Hot Toys Captain America Star-Spangled Man Exclusive Announced!

“Every bond you buy is a bullet in the barrel of your best guy’s gun!” In honor of Independence Day in the United States–the fourth of July–Hot Toys has announced their first 2013 Toy Fair Exclusive Movie Masterpiece Series figure. I’ve heard fans wishing for all kinds of things from Chitauri to Bruce Banner, but this first reveal is going to be a bit more niche. From “Captain America The First Avenger”, it’s the Hot Toys Captain America Star Spangled Man Sixth-Scale figure!

If you’ve only seen the 2011 Captain America movie once or twice, you may be scratching your head and wondering just what the heck this Hot Toys Captain America Star Spangled Man Version figure is supposed to be. Well, if you think back to the “Captain America The First Avenger” movie, you’ll remember that initially the government didn’t want to deploy Steve Rogers in World War II. Instead, they had Cap going around and doing goofy stage shows to sell war bonds, dubbed as Captain America: The Star-Spangled Man.

Captain America Star Spangled Man ScreenshotIn these scenes, Captain America wears his original comic book-inspired costume, which looks plain ol’ ridiculous in real life. There was even a song-and-dance number that went along with it, and Captain America punching out a fake Hitler. Is it coming back to you? Yeah–it was pretty ludicrous.

I loved it.

The sixth-scale Star Spangled Man Captain America figure is not a total out-of-left field reveal by Hot Toys–they first showed this figure off a year ago, but given that it hasn’t really been mentioned at all since, many collectors assumed this particular Captain America Hot Toys Movie Masterpiece Series figure would never see the light of day due to lack of interest.

Captain America Star Spangled Man Hot Toys Figure Notes on ShieldBy far the single coolest detail of this Captain America is the fact that he has little note cards taped to the inside of his shield that he can use to remember his lines, just like in the movie! This is the sort of minute detail that Hot Toys excels out, and it really makes this figure feel like a genuine Hot Toys figure and not a bootleg Captain America figure wearing pajamas.

Captain America The First Avenger Star Spangled Man ScreenshotIf you’re wondering about the other accessories that the Hot Toys Star Spangled Man Captain America is shown with, they are in fact canon to the Captain America 2011 movie. There was a black-and-white newsreel clip in the movie of Captain America with the ammo clip bandolier and tommy gun, and he also wears the ammo belt later in the movie before he gets into his rescue attire.

Hot Toys Rescue Captain America Exclusive Figure 2012And speaking of the Hot Toys Rescue Captain America figure–that was the 2012 Hot Toys Exclusive Toy Fair sixth-scale figure. And it was for, all intents and purposes, a total flop. A year later, this Hot Toys Captain America Rescue Version figure is still available for its original price on the Sideshow Collectibles website, which is shocking given the popularity of The Avengers and Marvel movie characters in general over the past year.

Given that this an even more obscure version of the movie Captain America, I’m hoping that Hot Toys has decided to limit this Star-Spangled Man Captain America sixth scale figure a bit more so that he doesn’t gather dust on the shelves at Sideshow Collectibles for a year himself.

Captain America Punches Out Hitler in Captain America The First Avenger MovieIt’s a shame that Hot Toys won’t make a Fake Hitler figure for Captain America to punch out, but I think that’s just a little bit too uncomfortable and not in the cards.

This is just the first of several Hot Toys 2013 Toy Fair Exclusive figures, so keep you eyes peeled for more announcements–as well as the price and pre-order date of theStar Spangled Man Captain America figure–in the coming days and weeks. I’ll update with more news and information as it becomes available, and you can also ‘Like’ Marvel Toy News on Facebook to have updates sent straight to your Facebook Newsfeed!
