X-Men Marvel Legends 2019 Caliban Series Figures Packaged Photos!

The three waves of Marvel Legends figures hitting this month (the Spider-Man Kingpin Series, Captain Marvel Movie Series and Black Panther M’Baku Series) have been a bit hit-or-miss with collectors, with many fans saying they’re picking-and-choosing just a figure or two or even skipping the waves entirely. But Hasbro posted the first packaging photos today of a wave that’s got “surefire blockbuster” written all over it: the 2019 Marvel Legends X-Men Caliban Series of 6” Figures!

X-Men Marvel Legends Beast Figure Packaged 2019

Over the course of the summer and fall, Hasbro fully rolled out the lineup for the Marvel Legends 2019 Series. We weren’t expecting the wave to be released until spring 2019 (March/April)—and still aren’t—but usually these packaged photos turn up shorty before figures start to ship internationally. Hmmm.

Hasbro surprised us with the Warlock Series months earlier than expected in 2017—I wonder if we might see history repeat itself with the Caliban series?

The Marvel Legends Caliban Series case ratios are as follows:

  • (2) Gambit
  • (1) Beast
  • (1) Jubilee
  • (1) Weapon X Wolverine
  • (1) Forge
  • (1) Blink
  • (1) Reaver Skullbuster
  • Build-A-Figure: Caliban

With an all-star series like this one, I’m sure Hasbro really struggled deciding whether to double-pack Gambit, Beast or Weapon X in the case packs. X-Men is the wave that sells the most full cases to collectors each year, though, so hopefully the shortages of single-packed figures won’t be too much of an issue.

X-Men Marvel Legends Skullbuster Packaged ReaversFor those staring blankly at the extra head that comes with Skullbuster, it’s to allow him to be changed into his fellow members of the Reavers, Reese! Yes, there’s finally a Marvel Legends Reese figure. Now we can all die happy. Heh.

Even so, Skullbuster isn’t likely to be on anyone in the universe’s list of top 200 characters, so this figure is almost certain to be one of the slowest-selling ML figures of the year–especially with a Build-A-Figure choice in Caliban that a lot of folks would consider “weak”.

Marvel Legends 2019 Weapon X Wolverine PackagedWeapon X Wolverine gets a surprise alternate unmasked head as well, though I imagine the style will be a turn-off for many Wolverine fans. I’ve never liked the look of Logan in his Weapon X gear all my life, but I’m buying a whole case of this wave, so I guess this’ll be my first Weapon X. It really does look well-done, albeit not something I’m sure where to display on my shelves.

Marvel Legends Blink X-Men Caliban Series PackagedMarvel Legends Blink will be getting perhaps the coolest accessories in the series—teleportation energy javelins and a teleportation effect ring! Anyone else smell a new ML Nightcrawler in the future they can reuse this teleporting effect for…?

X-Men Marvel Legends Gambit Figure PackagedGambit may be runner-up accessories-wise, as I love that he comes with a whole extra switch-out hand with charged cards attached to it. Not having to worry about accessories falling off or fitting snugly always puts a smile on my face. While I don’t think this version is quite as nice as the (expensive) Revoltech Gambit that’s hitting later this year, I do think it utterly trashes any mass-market Gambit figure we’ve ever gotten in the United States before.

X-Men Legends Jubilee Figure Packaged Photo Marvel 2019

Rounding out the series are two characters Hasbro has never released single-packed before: Jim Lee Jubilee and Forge. This is the Jubilee I have literally been waiting for for over 25 years–that I dreamed of as a kid–so to say that I am pumped to finally own the ultimate Marvel Legends Jubilee figure is a gross understatement.

The lack of fireworks effects pieces for Jubilee is a bit of a head-scratcher, but the removable glasses and alternate bubblegum-blowing head more than make up for that. And at this point, it’s not like we all don’t have a big pile of excess effects pieces lying around, right…?

Forge is, well… he’s pretty basic, but he’s never really been a flashy guy. His one mechanical hand is covered by a glove, which is a shame, since it would add some extra visual intrigue. The boots on Forge look great and he’ll be good to fill out a roster on the shelf.

2019 Marvel Legends Forge X-Men Series Figure PackagedThe X-Men Legends Caliban Series is expected to go up for order online this winter, and should begin arriving in early spring 2019. Experience and intuition tells me that this wave is going to be HOT, so those who order online are going to have a much, much easier time of getting the popular figures like Beast, Jubilee, Weapon X and Gambit. I’ll post links to order here and to the Marvel Toy News Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages once POs open up.

Having seen the final figures packaged with all of their accessories, how are you feeling about the X-Men Marvel Legends Caliban Series, ML collectors? Is anyone out there planning on buying this wave solely to build the Caliban Build-A-Figure, and on the flip-side, is anyone skipping characters in this wave because they don’t care about Caliban?

X-Men Marvel Legends 2019 Caliban Series Figures Packaged Photos! — 20 Comments

  1. I’m hoping and praying for Nightcrawler in the Wendigo BAF wave that they have barely announced. He was in the classic comic where some of the X-men went north to Canada to team with some of Alpha Flight to stop Wendigo and save that poor woman and her child from being eaten. The Claremont, Byrne, Austin days still rule over not just all other X-men periods, but maybe all periods for all titles in the history of comics. Bring me Nightcrawler in that wave!

    • dunno if you’ve heard the rumors about an ML 80th anniversary line. supposedly 2-packs of Hulk vs. FA Wolverine, Colossus vs Juggernaut, & singles of Alex Ross Thor and Alex Ross Iron man. Plus some mcu 2-packs. Figured if you are a Byrne/Austin fan some of that stuff might be up your alley. Only thing is they sound like they may be pricey.

      • Thanks for the info. I will have to look that up and find out more. The expense would have to be pretty high for me not to be interested if the items are good enough and appeal to my nostalgia for the good times in the comics industry (in my opinion 1973-1986).

  2. I’ll be getting them all. Don’t want Weapon X but I do want Caliban so necessary purchase there. Finally a Jubilee figure!

  3. They keep saying that caliban is a weak character. only known by the movie stander’s he’s a great character in the comics and I appreciate that they gave him the big body caliban from apocalypse Horsemen. This one is a great wave even with skullbuster even if he’s not the solid character. Don’t know much about the reavers but the only one of the group that I liked the most was the tank legs character that I do not know the name right now but very solid wave

  4. I’m definitely getting Beast. I’m not into 90s x-men so the character selection isn’t doing much for me personally but i can certainly understand why a lot of folks are pumped up for this wave. I’ll pick up any of the other figures that end up pegwarming or just on sale at a decent discount, except maybe Forge. Not much interest in the BAF although i like the glossy red color on his costume.

  5. I’ll be cherry picking wave(as with most waves this year).Beast and Jubilee is all I want from this wave. I was gonna get Gambit but I’ll get the revoltech rendition instead.

  6. Skipped the Kingpin wave, but I don’t think I can skip this one… Not hugely interested in Weapon-X, but the others are pretty much all must-haves.

  7. I’ve seen pictures of the Walgreens exclusive mystique figure online too. Came with additional heads I didn’t know about.

  8. I don’t want Weapon X or Skullbuster, so I hate that they both come with Caliban pieces. Not that I’m desperate for a Caliban figure, but I hate having MOST of a BAF and not completing it! (I’m looking at you, Juggernaut-without-a-waist, lying in pieces in a drawer!)

    • I can’t have that either. 2/3 of a BAF? No way. I resorted to buying an individual arm to complete the Lizard BAF. Wasn’t going to spend 35 or 40 bucks for that punk rock Spidey.

      • I’m hoping that both Skullbuster and Weapon X end up being discounted eventually. I just know if I see them in stores though (at full price)…it’ll be hard to resist the call of a completed BAF!

  9. Super excited for this wave. Been waiting for figures of Gambit (SO GLAD he’s two-per-case), Jubilee, Beast, and Blink. Forge looks great as well.

Weapon X Wolverine isn’t a version of Logan that I really want, but he looks fine.

Even Skullbuster, minor character that he is, looks neat. Fantastic wave, can’t wait to get it.

  10. I’m suuuper pumped for Weapon X but besides him think I’ll only pick up Blink to add to my 90’s x people shelf

  11. Looking forward to this installment of figures. Been trying to bring together the 92 team for nostalgia. Im hoping they make some of the other reavers rather just an extra head. As for the caliban baf, I’m psyched on it. Also gunning for hasbro to eventually make the additional 3 horsemen of the apocalypse. After this set, they just need a new Jean Grey and Storm to suit the 92 team. Morph would also be pretty sweet. Cant wait for this line to come out. Gonna pick it up from Frank and Son…

  12. I’m easily all in for this wave, if nothing else, we get a proper Jubilee figure, Forge, a new Beast and Gambit, and straight from my childhood 90’s Toybiz X-men figure collection, Caliban. Hell’s yeah I’m all in!

  13. Gambit was my only “HE WILL BE MINE” figure and I was kind of on the fence about Blink. But seeing her in package with these perfect accessories, SHE WILL ALSO BE MINE! 😃 That portal piece just sets her right up there so awesomely!
But also…oh my Gods I hope it makes it safe to assume and hope that we will in fact be getting an updated Nightcrawler with the Wendigo wave!

  14. I can’t even find a complete set of the LAST X-men wave, although I did manage to snag Psylocke and Jamie Madrox. My region just steadfastly refuses to stock them, probably because some of the older waves are still warming the pegs …
