It’s a good thing no one ever gets tired of Iron Man merchandise (right?), because like most of the Marvel collectibles being revealed this month, the next Kotobukiya ArtFX statue comes straight out of the upcoming “Iron Man 3” movie! No, it’s not another Tony Stark Iron Man armor–this time, it’s Jim Rhodes in the suit! It’s the Iron Man 3 War Machine ArtFX Statue…

Given the prior success of past Iron Man movie statues by Kotobukiya, it was a no-brainer for them to release more Iron Man 1/6 scale ArtFX statues to celebrate the opening of Iron Man 3. What’s a little unexpected, though, is that one of those statues is none other than War Machine! With the huge amount of media and merchandising focus on the Iron Patriot armor, I assumed that we’d get that James Rhodes armor (if any of him) in the Kotobukiya line. I’m thrilled it’s the plain old grey and silver War Machine armor that Kotobukiya chose for this statue, however–I really don’t like the garrish patriotic color-scheme of the Iron Patriot all that much.

This War Machine Iron Man 3 ArtFX Statue is in the sixth-scale, meaning that it’s the same scale as the Hot Toys Iron Man 3 and Avengers figures. It’s not exactly the same style as those figures (at all), but if you need a War Machine for your display, he’ll at least match somewhat as he is in the proper scale. And at the super-low price of just over $100, this statue is a lot cheaper than you can buy most Hot Toys figures or other high-end War Machine statues for today.

I like the way that the steel debris has been used as a stylized base for War Machine to attach to, enabling him to “fly” without having an obvious pole or clear plastic stand. The War Machine statue itself is about 15″ tall, but when attached to the base, the complete ArtFX Iron Man 3 War Machine statue is over 17.5″ tall! Not bad at all for just a hundred bucks!

War Machine is scheduled to arrive in September/October 2013. The Kotobukiya Iron Man 3 War Machine ArtFX statue (as well as the Iron Man Mark VII and Iron Man Mark XLII statues) is currently available for pre-order. The previous Iron Man movie ArtFX statues are some of the most expensive Kotobukiya statues on the secondary market, so make sure you order your War Machine statue before the piece sells out if you want it.
