Marvel Animated Cyclops & Nendoroid Iron Man Mark 50!

While it remains all quiet on the mass-release Hasbro toys front this week (don’t worry, I’ll start a new series of Legends reviews this week), we have gotten a couple of new items solicited this week—in the chibi style! Not only does Gentle Giant have their latest Skottie Young-styled Marvel Animated Statue up for order in Cyclops, but Good Smile Company has a rare MCU addition to their Nendoroid line: Infinity War Iron Man Mark 50!

Marvel Animated Cyclops Statue and Nendoroid Infinity War Iron Man

I don’t exactly keep it on the down low that I’m wild about the Gentle Giant Marvel Animated statues series by Skottie Young, which is the one and only statue line that I’ve ever been a 100% completist in collecting. Small, space-saving mini-statues at an affordable price? Deal me in!

I was excited to see Marvel Animated Storm and Cyclops debut at SDCC 2018 in July, and it looks like Cyke is officially going to be the second of the X-Men to join the line (after the previously-solicited Wolverine).

Gentle Giant Cyclops Animated StatueAs you might expect, this is a picture-perfect recreation of Cyclops as he appeared on the Skottie Young variant cover of Giant Size Little Marvel AvX #1. Scott Summers is totally adorable with his blank expression and pot-bellied chubby little body!

Back of Skottie Young Cyclops Statue Marvel BabiesI half-wish that Gentle Giant Ltd. had chosen to go with the more dynamic posed Cyke with optic blast effect and fierce expression, but I think ultimately this is the pose that’ll fit in best on the shelf with the rest of the series. I wouldn’t mind revisiting some of these characters down the road in action poses at all, though!

Gentle Giant Marvel Animated Cyclops Figure Side ViewLike all single figures in this series, Cyclops is priced at $64.99 MSRP. For a unique-sculpted, limited edition resin mini-statue in this day and age, I’ve got no complaints with that price as long as Gentle Giant keeps the quality high (which they have been!).

Iron Man Nendoroid Infinity Edition Mark 50While Funko and Hot Toys create a whole universe worth of low-priced figures for every MCU movie—often including every single major cast member— Good Smile Company tends to be a lot more conservative in what they release in their $40-$50 Nendoroid series.

Typically we only get 2-3 Nendoroids released for any movie—and following the solicitations for Infinity War Black Panther and Captain America, the third figure for Avengers 3 is (predictably) Iron Man Mark L!

Infinity War Nendoroid Iron Man Figure with Tony Stark Head Faceplate OpenI used to be a Marvel Nendoroid completist, but when they started revisiting the same couple characters over and over again, I quickly grew out of that phase. But even though I already have my fair share of Iron Man Nendoroids, I don’t think I can pass up this latest version!

Back of Infinity Edition Nendoroid Iron Man Mark L FigureThe Nendoroid Iron Man Mark 50 Infinity Edition is exactly what you would expect from the line, base figure-wise. If you’ve seen one Iron Man Nendo, you’ve seen them all, right…?

Nendoroid Iron Man Mark 50 Infinity War Figure with Arm CannonBut this one’s actually got a little twist! Just like the in the Avengers Infinity War movie, Iron Man comes with interchangeable arms and removable wings. I’m a total mark for toys of Iron Man with the blaster arm, and the wings and repulsor effects mesh perfectly to make this easily the funnest Iron Man Good Smile Company has done to date.

Iron Man Mark L Nendoroid Infinity War EditionI’m not exactly in love with the $59.99 price-point this figure is carrying in the United States—about 10 bucks higher than your typical MCU Nendoroid—but with the various extra bonus parts this figure comes with, I can deal with the inflated price as a justified one-off.

Full Series of Marvel Babies Statues Gentle Giant Ltd Through CyclopsThe GSC Infinity War Nendoroid Iron Man Mark L is now up for order, and is scheduled to be released in January/February 2019. A bit too late for Christmas, but not a bad way for Nendo collectors to kick off the new year! The Cyclops Animated statue is only available directly on the Gentle Giant website thus far, but should follow on other retailers’ sites in the next few days. Cyclops also ships in Q1 2019.

Any excitement for this latest pair of chibi-styled mid-priced figures? I’m still fully on-board with the Skottie Young Marvel Babies statues that Gentle Giant is putting out, but am I alone in still being all-in for the line? Meanwhile, who out there is collecting Nendoroids, and are you happy with the characters Good Smile Company keeps choosing to revisit?

  1. I love the Cyclops, and love the whole Scottie Young series in general, but there’s no way I can afford it. I really don’t know why the Scottie Young series needed to be done in resin. There are no details in the artwork that warrant it being done in resin. The series could have easily been a $10 a piece Funkopop type of statues and that’d mean I can afford to collect it!
