Funko is the king of exclusive toys in 2014. There’s literally no question about it. Funko quite frankly produces more limited exclusives across their POP! Vinyls, Hikari and Mystery Mini figures in a single year than basically every other major toy company out there all put together. And oftentimes, I love Funko exclusives a whole lot more than I do their regular releases. But sometimes, Funko comes up with an exclusive that is just unspeakably lame. Coming this fall, it’s the second black-and-white Loki in under a year–the Hot Topic Exclusive Funko Black & White Loki POP! Vinyl!
A black & white Loki Funko POP! Vinyls figure (sporting trusty number 36) was released as a Fugitive Toys Exclusive back in November 2013 (and also sold during the 2013 Comikaze convention). That figure was a quick sell-out and has remained reasonably in-demand on the aftermarket ever since.
Of course, that’s all likely to change now, as Funko has just announced another Funko POP Vinyls Black and White Loki figure for release–also sporting number 36. Personally, I think this is a pretty lame move on Funko’s part, and a real kick in the nuts to collectors who paid secondary market prices for the previous Funko Loki black and white variant figure.
How about a metallic Loki, a glow-in-the-dark Loki, or even a crazy flocked Loki, Funko? Anything but a rehash of last year’s exclusive. Funko is one of the most wildly creative toy companies out there, but this Loki figure is really weak as far as originality goes.
The Funko Hot Topic exclusive Black and White Loki POP! Vinyls figure is scheduled to be released at Hot Topic stores and online in September 2014. I’ll post an update here and to the Marvel Toy News Facebook Page once this Loki variant is sighted, so keep your eyes open if this is a variant that you’re interested in adding to your collection (though I may abstain from this one on principle).
What do you think of the latest exclusive Loki Funko POP Vinyl figure, Marvel collectors? Has Funko already given you all the Loki you care for with their panoply of Loki variants over the last year, or are you looking forward to adding another black and white POP! Vinyl Loki to your collection?
