Considering that we had seen at least the untainted prototypes of five of the six Kotobukiya Avengers ArtFX+ statues at NYCC 2013 in October, I had an expectation of seeing the whole lineup at New York Toy Fair 2014 this weekend. I was not disappointed–the Avengers Kotobukiya Iron Man ArtFX+ statue has been revealed, and he brought the painted Kotobukiya Thor statue along for the ride!
First, and most notably, we got our initial look at the Marvel Now Iron Man Avengers ArtFX+ statue, the last one of the Marvel NOW Avengers statues that we hadn’t seen yet.
The prototype is still unpainted at this time, but we can see the sculpting details and pose that Kotobukiya has adapted for the design. If you’ve seen the Adi Granov artwork that this lineup is based off of, then the Iron Man sculpt here shouldn’t come as a surprise to you at all. I’m very much looking forward to seeing what paints Kotobukiya eventually chooses to put on this statue, and how shiny (or not) they’re going to be.
The Avengers Iron Man ArtFX+ prototype is unpainted at the moment, but he’ll eventually be in his Marvel NOW! black and gold armor. This will be a very nice contrast to the uncountable multitude of red and yellow Iron Man statues presently available.
The only real complaint I’ve got with this Marvel Now Iron Man statue is that I’m not 100% convinced that this Iron Man Kotobukiya ArtFX+ is quite the right height–he seems awfully close to being taller than Thor to me (in fact, I’d swear he is taller than Thor), which seems questionable. I don’t recall Iron Man being that tall in the comics.
And speaking of Thor–the god of thunder finally made his entrance in painted form at NYTF 2014. Painted, the Kotobukiya Thor Avengers Now ARTFX+ statue looks exquisite. He’s probably tied with Black Widow as my favorite and the most authentic of the five Avengers Kotobukiya statues shown thus far.
Finally, we got a peek at the packaging for the Avengers Hulk ArtFX+ statue, which is due to ship next month.
The box is certainly nothing amazing, but it is colorful and will look nice in my closet after I remove the Hulk statue “candy” prize inside. I’ll be posting more New York Toy Fair 2014 updates all week, and you can ‘Like’ Marvel Toy News on Facebook to have news, updates and photos sent right to your Facebook Newsfeed!
Now that we’ve seen the whole Avengers Assembled, what do you think, Marvel Collectors? Is the Kotobukiya Avengers statue lineup worth your $300+?
