Giant-Man Cosbaby is nearly triple that size, standing over 9″ tall (23 cm)! Unlike the 6″ Funko Giant-Man which is only 50% bigger than the standard POPs, this Cosbaby Giant-Man figure absolutely towers over all of his teammates!
And as an added bonus, Giant-Man won’t be coming alone: he’ll be packaged with an all-new 1.5″ (4 cm) Ant-Man Cosbaby in a running pose! I really dig that Hot Toys is committed to bringing us all of this miniature Ant-Man figures in their various figure lines, and this is definitely one of the cutest!
While I’m not the biggest Cosbaby collector around–I only own a couple of these vinyls, believe it or not–this pair of Cosbaby Civil War Ant-Man and Giant-Man figures just may be the most “fun” and exciting addition to the line ever. I don’t say this often about Cosbabies, but–I want!!
I’ve heard through the grapevine that the cause of this drought may be a licensing issue due to the new line of super-deformed figures Jada Toys has been releasing this year (which, coincidentally, includes similarly-styled figures from “Deadpool”, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Captain America: Civil War”), but whether that’s the reason or not, the days of Cosbabies being available for U.S. collectors may be over.
The Hot Toys Cosbaby Giant-Man & Ant-Man figures set will be available through Sideshow Collectibles in the near future if Sideshow is able to distribute the line in the United States. I don’t have much hope that they will be able to, but I’ll post an update when and if it turns out the Civil War Cosbabies–including Giant-Man–can be ordered within the U.S.
What do you think of the Hot Toys Giant-Man Cosbaby? Are you hoping that Sideshow Collectibles will begin selling vinyl Cosbabies again in the United States, or are you satisfied with the variety of Marvel vinyl figures currently available domestically?
