Amazing Spider-Man Marvel Legends Wave 2 Case Ratios Revealed!

Once I saw that the Hong Kong scrappers had listed the Amazing Spider-Man 2 Marvel Legends variants online earlier this month, I was 100% certain that (for a change) these Marvel Legends variant swap figures would actually be released. And lo and behold, they actually are coming–Spider-Man Legends Wave 2 is now up for pre-order! Unfortunately, the case ratios for Amazing Spider-Man Marvel Legends Series 2 are every bit as bad as we could have imagined…

Amazing Spider-Man 2 Marvel Legends Wave 2 Case Ratios Confirmed

When Hasbro said referred to the Marvel Legends Amazing Spider-Man 2 variant figures as “swap” figures, they really weren’t kidding! The only thing that’s different about the second case assortment of Amazing Spider-Man Marvel Legends Infinite Series cases is that three of the one-per-case figures have been swapped out for the variants.

The Amazing Spider-Man Marvel Legends 2014 Wave 2 case ratios are as follows:

(2) Amazing Spider-Man 2 Spider-Man
(2) Superior Spider-Man
(1) Amazing Spider-Man 2 Electro
(1) Toxin
(1) Spider-Girl Anya Corazon
(1) Boomerang

2014 Marvel Legends Spider-Man Deadliest Foes Boomerang Variant Figure PackagedJust as we feared, the same Spider-Man figures that were two-per-case in the first wave will be repeated in Wave 2. So once again, half of every case of these Marvel Legends Spider-Man Infinite Series figures will be composed entirely of Spider-Man himself. Yikes.

While these case ratios have “potential retail catastrophe” written all over them, there’s a couple silver linings. First, there’s a very real possibility that there will be a big demand for the Amazing Spider-Man 2 Marvel Legends Spider-Man figure at retail this spring, what with the movie coming out and all. Despite being two-per-case in both case assortments, it’s actually pretty feasible that fans actually may buy up all of these movie-styled ASM2 Spider-Man action figures.

Spider-Man Marvel Legends Toxin Figure Packaged Marvel Legends 2014Second, the three Spider-Man Marvel Legends variants in this Wave 2 case are all highly obscure characters. Joe Bob the casual fan very likely may not have the slightest clue who Boomerang, Toxin, or Anya Corazon Spider-Girl even are. These are not big-name characters like Carnage or Black Cat were–if the second wave of Spider-Man Legends figures does end up seeing limited distribution, Hasbro made the right move putting the more obscure characters in the second set.

I’m not saying these figures will be easy to get–they’re probably going to be a huge pain–but in the long run we’re much better off if the Marvel Legends Black Cat and Carnage figures see a higher production quantity than their lesser-known “swap” counterparts.

Marvel Legends Skyline Sirens Spider-Girl Packaged Variant FigureThe Amazing Spider-Man Marvel Legends Infinite Series Wave 2 cases and sets are now available for pre-order, although I suspect no one is going to be happy about having to buy a bunch of repeats to get the three new characters. ASM2 Marvel Legends Wave 2 is expected to be released in February 2014.

What say you, Marvel Legends fans? Are you furious at Hasbro for these unfavorable case ratios, or are you just happy that we’re actually going to get a chance to purchase Marvel Legends variant figures for a change?

  1. So will these Swap figures show up on Hasbro Toy Shop you think? Or just under the term deadliest foes and you don’t know what one you’re getting?

    • The AIM Trooper and Hydra Soldier have shown up on Hasbro Toy Shop, so it’s possible these swap figures will as well?

Honestly, so few Marvel Legends variants have been released the past few years that it’s impossible to establish a reliable pattern on HTS, unfortunately.

  2. I’m so paranoid that when the stores in my area restock these, at that point the variants will have been released, causing me to miss out on the Black Cat figure that I want soooo badly. I’m sure that there are plenty of others who can’t find a Black Cat and are going to be stuck with the new Spider- Girl instead. Lol, even when Hasbro tries to do something right, we collectors still get screwed over 🙂

  3. Wave 1 of the Cap series did away with this foolish practice. 1 Skull/1Hydra soldier;Agents of Hydra,
1Baron Z/1 Aim soldier;Agents of Aim, I was so elated to see this in my local Target! However, rumors of the death of “swaps/running change” were sadly exaggerated in the Spiderman series. AwCmon,Hasbro! Just kill it and be done with it. Eradicate this foolishness. It’s a chaotic and archaic method of absolute folly. Please…Let it die!
    RIP running change.

  4. Newbie question here: With Wave 2 released, does that mean that no more Wave 1 cases will ever be shipped to stores? With the movie not even coming until May, I would think those would get restocked, but I don’t really know how these Waves work. Thanks in advance!

  5. If I can only buy 1, which 1 would be the best and rarest.
spider girl, boomerang, or spawn symbiote?

    • Toxin and Carnage are the two hardest figures to find from this series, so I’d start with them.

      • I got the 3 I mentioned in my hand, but I can only buy 1. I know when I put the other 2 back, that’s probably the last time I’ll see them, so I want to get the best 1
