After his R-Rated movie hit and was successful beyond most peoples’ wildest dreams, I had little doubt that Deadpool would be the hottest Marvel character of 2016–which means way more Deadpool swag for us all to buy! But while all the expected Deadpool toys like the Marvel Legends and Hot Toys and Funko POPs have appeared, this week a humongous surprise arrived out of nowhere–an 18″ quarter-scale NECA Deadpool figure is now up for order!

I tried desperately to love the long-in-development NECA Hulk figure that was unveiled in painted form at the 2016 New York Toy Fair in February, but that figure–while big in size–is also one of the biggest disappointments in the NECA Marvel figures line.

Thankfully, NECA has redeemed themselves in my eyes by blowing me away with their unexpected next 1/4 Marvel figure: a comics-based Deadpool 18″ figure!

Yes, you heard that right–NECA is finally releasing their first-ever comics-based Marvel figure. While it’s a little out of left field, Disney is not allowing many companies to make Deadpool movie figures. In fact, Hot Toys and Jada toys are the only toy companies that have been approved to make Deadpool movie toys thus far, with every other company’s Wade Wilson offerings being based on the comic books.

Luckily, Deadpool’s movie costume is pretty dang close to his comic book costume, and quite honestly, this Deadpool quarter-scale figure destroys every other NECA Marvel figure I’ve ever seen in sculpting, deco and accessories. Seriously, this is one amazing-looking figure (on top of being the largest Deadpool action figure ever produced).

NECA absolutely nailed Pool’s trademark squinty-face asymmetrical eyes on his mask, and the amount of intricate sculpting detail put into his costume absolutely blows me away. Just look at all the texture on Wade’s costume–!

And the accessories–! The little Deadpool logo on the Uzi and the base of the katana’s blade look phenomenal, as do the hilt details on the katana and knife. Deadpool comes with seven accessories, far more than any Marvel 1/4 figure NECA previously has released: two katanas, a machine gun, an Uzi, a pistol, a knife and a sai.

From the working holsters and sheaths to 30 points of articulation and inclusions of rare weapons like a 1/4th scale sai, NECA went all-out for this Deadpool. This is easily my favorite figure from them in years (and quite possibly ever, to be honest). This just looks so good–it pretty much erases that poor Hulk from my memory.

The NECA Deadpool 1/4 figure is now available for order, and is scheduled to be released in November 2016. The MSRP is set at $129.99 on this ‘Pool, but EE has him available for pre-order at the crazy bargain price of $92.99 and free shipping. Lock in that discount while you can, Deadpoolites–this figure is gonna be hot, and I don’t expect him to be priced-slashed for very long.
