I get a handful of people messaging me each and every week asking when the 2015 Marvel Legends Avengers figures series will be going up for order. Unfortunately, Hasbro hasn’t allowed retailers to open pre-orders yet for the series (and likely won’t until closer to the new year). That said, while you can’t order them just yet, thanks to a series of auctions listed by a Hong Kong scrapper, we can get our first look at some stolen/discarded factory samples of the Avengers Marvel Legends Infinite Series coming our way this winter!
Even if you’re dying to be the first kid on your block to own the all-new Marvel Legends Scarlet Witch or Carol Danvers Captain Marvel figures, don’t buy these: not only do scrapped figures usually have some form of flaws or defects, but the estimated delivery date on the figures isn’t until January or even February 2015–meaning we very well may have the legal, Hasbro-released Avengers Marvel Legends Infinite Series figures in-hand before the people who buy these illegal ones receive theirs.
So, in summary: don’t buy these. Got it? Good.
Now then, let’s take a look at these factory production copies of the Marvel Legends 2015 Avengers figures…
First up, it’s the 6″ Marvel Legends Scarlet Witch figure. The Toybiz Scarlet Witch figure is one of the most universally-ridiculed Marvel Legends figures ever produced, so Hasbro didn’t have to work too hard to surpass the bar Toybiz set for this character.
Thankfully, Hasbro’s Scarlet Witch isn’t just better–it’s worlds better than the Marvel Legends Scarlet Witch Toybiz produced. The face, the sculpting and proportions of the body, and the awesome hex effects pieces on this Marvel Legends Avengers Scarlet Witch figure are all fantastic. I fully expect this Scarlet Witch to be the “Marvel Legends Carnage” of 2015 and hard-to-find all year long.
Next, we’ve got the new Marvel Legends Sentry figure. I’ve heard some criticism of the proportions on this Sentry action figure, but they look A-OK to me. The Sentry is probably the most powerful man in the whole Marvel a Universe, so his crazy musculature doesn’t seem weird to me in the least.
I am, however, disappointed in the fact that Sentry will have a hole in his back above the cape. I understand that these molds need to be repurposed for cost reasons, but the holes look awful. I wish Hasbro had cheated and raised Sentry’s cape to hide the hole.
The Marvel Legends Classic Hawkeye is going to be hugely popular with collectors, as evidenced by the fact that the scrapper of that figure is selling for $150 on eBay already.
Classic Marvel Legends Hawkeye comes with the same bow and quiver as the Modern Hawkeye in the Marvel Legends Rocket Raccoon wave–just molded in purple. I’m not sure that that bow is the ideal choice for a classic-style Hawkeye action figure (and the quiver looks too large this time out), but they’ll have to do.
Hawkeye seems to have a giant noggin based off these scrapper photos, but I believe that’s just the angle of the photos. Hasbro has certainly had ample time to perfect this Marvel Legends Hawkeye figure, what with him having been delayed well over a year and all.
While he’s not nearly as popular a character as many in this series, I’m still quite psyched about the long-long white Marvel Legends Iron Fist figure finally making his overdue appearance in 2015.
There aren’t a lot of accessories that make sense for Iron Fist–so Hasbro is giving is eight interchangeable hands to compensate! Now that’s service!
Something about the skin-tone color on Iron Fist looks off to me, and his sash looks to be the kind that flops around infuriating me, but this is one of the figures I’m anticipating most in the 2015 Marvel Legends Infinite Series nonetheless.
2015 Marvel Legends Avengers Infinite Series Machine Man Figure
And speaking of unpopular characters–here’s Marvel Legends Machine Man!
Machine Man is far from a mainstream character these days, but die-hard Nextwave fans and longtime comic readers will absolutely appreciate his unexpected appearance in this series. As far as figures go, Machine Man is pretty basic, but you’ve gotta love the sparkly purple paint utilized on this figure!
I don’t expect the Machine Man Marvel Legends 2015 figure to be a hot seller, but I also expected this year’s Ultimate Beetle to rot on the pegs, so I guess you never know.
The Marvel Legends 2015 Thor figure seems like a weird inclusion here, as the figure is basically just the Marvel Legends Wave 1 Thor with a new head and sword (and a crazy dew-rag). That said, there are plenty of collectors who weren’t collecting when Hasbro relaunched Marvel Legends, so I expect this Thor to do quite well sales-wise and hardly pegwarm at all (or so I hope).
I would’ve liked to have seen Hasbro add ankle rockers to this Thor figure to improve it from its original release, but it doesn’t seem that that was in the cards.
Avengers Marvel Legends 2015 Captain Marvel Carol Danvers Figure
The paint looks really sloppy on this figure, but don’t judge this Marvel Legends Carol Danvers action figure based off these photos–there’s a reason that this figure was scrapped from the factory, and it’s most likely the shoddy paint deco quality control on it.
It’s a really classy move by Hasbro to include both the masked and unmasked Captain Marvel heads with this figure, and I’m especially excited that it’s short-haired Carol Danvers (I don’t care for the long-haired Carol look in her current series–sorry).
The seam-lines on the front of Carol Danvers’ legs bother me more on this figure than they do on Scarlet Witch, though. It may be time for Hasbro to (HA!) invest in some new female figure tooling.
Marvel Legends Odin Build-A-Figure/King Thor Build-A-Figure
Finally, we’ve got the Avengers Marvel Legends Odin Build-A-Figure (which also happens to be the Marvel Legends King Thor Build-A-Figure).
Odin’s staff really could have used some paint deco on it, as it looks very “toy”-like just being molded in gold. But hey, at least Thor’s axe (Jarnbjorn) has some paint apps on it!
I don’t imagine that anyone but the most hardcore of current Marvel Comics readers will opt for King Thor over a Marvel Legends Odin (I might), but I deeply appreciate Hasbro giving us the extra pieces and the option of doing so.
Marvel Legends Avengers Infinite Series should be available for pre-order online by 1/1/2015, so if you’re dying to order a case of these figures, your wait shouldn’t be that much longer. Hold tight! I’ll post an alert on the Marvel Toy News Facebook Page once these of up for order, so keep your eyes peeled if you’re intent on grabbing an early order for this set (and who isn’t?).
Now that we’ve seen production photos of the figures, are you still digging the Avengers Marvel Legends 2015 figures, Marvel fans? Which figures (if not all of them) will you be picking up?
Definitely getting Captain Marvel and Hawkeye, I’ll skip the rest.
Great read thanks for posting.
There’s definitely more to the Thor other than the new head and sword. The trim on the outfit is a different color as well as what looks like a more vibrant red cape. But the big thing is the bare arms without chain-mail.
To the casual Thor fan I can see that some might not want to grab this one if they have the previous version but the inclusion of this version is paramount in my opinion. The previous version is based on Olivier Coipels drawing during his run with writer J Michael Straczynski. This version is from the Thor God of Thunder series by writer Jason Aaron and artist Esad Ribic. The reason it’s important to this series is the build a King Thor version came from this storyline. So adding Ribic’s version of the two Thors and even adding King Thor as an option was really clever planning on their part. My only complaint is that they didn’t also include young Thor from the series because all three worked together to take down a god butcher. But I suppose that would have been too many Thors.
Thanks again for the great article. I also recommend to anyone who reads this to check out that series of comics I was talking about. It’s a really good read.
Well said. Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic really delivered with Thor:GOT and it’s great to see them in plastic. Big fan.
