Amazing Spider-Man 2 Green Goblin & Spidey Movie Busts!

With the once-mighty Bowen Designs unlikely to release a single Marvel mini bust in 2014 (and maybe not ever again), superhero mini busts definitely appear to be on life support. Even so, Diamond Select Toys will give Marvel bust collectors at least something to smile about later this year, when they release a pair of Marvel mini busts based on 2014’s not-quite-hottest Marvel movie: the Amazing Spider-Man 2 Green Goblin and Spider-Man mini busts are now available for order!

Though DST had the Green Goblin bust on display at the 2014 Toy Fair in February, taking photos of the bust was discouraged (as the new Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie version of the Green Goblin was still shrouded in mystery at that time). The new look for ol’ Gobby has been all over the media by now, though, so collectors are finally able to see what Diamond Select Toys and Gentle Giant Ltd. have cooked up!

My impression of the Green Goblin Amazing Spider-Man 2 mini bust is that it’s… okay. While there’s a ton of nice sculpting details on this bust and Dane DeHaan is obviously going to be one really freaking creepy Green Goblin, I’m going to really need to see how the Green Goblin comes off in the new movie before I’m ready to commit to purchasing this bust. Gentle Giant seems to have done a very impressive job with the sculpting on this piece, but I’m not sold on the Green Goblin’s makeover yet.

I already own more than a few Spider-Man busts, but this one is definitely unique in that it looks like Spidey is breaking a “Word!” pose after finishing a rap. The pose and the posture on this Amazing Spider-Man 2 mini bust look rather bizarre, and make this Spidey bust a definite pass for me.

I’m a tough person to impress as far as busts go (having been spoiled by the amazing decade and a half of Bowen Designs mini busts), but what do you think of the Amazing Spider-Man 2 mini busts, Marvel fans? Are either of these busts going to be a keeper for your collection?
