Toy Fair 2016: Diamond Select Toys Spider-Gwen Figure!

While the 2016 Toy Fair International won’t officially begin until this Saturday (2/13/2016), many companies are taking the opportunity this week to preview newly revealed toys in advance of the show. Diamond Select Toys is one such company, and they’re countering the Bishoujo Spider-Gwen statue that went up earlier this week with a Gwen Stacy of their own: the Marvel Gallery Spider-Gwen figure debuts at New York Toy Fair 2016!

Marvel Gallery Spider-Gwen 9” PVC Figure

Even though none of their new Marvel statues have begun hitting stores yet since Diamond Select Toys announced they were re-entering the Marvel statue game last year, DST has announced more than a half-dozen releases in their various statue lines now.

But of them all, the one that I think looks the very best is one that was just announced today as part of their Toy Fair 2016 Preview: the 9″ Spider-Gwen Marvel Gallery statue! While I think that the Kotobukiya Spider-Gwen is among the best releases in the Bishoujo line, this Marvel Gallery Spider-Gwen PVC statue is equally impressive–just in a totally different style.

Whereas the Bishoujo Spider-Gwen has a slightly cartoon-like, manga/anime style to it, the Diamond Spider-Gwen (sculpted by Jean St. Jean) looks like she’s leapt straight out of the pages of one of her Marvel comic books!

Personally, I love both styles and plan on picking up both of these beautiful, unique-sculpted figures of my favorite version of Gwen Stacy. That said, I anticipate that those who want a strictly comic-based look for the Gwen Spider-Woman will be opting for Diamond Select Toys’ take on her.

Marvel Gallery Spider-Gwen Figure with Green Goblin Head on Brick WallThis Marvel Gallery Spider-Gwen figure has two other advantages over the Kotobukiya Bishoujo version: the base and the price.

While the Bishoujo Gwen has a pretty “basic” base (which is basically just a clear stand), the Diamond Select Toys Spider-Gwen has a highly detailed brick building base with foliage growing on it that Gwen is attached to (complete with a creepy brick face that resembles the Green Goblin checking Gwen out!).

Meanwhile, while the Koto Gwen Stacy has an MSRP of $75, DST has set the price on their Marvel Gallery version to a rock-bottom $45. Diamond tends to have some of the best values around–but even so, for an original 9″ statue, that’s pretty crazy!

Diamond Select Toys Spider-Gwen Statue RevealedAnd for those already collecting the Marvel Femme Fatales line, have no fear–Diamond Select has confirmed that this Spider-Gwen statue will be fully-compatible scale-wise with all of the women released in the Femme Fatales lineup, even though Gwen isn’t officially part of that series.

I’ll be posting more news and photos from the New York Toy Fair 2016 all weekend long from every Marvel merchandiser from Hasbro to Funko to LEGO to Comicave Studios, so be sure to Follow Marvel Toy News on Twitter and Facebook to see all the latest news, images and articles as I post them throughout the next few days. It’s gonna be wild!

Which of the first two statues of Marvel’s hottest female character do you prefer, Marvel collectors? Are you sticking with the Kotobukya Bishoujo, or does the Diamond Select Toys Spider-Gwen win the day?
