SDCC 2018: Marvel Legends M’Baku! Deadpool On Scooter! DOGPOOL!

The Marvel Legends “main event” of San Diego Comic-Con 2018 won’t be until the Hasbro panel tomorrow night, but Hasbro has been giving us fresh nibbles each day to whet our appetites. And following up on their announcement of the first half of the Black Panther Marvel Legends Wave 2 Figures Thursday morning, they’ve now announced the remainder of the wave! Those who guessed a M’Baku Build-A-Figure—you guessed right! And hey—how about Deadpool on Scooter, Tactical Killmonger, Dogpool and more?!

Hasbro brings their ‘A’-Game to San Diego Comic Con every single year, and this year’s show is no exception! We haven’t even made it to the big Marvel Legends panel yet, but already a double-digit number of future Marvel Legends have debuted—with plenty more to come before the end of the show!

Among the surprises at the show this year, Marvel Legends Deadpool on Scooter—with Dogpool and Squirrelpool—has to be one of the biggest. There were rumors floating that this was a possibility, but I truly don’t believe them until I saw the prototype.

The horn, the wide-eyed Deadpool Head, the sculpted Deadpool logo on the front of the bike, the packed-in Squirrelpool and Dogpool Figures… I didn’t think I needed yet another 6” ML Deadpool figure, but it turns out I was dead wrong.

Marvel Legends M'Baku Build-A-Figure Official Photo SDCC 2018As most people correctly guessed as soon as the Black Panther Legends Wave 2 series was announced yesterday, a Marvel Legends M’Baku is coming as the Build-A-Figure of that series.

M’Baku turned out to be a genuinely huge surprise fan-favorite character from the Black Panther movie, so it warms my heart to see that Hasbro went to the trouble of creating new tooling to give us this very popular supporting character. I think the M’Baku Build-A-Figure is going to sell a lot of movie figures this winter that otherwise might sit on shelves!

The final two single-packed figures in the M’Baku Series will be Tactical Killmonger and Vibranium Black Panther.

The purple glowing vibranium effects on Black Panther’s armor were a significant part of the movie, and I’ve really felt like I was missing out not having a Marvel Legends 6” figure demonstrating this ability. Score another one for Hasbro!

Finally, Tactical Erik Killmonger. This is a true rarity for Hasbro—a totally different second 6” figure of a movie villain (in addition to the unmasked two-pack version coming up as a Target exclusive!). Oftentimes, we don’t get the movie villains in figure form at all, so it’s clear that Hasbro was really listening to fan demand for this Michael B Jordan-played character.

No word yet on the case ratios for the Marvel Legends Black Panther M’Baku series, but I sure hope the double-packed figures are Vibranium Armor Black Panther and Tactical Killmonger.

Now that we’ve seen the full set of Black Panther Legends, what are your thoughts on this surprisingly all-movie MCU Wave? Does this set having no comic figures make it easier or harder to pass? And how do you like the VERY unconventional Deadpool “motorcycle”?

SDCC 2018: Marvel Legends M’Baku! Deadpool On Scooter! DOGPOOL! — 10 Comments

  1. Sold!!! T’Chaka is a true piece of art and the others are welcomed additions to a great and monumental film.

  2. I wouldn’t hesitate to get the M’Baku figure if it were a single packed figure. Not gonna hunt this wave down to build him though. Tactical Killmonger looks great and will probably the only figure I get from this wave. Deadpool on scooter with Deaddog and Deadsquirrel. I don’t think so.

  3. Have only M’Baku interest and no interest in any others especially not the Deadpool crap. May interest others but not me.

  4. This is the BP wave they should have done the first time, maybe with one of the T’Challas swapped for wave 1 Killmonger and Ayo swapped for Nakia. I only really need one Black Panther fig for my collection, but I’m tempted by this whole wave because they all look so cool.

  5. Wait, there are 2 T’Challa figures in this wave? Wish they would have just included the CW head as an extra with the vibranium body and worked Shuri into this wave. I realize it’s a costing issue, but I’m sure at least one of those two T’Challa figures won’t get displayed. That having been said, this wave is sooo amazing!

    • I don’t think it’s a costing issue—I think this Wave was a decision made after the movie came out and that the development time needed to get Shuri out was just too great. She probably has too much new tooling for her to be ready to ship out by the end of the year, which is why she’ll be in a different set next year.

    • If I’ve got my info correct, the Vibranium-lit T’Challa is also coming with an unmasked head, but with a more neutral expression compared to the smirking one with the CW/beginning of BP T’Challa.

  6. So, you say Oct is earliest to pre-order and then delivery 4-8 weeks later? And the ride looks like the near-Vespa he rode in DP2 or the Pop! #48 & DP comic #68 – Taskmaster got dumped for the 2 critters.
