Black Panther Marvel Legends Namor & Black Bolt Figures! SDCC

Either the excitement of the Hasbro SDCC 2017 panel was just too much for me or I’m just old (hint: it’s the latter), because I plum fell asleep while in the process of doing the write-ups with the Marvel Legends hi-res photos. But I’m awake again, so let’s kick off the final day of Comic-Con with a look at the first two figures from the 2018 Marvel Legends Black Panther movie series: Black Bolt and Namor!

Marvel Legends Black Panther Series Namor Figure

At this point, I don’t think anybody is even the least bit surprised that there’s going to be a Black Panther Marvel Legends series in early 2018. I mean, c’mon–if Doctor Strange and Ant-Man get waves to accompany their respective movies, collectors would call quite a bit of wrath down upon Hasbro if Black Panther was left out.

Unfortunately, Hasbro isn’t permitted to show off any of its Black Panther movie figures just yet (I really wanted to see that new Klaw, too), but we did get a sneak peek at two comic-based figures in the wave accompanying T’Challa: Black Bolt and Namor!

Packaged Marvel Legends Namor Walgreens Exclusive FigureYeah, yeah, I know: “But we just got Namor!” And while it’s true the Walgreens Exclusive Marvel Legends Namor figure in his black costume was just released last year, it’s been a long time since a Namor came out in his classic green trunks–and the one in the Ronan Build-A-Figure series wasn’t all that.

And so, here we have a classic Namor the Submariner figure up to modern ML standards and in his classic green trunks costume. Plus: an alternate bearded head for Namor will also be included, and was displayed at SDCC! Perfection.

Black Panther Marvel Legends Black Bolt Figure

Meanwhile–! The other 6″ Black Panther Legends figure revealed also had a figure released a few years back: the King of the Inhumans, Black Bolt! With a new Marvel Legends Medusa hitting Walgreens soon and the Inhumans series arriving in under two months, Hasbro would be crazy not to make a mass release Marvel Legends Black Bolt figure to coincide.

While some collectors are likely going to be salty that their SDCC 2014 Black Bolt figure’s value just plummeted a bit, there’s quite a bit of aesthetic difference to this new version.

Black Bolt Marvel Legends 2014 SDCC Exclusive Hasbro Action FigureThe all-new screaming head with energized eyes and tuning fork antenna look awesome, and it’s worth noting that this version of Black Bolt is in his classic dark blue costume and not the modern black and silver costume from the Thanos Imperative set. (Hey, if Funko can release Black Bolt POPs with both color schemes, then why shouldn’t Hasbro, right?)

While both of these figures are technically just new versions of characters we’ve had toys of in the last few years, both of them are definitely worthy additions to the Marvel Legends Black Panther series (and an Illuminati collection).

Black Panther Legends Namor and Black Bolt 6 Inch FiguresWhat else are you hoping to see in the Black Panther movie Marvel Legends series, Marvel collectors? Are there any other comic-based characters related to T’Challa you’d like released in 6″ Legends form, or are you hoping that the rest of the wave is primarily composed of movie figures? And what about the Black Panther series Build-A-Figure? Any ideas?

Black Panther Marvel Legends Namor & Black Bolt Figures! SDCC — 25 Comments

  1. I think Namor is much better the first one and is something people have been asking for a update for. and it’s great to see BB get mass retail. I just wish the only Inhumans we have weren’t just Medusa and BB (and Kamala if you count but I’m talking classic).

  2. They showed a blurry teaser image at the end of the panel that had what looks like a redone Klaw (not sure if comic or movie version) and Princess Shuri (comic version) alongside the new MCU Panther figure. So I’m guessing there will be maybe one or two other movie figures (Killmonger maybe?)

  3. I’m pleased as hell, cause I’m a huge Namor fan, and I have been yearning for a a quality green trunks Namor since ToyBiz. The crappy one we got when Hasbro first took charge, just did not cut it. Now if we can only get a golden age Tim Hammond Human Torch.

    • yeah. If Hasbro would just give the Walgreens one a new head and slightly different paint we be sorted. But no. They had to forget one of the most requested head swaps.

  4. Not interested. Already have both and Hasbro is getting a little to comfortable with retooling figures that they just made within a few years. I would rather get a B or even C list character that we have never had than another version of one they have made.

  5. Can we just get it over with and release a Quicksilver with that Namor head? lol

  6. This actually makes me regret selling the Walgreens one, it’s a cool figure the whole only speedo’s thing always looked too silly for me.

  7. Retooling figures that were released two or three years ago (or longer) may offend some, but not everyone was running around collecting these things. Many people have not had a chance to get these characters. Buying the old ones can sometimes cost over a hundred bucks a pop, so yeah… I’m pretty happy with some of the retooling. The ones that bug me are figures like Star Lord that have four thousand versions released in two years. And how many versions of Spider-Man, Captain America, and Iron Man do we need? But figures that were released years ago… Let the rest of us get in on the fun too, please. Maybe that’s what Hasbro has in mind.

  8. I wish the problem of underarm accessories could be fixed somehow. The Blackbolt wings are like Spiderwoman’s web wings and Warlock’s arm wires in that they only match up correctly when you have the arms in a certain position. For figures that can do so much, this seems like a glaring problem.

    • Agreed.
I’m starting to think the solution would be to have half the wing attached to the torso, and half to his biceps, and just have the two parts overlap.
Basically like the ToyBiz Falcon/Vulture wings, or the recent Darkhawk wings. Just in his armpits instead of on the outside of his elbows.

Far from a perfect solution, but it’s the best I’ve got at the moment….

  9. “and it’s worth noting that this version of Black Bolt is in his classic dark blue costume and not the modern black and silver costume from the Thanos Imperative set”

Nope. This figure is black and silver too.

  10. What other Marvel monarchs are there? I find it interesting that the two characters revealed in a wave based around a king are also kings themselves. Who else could they add? Maybe Doom…

  11. With Hasbro moving forward with the FF figures, do I dare hope that we might see the long delayed Marvel Select Watcher come out in the near future?

“And what about the Black Panther series Build-A-Figure? Any ideas?”

I’m guessing Maximus, unless they figured out a way to build Lockjaw.

  12. is there gonna be a ‘basic’ alternative head for blackbolt because i dont think i want him screaming blowing up multiverses constantly
