Marvel Legends Thing & Silver Surfer Figures Packaged Photos!

UPDATE 8/9/2018: Norrin has taken his dear, sweet time in doing so, but the Herald of Galactus has finally surfed into the United States: the 6″ Marvel Legends Silver Surfer exclusive figure is available now on the Walgreens website while supplies last! Hop on over if you’re one of the many collectors who have been waiting for the best 6″ Silver Surfer action figure ever!

Walgreens Exclusive Silver Surfer Marvel Legends 6 Inch FigureORIGINAL 4/11/2018: It’s been a long time since the Walgreens Exclusive Marvel Legends Fantastic Four 6” Figures were first announced back in 2016, but at long last, Clobberin’ Time is almost here! After the Walgreens Silver Surfer Marvel Legends figure began appearing on eBay and outside the U.S. a few weeks back, today Hasbro finally posted hi-res official photos of the Silver Surfer on the Hasbro Pulse Instagram. And Norrin didn’t come alone–official hi-res photos of the Walgreens Exclusive Thing Marvel Legends figure were revealed as well!

Walgreens Exclusive Marvel Legends The Thing and Silver Surfer 6" Figures

As soon as Hasbro announced that we’d be getting new 6” Marvel Legends Fantastic Four Figures exclusive to Walgreens Stores, it was pretty easy to guess which of the foursome we’d be waiting the longest for.

Because of the need for basically all-new tooling to make him, we were going to have to wait a while for Mama Grimm’s favorite blue-eyed boy. And wait we have. But at New York Toy Fair 2018, we got our first look at the new Ben Grimm figure, and now we’re getting to see him packaged in advance of his impending arrival at Walgreens!

Marvel Legends Thing Packaged Photo Walgreens ExclusiveSimply put, this is the best action figure of The Thing that I’ve ever seen. The proportions look dead-on, the size is massive for a single-packed figure, and I love the options of scowling/teeth gritting heads and grabbing hands/fists.

Marvel Legends The Thing Walgreens Exclusive 6 Inch FigureHasbro is doing us a solid by not making this huge Thing Marvel Legends a Build-A-Figure, so bravo to the big H for their generosity with this guy.

That said, I think Hasbro is sure to get at least one more use from this mold. Now that this “rock body” tooling exists, I think it’s only a matter of time until we see it repurposed for a 6” Marvel Legends Korg figure (almost certainly comics-based and not based off of the Thor Ragnarok movie appearance of the character).

Marvel Legends Silver Surfer Figure Packaged

Of course, the new Marvel Legends Thing Figure isn’t the next ML figure we expect to see turn up at domestic Walgreens stores—that honor belongs to the new Marvel Legends Silver Surfer figure.

While he’s only got one head (Norrin Radd isn’t exactly the most expressive guy around), we get a surfboard (of course), three pairs of interchangeable hands and translucent yellow effects pieces with comic glitter with the new Silver Surfer. This ought to scratch the itch nicely for anyone still needed Galactus’ favorite herald on their shelf!

Walgreens Exclusive Silver Surfer Marvel Legends FigureThe Silver Surfer Marvel Legends figure popped up on eBay after appearing in Mexico last month, but I haven’t heard any reports of him being spotted in the United States yet. I would expect to see him arrive in Q2 2018 in US stores, with the Marvel Legends The Thing Figure hitting soon after. I’ll post updates to our social media once these actually start being spotted in stores.

Are you aiming to pick up either or both of these Marvel mainstays when their new 6” Legends figures hit retail stores, Marvel collectors? Or are you satisfied with the past versions of the Thing and the Silver Surfer that you may already own?

Marvel Legends Thing & Silver Surfer Figures Packaged Photos!  — 71 Comments

  1. Oh sweet fuck yeah!!!!! Loving the hell out of the new Thing figure. He really is THE definitive version going forward for me, much the same way the new Sue and Reed figures are. Well-done Hasbro, well-done.

  2. Man, every time I narrow my wish list down to 3 or 4 more figures, they get me with one I didn’t even know I wanted.

    Or two.

    Or five.

    Dammit.

  3. I already have a Thing figure in my collection, but I just have to get this one to replace it. It is absolutely the best Ben Grimm figure to date.

  4. Marvel-Two-in-One anyone? Best thing ever. Paint apps are wow on both especially Thing. Anyone know if Select have ever done a Thing.

  5. I’d like to get a version that’s the lumpy orange original version of the Thing someday. Keep that mold warm.

    • usually you can order them online from walgreens at some point. i got human torch that way since i was too impatient for him to show up at my local WG

  6. Can someone explain why The Thing appears to have only 4 fingers in each hand as well as no more than 4 toes in each foot? Is it the angle? The additional hands clearly shows only 4 fingers.

    • because that’s how many fingers and toes the Thing has. Those cosmic rays are tricky little buggers when it comes to anatomy

    • This is comic accurate. The Thing only has 4 fingers and toes in almost every appearance I can think of including most of the major figures that have ever been released.

Why did his transformation into the Thing cause the loss of those digits…?
You’d have to check with Kirby and Lee on that one lol

      • Thanks for the info. I have previous versions of The Thing, and in fact some old FF comics, but I never paid close attention to the number of digits until now because it was so obvious. I googled it and came across some interesting articles why non-human animation characters (or non-human looking characters like The Thing) have four fingers. The general explanation is it was easier to draw while saving a bit of time (and money). I came across an article about The Hulk’s toes which varied from 3 to 5 depending on the artist or issue, or even within an issue!

        • Its amazing to catch the little discrepancies in character design – particularly in the early days of Marvel heroes. When my dad was making customs back in the age of 5″ ToyBiz figures I remember how frustrated he would get when looking for reference photos because there were so many inconsistencies. Like you said, it wasn’t even necessarily issue to issue – sometimes it was panel to panel!

Another interesting thing along those lines is color choice. Certain characters ended up with their classic looks simply due to the cost of ink lol

  7. Sometimes I think ‘nah, I don’t need that character, Toy Biz did them ages a go.’ Or ‘didn’t hasbro already make that one when the license changed hands.’

Then I look back at those figures and they really don’t compare to the quality and consistency we are getting now.

    It’s just so expensive. lol

  8. The team will soon be complete! Love the Silver Surfer too!

    So, downfield……….Doctor Doom, maybe???

    • Fyi, Hasbro did come out with a ML Dr. Doom under the Epic Heroes series back in late 2012.

  9. Hey Dabib – I know you’ve complained in a previous article about the overuse of the same special effects, but I think it’s gotten into your subconscious mind that you even describe the Silver Surfer’s special effects as “comic glitter”, tho I know you probably meant “cosmic glitter”. 🙂

  10. I didn’t even know Mister Fantastic was out already. I guess I’m behind lol. Went ahead and picked him up today.

Anyway, both of these figures look amazing, but Ben is the one I’m most excited about. The Thing has been one of my favorite characters for a long time, and I’m so glad Hasbro is bringing out a fantastic (excuse the pun) figure of him.

    • Not only that it’s a fantastic figure, it comes with the Ultimate Nullifer! I have a giddy feeling that we will see a ML Watcher in the near future. All the ML collectors would be going nuts! 🙂

      • We need a ML Watcher unless MS gets their shit together and rereleases the MS Watcher.

They’ve been rereleasing a lot of old MS figures lately, and Watcher is expensive AF., so….*fingers crossed*

        • If Hasbro ever releases a Watcher, I hope it would look more like the one in FF issue 48.

  11. In am definitely getting the new silver surfer. I love my marvel select thing but am very tempted to get this one. I really like my old one but it has pretty bad articulation, and the new one has to quote Dabid the “marvel legends articulation”.

  12. Thing looks awesome. It looks like I may finally be able to retire the old FF Classics Thing from my display!

  13. My collection is huge and these 2 are a must have.I am an adult know and the figures just keep getting better, totally stoked for these 2.

  14. I’m hoping they continue this line with more Inhumans! I’d love to see Karnak, Triton, Crystal and Gorgon!

  15. Just picked mine Surfer figure up off Walgreens.com It’s a drag to pay for shipping but at least I won’t spend hours running going store to store…

  16. I was so desperate to get both of these I ordered them on eBay back in June. I do not regret it as they are both spectacular figures.

  17. Thanks for the heads up. Going to check a store that ss is in stock on my way home

  18. Having picked up both figures here in Canada a couple of weeks ago, I have to say these guys do not disappoint. Ben Grimm, especially, is a thing (no pun intended) of beauty. The sculpt and proportions are spot on, and I love the open hands – so expressive! And the figure has a hefty weight to it that makes it feel very solid. No it doesn’t have biceps swivels, but you won’t miss them.

Silver Surfer is just a plain Sunfire body. He looks okay but nothing too exciting, however the butterfly shoulder joints do give him the ability to adopt very convincing Kirby poses, which is a big plus. The big downside is the surfboard: it only has a single peg, which makes it tricky to keep the figure properly balanced on the board. I hang my Surfer on the wall and it’s tough to keep his other foot flush with the board.

  19. Walgreens online is already sold out. I imagine 60 percent of those sold are about to be for sale again on eBay or through local scalp-er… dealers, I mean. Sigh. Why don’t they just make more of these toys? They are in demand. I’m so tired of feeling like I have to either go on the hunt for a brand new product that should be readily available or pay three times the cost to get it from some jerk that cleared the shelves when they found them in stores. Hey, Hasbro, I’m not feeling much love for your company name. I associate it with frustration.

    • I understand the frustration altho I probably wouldn’t lay the blame at Hasbro’s feet. Like the other big retailers, WG seems to have very uneven distribution where some stores get the newest waves as soon as they come out and others have ancient ML on the shelves that never sell… so naturally people will snap them up the newest figure online as soon as they are available. However, I’m sure WG limits the amount on sale online since the goal of an exclusive is to get people into the brick-and-mortar stores. They want us to hunt.

Scalpers are a big problem, wish there was a solution. Seems weird that release dates for things like DVDs are standardized across the U.S. , as there is a recognition that demand for the product is time-sensitive… yet retailers haven’t realized that ML releases are fairly time-sensitive too… the retailer (B & M or online) that gets the newest waves on shelves first is most likely to sell them, while those that don’t miss the rush and end up with tons of the waves’ pegwarmers sitting, gathering dust… Then the cycle starts all over again.

      • Yeah, but my complaint wasn’t exclusive (see what I did there) to Walgreens. Peg warmers do tend to hang around from time to time, but at least where I live, even stores like Target or Walmart just have empty pegs. The cases come in, some dude checks every day for shipments and buys them all up to sell online, and then no one else ever sees on in the wild. Except peg warmers like most of the Doctor Strange wave. I have never seen an Apocalypse baf wave figure except the orders I bought online. I’ve never seen a single Sasquatch baf wave figure except the orders I bought online. From the Warlock baf wave, I’ve only ever seen Dazzler and Polaris. Even Iceman was never to be found. There’s just not enough cases being sent out into the stores to begin with. Scalpers cry supply and demand, and they are partly right. I mean, they are the ones hurting the demand side of it by swiping the shelves clean, but that could be helped considerably by adding more supply. And it makes no sense to me because Hasbro doesn’t get a slice of the after market pie. They only get their retail price. They should want to sell more of them. It’s only the scalpers that are getting the 40-60 bucks a figure price.

  20. Thank you for the heads up, orders two one for my brother who is a super fan of silver surfer and me. Better figure goes with mg Galactus.

  21. I’m calling it now. New Mutants are going to take over the Walgreens exclusive releases…

Magik is first, soon to be followed by Moonstar. Their absence at every SDCC has been very telling.

      • i ordered mine on 8/10. I got a message from Walgreens that my order was being cancelled on 8/17. Sucks big time! I hope you were able to get yours.

  22. So when is Walgreens going to offer the Thing for sale on their site? I’ve checked many stores here on the East Coast and come up empty. It seems like Hasbro would pick a more consistent retailer besides Walgreens. Frustrating!

  23. When is Walgreens going to put up the Thing on their website? I’ve checked many stores on the east coast and come up empty. Why wouldn’t Hasbro use a more reliable retailer instead of Walgreens? Frustrating!

  24. Had to shell out 80$ on Ebay for Surfer because Walgreen figures are impossible to find in Canada. The only store that i found that carries them is EBgames and they don`t always carry them at all their stores. I manages to get sue and johnny storm there but as of yet i`ve never seen Mr.Fantastic and when i asked about pre-ordering Thing they couldn’t`t even find him in their system. The only figure I want after Thing is a Doctor Doom and I just know it`s gonna be another G$?%&?&* Walgreen exclusive.

  25. Ordered was placed 8/10/18 and Walgreens just cancelled it with no explanation, anyone else experience this??

    • Yes! Same thing happened to me. Ordered placed on 8/10, cancelled on 8/17. Sucks big time!

    • Try looking at some of the lower volume Walgreens. That is what I did yesterday and I was able to get the best 3 out of the 5 Silver Surfers they had.

  26. Order was cancelled as well. Counted my lucky star I was able to catch it when it was in stock only for this nonsense with no explanation. Lord knows when this will be back in stock, if it does. Hasbro doesn’t do well overseeing their exclusives.

  27. I have the screen worn full costume of the surfer worn by Doug Jones, and after passing on a few, hopefully to get the thing costume worn in fantastic four, can be seen on line for auction next month, I’m buying these to display,ay with those pieces, they are done beautiful

  28. search google for “walgreens stock checker (zoolert).” Enter this item code = 997005. From there you will see all of the walgreens with inventory. it’s a new product so some of the stores might still have them in the back store room so you might have to ask a manager to go get it. Good luck.
