He’s fundamentally similar to the original Hot Toys Captain America The First Avenger MMS, but this time Cap’s got an extra red stripe on his torso–and the first-ever Hot Toys die-cast Captain America shield as an accessory!

If you’re having a sense of deja vu looking at this Hot Toys Captain America Golden Age Movie Promo figure, it’s because it’s cosmetically extremely similar to the first Captain America Hot Toys 1/6th scale figure ever released, based on the original Captain America movie.

Remaining as spoiler-free as possible, let’s just say that Steve Rogers finds an old costume during the course of The Winter Soldier movie and ends up wearing it for a significant chunk of the film. This 1/6 Golden Age Captain America Hot Toys Movie Promo figure captures Captain America as he appears during these key moments of the new Captain America movie.

A quick comparison between the old MMS156 Captain America and the new MMS240 Captain America make the differences between the two Captain America sixth scale figures very apparent. The biggest differences are obviously the extra red stripe on the costume’s chest and the revised belt and straps, although every piece of clothing on the new Hot Toys Golden Age Captain America figure is actually brand-new. Cap’s boots look especially improved to me.

Hot Toys probably made the right decision making this Captain America Golden Age MMS a Movie Promo limited edition, as even though the Hot Toys MMS 156 TFA Captain America was released several years ago, the original Hot Toys Captain America is still cheap and easy to get on the aftermarket for about $200 shipped. There’s (not surprisingly) more demand for the Avengers Hot Toys Captain America figure than there is for the First Avenger Captain America Hot Toys figure.

Not only is the costume on this new Hot Toys Captain America Golden Age Version figure totally different, but MMS240 also comes with a major inclusion that a lot of fans are buzzing about: the first-ever Hot Toys die-cast metal Captain America shield!

After the amazing quality of the Hot Toys Diecast War Machine figure released this winter, fans are dying to get their hands on more diecast Hot Toys items, so this diecast Captain America shield is a pretty big deal. It’s tough to see in photos, but I’m confident that in person the difference in quality and appearance between a plastic shield and a die-cast shield will be very noticeable.

Just about the only thing that I well and truly dislike about the new Hot Toys Captain America The Winter Soldier Golden Age Cap is the head sculpt. Hot Toys has a hard time capturing Chris Evans’ likeness, and I feel like the portrait is still just not quite accurate. It’s not horrid, but it’s still not quite at the level of some of Hot Toys’ other work.

This is a limited Hot Toys Movie Promo figure, and was expected to sell out lightning-fast in the same manner as last year’s Iron Man Mark VII Battle-Damaged figure did. While ample quantities of the Toy Fair exclusive Midas Iron Man figure were available, that was a different type of exclusive than the Hot Toys Golden Age Captain America Movie Promo figure is.

With a low price of $209.99 for a limited edition figure, I genuinely expected this exclusive to sell out in a matter of hours–and it did! After being posted a 1PM EST on Wednesday 3/26/2014, the figure sold out just 12 hours later at about 1AM EST 3/27/2014.

The limited Movie Promo MMS240 Golden Age Captain America Hot Toys figure is now sold out, but you can still get on the Wait List early and very likely have your order fulfilled by Sideshow. With an expected ship date of September 2014. This figure is a limited-edition Sideshow Exclusive release, so it’s not going to be available cheaper from other online retailers.

Based on what I’ve heard and seen about The Winter Soldier, this Golden Age Version Captain America is a definite purchase for me.
