Exclusive Marvel Select Hawkeye & Pizza Dog Released!

Up until last month, we’d been in the midst of a bit of a Marvel Select drought, with no new figures hitting since last fall. And then, suddenly–thunder strikes!–and Diamond Select Toys has inundated with them. Following up on the recently-shipping Marvel Select Cable, Carnage and Modern Thor figures, a new figure has popped up–the Disney Store Exclusive Marvel Select Avenging Hawkeye… with Pizza Dog!

UPDATED 3/19/2015: Added some additional photos and details on Hawkeye & Pizza Dog!

Avenging Hawkeye Marvel Select Figure Packaged with Pizza Dog

Even though Diamond Select Toys is only due a small smattering of Marvel Select Avengers Age of Ultron figures this year, that doesn’t mean that they’re going lite on Avengers. No, instead of giving us just movie-based Avengers, DST is filling the demand for Marvel Select Avengers figures with some really great comics-based Avengers.

And hot in pursuit of last fall’s Bleeding Edge Iron Man and this year’s Disney Store Exclusive Marvel NOW! Thor and Captain America figures, another comics-based Marvel Select figure has appeared–modern (Avenging) Hawkeye!

Marvel Select Avenging Hawkeye Figure Head SculptBased off of Matt Fraction’s beloved “Hawkeye” series (which will eventually have its last issue published… eventually), Diamond Select Toys has brought us a much-needed Marvel Select Modern Hawkeye figure (which they’ve officially titled as “Avenging Hawkeye” for whatever reason).

Hasbro released a Marvel Legends Modern Hawkeye figure two years ago, but I was never fully happy with  that figure. Diamond Select, however, definitely got it right!

Quiver and Holster on Avenging Hawkeye Marvel Select FigureThe Avenging Hawkeye Marvel Select figure authentically recreates the Hawkguy character design from the Matt Fraction Hawkeye comic book, with an appropriate quiver and arrow “holsters” on Hawkeye’s hips.

Marvel Select Hawkeye with Glasses Head SculptAnd of course, Hawkeye includes both glasses-wearing and glasses-free heads, so you can pose Hawkeye either with the glasses that he only seems to wear on covers or as he appears 99% of the time in the comic book–glasses-free. Hawkeye will also include all the accessories you’d expect to see with him, such as a bow, arrows, an alternate hand and a small crossbow!

Marvel Select Disney Store Hawkeye Arrows Close-UpIn total, Hawkeye includes six individual arrows, which are of varying types and arrow-tips. The arrows are made of a soft plastic, unlike the DC Collectibles Arrow arrows, which will break at the slightest of bends. Also, the quivers are a soft plastic that are bendable as well.

Marvel Select Hawkeye Quiver Filled In Cannot Store ArrowsSadly, both of Marvel Select Hawkeye’s quivers are solid on the inside, so they won’t house the arrows.

Avenging Hawkeye Marvel Select Figure with Pizza DogIf all Diamond Select Toys had included was a modern Hawkeye action figure here, I’d be really impressed with this figure. But DST had to decide to go and utterly blow me away, so they’ve included what’s probably the best accessory ever with a Marvel Select action figure–PIZZA DOG!

Marvel Select Disney Store Exclusive Hawkeye Figure with Pizza DogThose who haven’t read the Matt Fraction Hawkeye series probably don’t have a clue what the heck the deal is with “Pizza Dog”, but trust me–once you read that series, you’ll need this non-articulated Lucky (or is it “Arrow”?) the Pizza Dog figurine in your life as well.

Although Pizza Dog doesn’t have any true articulation, he does feature a soft lower jaw (think along the lines of the plastic dinosaurs and farm animals you would find at the impulse cash and wraps at Toys R’ Us and craft stores).

Marvel Select Hawkeye without Glasses and with Bandage on NoseWhile I somehow didn’t realize it earlier, Hawkeye’s unmasked head features a bandage on Clint Barton’s nose–just like in many of Matt Fraction’s “Hawkeye” issues! It’s attention little details like this that truly set Diamond Select Toys apart from Hasbro!

Marvel Select Hawkguy and Pizza Dog Figures

As of now, the sightings of this Marvel Select Avenging Hawkeye exclusive figure have been limited to one lucky collector on Facebook. With zero auction listings or other sightings thus far, I think we can chalk this up to an unexpectedly early release or a single Disney Store breaking street date. Even so, now that we know Hawkguy & Pizza Dog Marvel Select figures are on the way, it’s only a matter of time!

What do you think of the Marvel Select Disney Store Exclusive Hawkeye & Pizza Dog figures, Marvel collectors? Will you be heading to your local Disney Store (or online Disney Store) to scoop up the fourth Marvel Select figure to hit stores in a one-month period?

Exclusive Marvel Select Hawkeye & Pizza Dog Released! — 66 Comments

  1. I would’ve died if this was T-shirt-and-jeans, bandaged-up Clint Barton based on Fraction/Aja’s run. But Pizza Dog makes up for it.

      • Wait – I just noticed the sunglasses-free head has a bandage over the nose. I hadn’t seen it because of light reflection in two out of the three photos, and apparently just missing it in the last one.

I can’t explain why, but that one bandage means the world to me.

        • Sorry about that. I didn’t expect the pictures to go viral or else I would have had taken better care with the lighting.

          • No problem. As a huge fan of the Fraction/Aja run I’m just happy you brought this to attention.

          • I sent dabid some more pics some of witch are better shots of the bandaged head. Its my personal favorite as the sunglasses head looks too much like Wesker from the Resident Evil games. I am thinking about picking up another one just for the bandage head to use as a Eddie Brock custom for Venom.

          • Hey Linus614, whats the chances of getting you to grab me one if you get yourself another one? I’d be more than happy to compensate!

  2. I just checked BBTS, Dorkside, Toywiz, Marvel’s online store, Disney’s online Store and Diamond’s online store and found nothing thus far. Looks like I’m gonna be searching daily for this one.

  3. HAWKEYE! Ok. For the record. I’m NOT a fan of the “Modern” Hawkeye look. Especially with the sunglasses. BUT. Matt Fraction Modern Hawkeye? With a no sunglasses head? And PIZZA DOG? Are you freaking kidding me? My inner fanboy is squealing and flipping out like a 5 yr old who just discovered Mountain Dew and bouncy castles. This is a MUST buy. Thanks, as usual, for the update!

  4. Hey guys I just want to clarify since are my pictures. He does not come with a base and the gun mentioned is actually a detachable crossbow. I can send you the pictures of those if you like?

  5. Wonder when this will come out…this is a must have, been waiting and wondering when they’ll release modern Hawkeye!!! Finally!!!

  6. I want this so bad! he looks so great and PIZZA DOG!!!! Now if only we could get a kate bishop in bike shorts to go with it

  7. Well figure that is…but I would fight someone over the last one of these on a shelf!

  8. PIZZA DOG FTW! Wish they’d made him posable too, but still. PIZZA DOG! Gonna be hunting for this one.

  9. This figure had already released. Just went and picked up one and the ONLY one left at one of the Disney store!!

  10. Disney Store in Mall of America(Bloomington, MN) has them. I put one on hold and picking it up on my lunch break.

  11. Hey Linus, we have a couple on eBay now, one of them is using your pictures. If it’s your auction sorry dude, just thought you should know.

    • This is utter bullshit. I am not even pissed he is using my pictures, I am pissed because of that price. As collectors we need to do something about these things. I can understand a markup if a figure is a few years old and no longer being manufactured but for NEW products to go like this? As a collector when is enough-enough? Scalping does nothing for the collecting community but drive business down. Yes, they are paying retail for the item to begin with but if prices stay this way this will have the potential to drive the consumer away. This is a price bubble, it will pop one day and us legit collectors will be out in the cold. This is because as the prices continue to raise the consumer will not purchase as much.

The seller in return will not buy as much and since the general seller who was the purchaser will not buy as much the product will hardly move which will lead in to the manufacturer to make less and less items. Now, what about the average consumer you may ask? Chances will be higher they will get fed-up not being able to find the product they want in stores so they will actually stop looking for the items. This means they are not in stores looking but online looking for the better deal.

The downside to this is the scalper who already bought all the merch is now seen as the general consumer, when they start buying less because the actual consumer is not interested due to the high cost items will remain unsold. This also has to do with the actual consumer whom has given up looking for said items in stores simply loses interest all together. The bubble has now popped and everyone from the manufacturer and both the scalper and consumer are now lost in translation. This is not okay. It is shit like this that ruins everything for everyone. Comic shops are not helping this and big retail chains are not helping this cause. It is up to us to change things. Call the scalpers out, piss them off and tell them to eat shit.

      • Also pretty sure the main picture used is the same one at the top of this page. Damn scalpers.

        • I completely agree. I think you nailed it on the head. Like you said, it’s one thing for an out of stock or rare item. But to do this based on the fact it’s a bit of an at the moment oddity is total slime bag. As a community we truly need to stick together on an issue like that. But how do you stop people from buying? I guess it’s a matter of keeping the discussion alive amongst the collectors.

  12. I hope so man. I’m dying though. I’m in Canada, so my chances of getting my hands on this guy for under $100 is slim. If it was any other figure I wouldn’t sweat it, but of course it had to be Fraction and Aja’s Hawkeye with Lucky lol

    • Hey there. I picked mine up at Disney Store in Eaton Centre Toronto last week. There’s probably a short-term shortage now, but they have a seemingly endless supply of other exclusive Marvel Select figures, so if you have a Disney Store near you definitely check in.

  13. Yeah both the Disney Store and Marvel Shop won’t ship international for their Marvel Select stuff. Huge bummer.

    • But I’m sure it’ll pop up somewhere lol. Didn’t want to sound like a huge downer lol 🙂

  14. Hey guys, i’m new here. Actually found this site through this specific item someone posted about on Tumblr. And now i’m just kind of in love with this site cause its really all ive ever needed in my life for a long time…

Anyways that’s besides the point. I’m here to talk about the scalpers and about this super freakin awesome item!

First off, scalpers are terrible. But sometimes the manufacturers are just as much to blame. I’m a collector of a lot of different things, and like mentioned above, it’s coming to the point where i’m being driven away from collecting certain things at all.

For example, Nintendos new Amiibo characters. I bought 3 of them when they first came out. It’s at the point now where the day they release new ones, they’re sold out in minutes. This is not just some “hot craze” this is literally scalpers buying entire carts full of these damn things and selling them for triple the price online. I basically called it quits on even trying to get Amiibos at this point. And I partially have to blame Nintendo. Since their first wave came out they know how high demand has been, for them not to increase stock on the items as they release new waves is ridiculous.

Now that’s not at all what’s happening here. I’m nearly positive in a few weeks we’ll be seeing this guy flooding Disney Stores everywhere, and online on DisneyStore.com. I haven’t had any trouble in the past getting the Captain America Disney Store exclusive, or the Spider-man exclusive. I can’t imagine this being much different. It’ll sell a ton, sure, but I don’t imagine it being sold out everywhere to the point where the prices are deserving of what the scalpers are asking…

The sad part is, people are buying. And as a collector myself…i dont understand WHY. Do people really not thing this item is ever going to be released? Do they think a whopping 10 of them exist in the world and thats IT? This item, as far as marketing and any news about it goes, doesn’t exist. This post was the first signs of life this item received…but that doesn’t mean its some top secret item that will never be released…I just dont understand peoples mindsets when they’re willing to dish out 3x the retail price for an item that hasnt even been released yet…it’s not like its “Pre-Order Sold Out” and they know they wont be able to get one otherwise…some people are just…dumb…

In regards to what we can do about it, of course, is not buy from scalpers. We can’t stop others who want to go around and waste their money. What you CAN do if you really wanna be vicious about it and have an eBay account you dont care about, is bid on all of them, drive the prices as high as you need too. Make sure you win the auction, and then don’t pay. Keep telling the seller you’re going to pay…and then never pay. HOPEFULLY by time they realize what you’re up to the item will be widely available in the regular market and then oops…their scalping was all for naught.

I’m just kidding. I know no one would do it, but if you’re gonna stick it to the scalpers, thats one way to do it.

But really, beyond that, the only thing we can do as a collecting community is watch out for each other. See a bunch of awesome items that might be rare in other places? Got some extra cash laying around? Snatch em all up. Be like a scalper and buy them all. Then just sell em off at regular price to other collectors. Be honest about it. I mean hey, there are a lot of people who will throw in an extra few bucks for your efforts just for being honest.

For example, wouldn’t it be nice if we could save JSILLIKER a bunch of money on this guy? These guys only retail for $25…and because he lives in Canada he knows he’ll have to pay a whole lot more if he wants to get his hands on it. But WHY?!? If we come across an extra one for $25 bucks and he’s willing the pay the $20 bucks itll cost to ship it to Canada (it really shouldnt be more than that) we can save him a bunch of money! And guess what? One day he might be able to return the favor when Canada gets an early release or some kind of exclusive item!

Ya know? If we could get together and establish some kind of helpful Marvel collecting community I really think we could start something great…we just need to be honest with each other and not let greed in the way…theres a LOT of scalpers but there’s a hell of a lot more of us than there are of them.

But seriously, it would be really nice if we could set up a community to exclude scalpers. I mean, we don’t want to be “Helping” other collectors who are turning around and selling their item on eBay that we helped get them! I’m thinking some sort of verification system would be necessary.

Anyways I know i’m just some random new guy commenting, but thank you for all the great news this site puts out and I hope to be an active follower and hope we can help each other out in the future! I’ve set up notifications for new posts here, so if anyone is interested in talking about the collectors community idea, please feel free to chat me up!

      • I am part of a Marvel Select group that is filled with people from all over the world. We have a few members who go out of their way to purchase the exclusives just to send them to those collectors. They only charge retail and shipping. To China its a total of $50 bucks or something like that. Its a shame people make a hobby a business practice.

          • Its a facebook group, I posted the link but I don’t think posting a link follows the rules. Just do a search for “Marvel Select Community”. It should be one of the first ones to pop up.

    • “And now i’m just kind of in love with this site cause its really all ive ever needed in my life for a long time…”

      ❤️❤️❤️

      • It’s true! I’ve bought far too many Marvel products in the last 5 years but i never had a news source to know whats coming out, and when! It was always just stumbling across something in the store, or finding it online after it had already been out for a while!

Thank you for your wonderful service to the Marvel community! I now know that I need to start saving some funds for the Summer Marvel Lego Sets and the Age of Ultron Kotobukiyas!

    • Man I totally love that idea. I think you’re really on to something. Another thing is why does an item need to be exclusive to a certain region? I understand exclusive to a certain store or convention. I find it especially ridiculous for a website like the Disney Store who already offer international shipping on most of their products, but when it comes to a few particular items…sorry. Just doesn’t make sense to me.

      • That’s actually pretty strange, i’ve never heard of that before. But I guess i’m kinda sheltered from these things, living in the US. I thought if a site ships international, pretty much any item can be shipped…that’s VERY strange…

But if anyone wants to discuss details about a collectors community being set up that would be great!

It’s especially helpful for those of us that can’t go to comic-con or other conventions while some of us can. I know right now I have tickets from Thurs-Sunday of SDCC 2015. I’m not sure if i’ll be able to make it this year (due to work) but if others are going to be able to make it and would be able to pick up items for some of us, that would be amazing. Last year I got the Captain America kotobukiya. It was only a few months before it was released publicly but it was still nice to finally get!

I also managed to snag one of those exclusive Rocket Raccoon LEGO sets!

        • My favorite SDCC exclusives I have gotten has been the MU Oldman Logan figure and the Return of MArvel Legends Thor in the Mjolnir Packaging. I am not a MOC collector but for the life of me I can not free that Thor from his cardboard prison. The packaging is just killer.

          • Ah Snap I got the Hellboy. At the time I was not able to find Abe. I guess I should start looking again.

  15. He’s an awesome figure. I’ve seen a few over the last couple years for sale at a reasonable price.

  16. Well here we go. Marvel store finally has him up folks! Unfortunately still no international shipping, but hopefully another shop will offer him.

    • My bad, it’s just a really soft plastic : / and figure has very limited articulation but i still love it !
