I’ve had a tough time getting excited about the last couple series of Marvel Minimates figures revealed by Diamond Select Toys. It’s not because they’re not awesome–they are. But seeing most of the upcoming movie-based Marvel Minimates figures first-hand at New York Toy Fair 2014 in February spoiled me, and it’s hard to muster up enthusiasm when something you’ve already seen is unveiled. Thankfully, today I got my chance to be genuinely exuberant about new Minimates for the first time in a couple months, as the previously-unnannounced Marvel Minimates Series 59 All-New X-Men wave is now up for pre-order!

When I first heard that Brian Michael Bendis was bringing the original X-Men into the present-day Marvel Universe I seriously thought that he’d lost his marbles. I really didn’t think that there was any way that this sort of time-travel story could work at all–much less as the premise for an ongoing series.

So it goes without saying that, within a year, I was hooked on the Marvel NOW! All-New X-Men comic book series and dying for toys of the original X-Men in their Marvel NOW costumes. I fully expected that we’d never see these iterations of the characters produced by any company, but it turns out Diamond Select Toys is bringing us these All-New X-Men/Original X-Men Minimates in Fall 2014!

The All-New X-Men Minimates Series 59 set will consist of four two-packs:

• Marvel Minimates Cyclops & Jean Grey (Marvel Girl)
• Marvel Minimates Angel & Beast (with wicked-cool orange googles)
• Marvel Minimates Iceman & Sentinel
• Marvel Minimates Bobby Drake [Chase Variant] & Sentinel

Considering that Brian Bendis’ All-New X-Men has been one of the most consistently hot books at Marvel for over a year, this set was a masterstroke on the part of Art Asylum/Diamond Select Toys. The icing is that these figures look worlds better to me than the awful Marvel Legends All-New X-Men set that we got earlier this year–and for about a third of the price!

And a new human form Iceman Bobby Drake figure…? Yes, please.

The Marvel Minimates Wave 59 All-New X-Men series of figures is now available for pre-order at the early discount price of $29.99 (regular $39.99). The scheduled release date for the series is October 2014. I want every figure in this set–particularly the ever-elusive Bobby Drake figure–so this is another insta-purchase pre-order for me from Diamond Select Toys.
