Doctor Octopus has appeared more times in LEGO minifigure form than any other LEGO Marvel villain. So you would probably think that with there being five previous LEGO Doc Ock minifigure releases, at least one of those would have been a classic comic-inspired Doctor Octopus figure. Nope! Every single one of those LEGO Doctor Octopus (Octopi?) figures has been based on the Spider-Man 2 movie or Ultimate Spider-Man. But the classic Doctor Octopus LEGO minifigure we’ve all been dreaming of will finally arrive in 2014, as part of LEGO Marvel Doc Ock’s Truck Heist 76015!
That said, that is easily my favorite of the half-dozen LEGO Doc Ock minifigures that have ever been released. The printed-on lab coat and glasses, the dual angry/grinning expressions (Doc Ock has an alternate expression printed on the back of his head), the classic green-and-yellow outfit–this is exactly the Doctor Octopus LEGO figure I’ve ever been waiting for. And thankfully, he comes with the same great articulated LEGO mechanical arms that we’ve become accustomed to on the past iterations of LEGO Spider-Man Doctor Octopus figures.
As for the rest of the set, well–Is there any criminal motivation more pure and clear-cut than stealing money? LEGO Marvel Doc Ock’s Truck Heist is built around the concept of Doctor Octopus’ plot to rob an armored truck.
The LEGO Truck Driver and Spider-Man minifigures are pretty generic, but the armored truck itself looks to be a lot more interesting than you’d think. I’m really looking forward to seeing more photos and getting a better idea of how the “exploding” action of the roof of the armored truck works.
The 76015 LEGO Doc Ock’s Truck Heist set is part of the winter 2014 LEGO Marvel sets wave, and will be released in February/March 2014. I’ll update with the piece count, price and exact release date once LEGO makes those details available.
