Marvel Legends Frankie Raye Nova Figure Revealed! HasLab Galactus Stretch Goal!

With less than 28 days to go in the HasLab Marvel Legends Galactus campaign, the project is currently sitting at 10,404 backers–about 74.3% of the 14,000 minimum–met. In isolation, that’s a fantastically (pardon the pun) encouraging number for the World Devourer. But when you take into consideration that the vast majority of those sales are from the first day and most days since have had less than 100 backers, those numbers are a little worrisome. And that may be why, even though Galactus himself hasn’t been backed yet, Hasbro decided to drop the curtain and reveal the first stretch goal yesterday: the first-ever Marvel Legends Frankie Raye Nova figure!

Marvel Legends Frankie Raye Nova Figure HasLab Galactus Exclusive Revealed

The Marvel Legends Galactus HasLab campaign ends at midnight EST on August 30th. This isn’t a hoax or an imaginary tale–if you want this Galactus (presuming it gets backed) and any of the stretch goals (presuming any of those get backed), you need to make sure that you place an order prior to the campaign ending. Hasbro says that these HasLab projects won’t ever be available for purchase again, and I believe them.

Of course, getting anything at all shown during this campaign is all contingent upon getting at least the bare minimum number of backers (14,000), which will actually not be met if things continue on at the present rate of under 100 backers per day. And so, Hasbro decided to sweeten the deal by showing the first all-new figure that will be unlocked by reaching 16,000 backers: Marvel Legends Nova Frankie Raye!

Origin of Frankie Raye Nova as Herald of Galactus Fantastic Four Comic Book Page

So! Let’s talk about Nova (Frankie Raye), a character that I had legit no clue who the heck she was until Toybiz released a stunning vac-metallized figure of her back in the 90s. While Frankie Raye hasn’t been seen around the Marvel Comics universe in nearly as prominent a role as some characters like Terrax or Firelord (largely due to her being dead for decades), she’s actually a classic 1970’s character that has quite a fan base.

Silver Surfer and Frankie Raye Nova Comic Book Page

The daughter of the man who created the original Human Torch android, Frankie Raye is an Earth woman who became a Herald of Galactus to save Earth, but turned out to be a pretty mediocre herald due to her compassion and empathy for other worlds and their beings. She went on to become a close friend of Silver Surfer before being killed.

While I wouldn’t say that this Herald of Galactus Nova is a headliner AAA character or anything, she’s had an okay amount of merchandise released over the years, including a Marvel Minimates figure, a Bowen Designs mini bust (including a super rare gold chrome version), a vac-metallized Toybiz action figure and even a proximity piece statue included with the Sideshow Silver Surfer Exclusive Maquette shipping right now.

But this would be Frankie Raye’s first official Marvel Legends 6″ figure (assuming another nearly 6,000 backers turn up in the next 27 days), and it is a real beauty. The metallic gold paint and translucent orange and yellow gradient hair look killer, and I am pumped to see that Hasbro is using the new female double-hinged elbows and swivel biceps arms with the pin-less technology for this figure. This looks excellent and I really, really hope it gets made (hopefully with an Aunt May Golden Oldie alternate head!!).

HasLab Galactus 27 Days to Go Backers Marvel Legends

As of right now, I am not feeling overly optimistic, however. After announcing his stretch goal Frankie Raye Legends figure approximately 24 hours ago, the number of backers has grown from around 10,340 to… 10,418. That’s less than 80 backers, when 3,582 are needed in the next 27 days just to fund Galactus–and 5,582 more to unlock this ML Nova.

With what looks like a variant of Silver Surfer as the second unlockable that can be used to drive sales (something like Firelord likely would have been better), I am only 50/50 on whether we’ll even reach 16K. Presumably BigBadToyStore will still be placing a big order for stock to sell on their website, which should help elevate numbers somewhat. Let’s hope for the best.

HasLab Galactus Frankie Raye Nova Marvel Legends Stretch Goal Figure 16000 Backers

I’ll continue to follow this campaign closely and post updates here and on the Marvel Toy News Twitter and Facebook Page as more stretch goal figures are announced and as we approach the end of the crowdfunding window, so stay tuned.

What do you think of the very first Galactus stretch goal, Marvel Legends collectors? Is Frankie Raye a good “carrot” to get the backers flowing in, or should Hasbro have picked another of the Heralds of Galactus–or something else entirely–to try to give this project a boost? And with what appears to be a Silver Surfer variant riding in as the next stretch goal after Nova–what could Hasbro do with a new Norrin that would really get you hyped to support $400 Galactus?

Marvel Legends Frankie Raye Nova Figure Revealed! HasLab Galactus Stretch Goal! — 16 Comments

  1. She is stunning, but BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO for putting her behind such a paywall.
Here’s hping she’s released as a deluxe later with an appropirate flame-hair base and other exras.

  2. If Hasbro really wanted to sweeten the pot, they should of given us Nova at 14,000, unless there some creative tinkering with the numbers, can’t even see reaching 14,000, but they could always increase the deadline.

    • I agree 100%. I put in my order right at the beginning but now I’m not sure they’ll reach the 14k needed. Unfortunately that Frankie figure at 16k is something we’ll probably never see.

    • I agree. I think it would be more effective if Hasbro be upfront at the get go on what the unlockables are at each level rather than keeping us in the dark.

  3. I found out that for last year’s Sentinel they didn’t hit the end goal/stretch goal until the last day when over 4k more people suddenly signed up for it.

This will get made, remember it’s not like Hasbro needed to afford to do a Kickstarter it is a billion dollar company.

  4. I agree, I think the 14k limit was a little to high for the base limit. I’m in for 2 one for myself and a friend. I hope it goes through, but I’m having my doubts on it reaching the 14k, much less any add on goal at all sadly.

  5. I was on the fence. Now I’m… starting to slip off the fence. I think I’ll probably hit the grass on the other side of the fence in the next couple of days. I LOOOVE me some Byrne Fantastic Four and Nova in particular.

    • Haha I hear you! I’ve ‘ordered’ one and seeing Nova takes me back to those Byrne days.

  6. I emailed at launch time Hasbro and was even like 14K? Really? Yeah I don’t think it will make it at all. I really want this, but the cost point vs backer total is ridiculous. 8k-10k? Yeah realistic, 14k+ even to get a addon? No. I think Hasbro is going to miss the mark on this one by a long shot for being to overreaching and greedy.

    • Same here, I emailed them about the 14k limit which I thought was rather ridiculous since the Sentinel was what? Like 6k I think? I don’t see this happening as sad as it makes me to say it. I would loooove to have this figure, but I think Hasbro has set the limit far too high for it to ever come true, much less ever get any extras. Oh and no I never received a reply on my 14k limit either from them lol.

  7. I think Galactus is coming out too soon after the Sentinel campaign ended. It hurts the wallet too much to invest in a second mega-sized figure already. With so much ML product released over the last year this is the one that has to be passed on for me. I still have my 19″ Galactus from ten years ago and that’ll have to do.

  8. I have a feeling Hasbro won’t get the 14K to back Galactus. The chaos monster in me kinda hopes they don’t get there, either. It would send a big “F U” to Hasbro

  9. Are you kidding me? These are the ‘add-ons’? 2 figures that required NO extra work except for Nova’s head sculpt and some shiny paint for both figures. The Surfer will be the same one we’ve gotten twice now but shiny. Lame, lame lame. Especially for $400 clams. Just a blatant money grab by Hasbro at this point. I was also on the fence, but I am easily climbing back off now.

  10. First off let me say that I have backed this and, despite being overwhelmingly annoyed by Hasbro and the Legends team for how they’ve handled this and other recent issues with the line (distribution, store exclusives, quality control problems), I would be content getting just Galactus because the figure looks really nice and would be a kick-ass display piece. That said, it’s over-priced without any add-ons. And it seems highly unlikely with the way they set up the tiers that we will get Frankie or any other planned bonuses.

I think that the 14,000 was too high of a backer goal.

I think that 2,000+ for tier bonus unlocks is far too much.

I think the assumption that the campaign would follow the Sentinels was just plain ignorance:
    – X-Men is far more popular than the FF or cosmic/space characters
    – Sentinels have army building potential – Galactus just does not, no matter what the team would try to get you to believe during the live streams
    – People had stimulus money and were more optimistic about the potential for things to get better as they relate to COVID and economic opportunity at this time last year, whereas people are more uncertain now and there’s no promise of government money on the horizon

If the team is really about the fans, really wants this made, and really wants to wow their supporters, they will go back to the boardroom and throw in the two bonus unlocks at the 14,000 mark. If you make those part of the initial package then you will see the surge in collectors pledging. You may even sway momentum enough to unlock the other two tiers at 16,000 and 18,000.

Anything less will probably fail or just squeak thru the initial goal.

    • Just hit 17900 so we likely are hitting at least ONE more goal. though I expect we could very well hit them all at the rate we have jumped up again
