If you collect Hot Toys Marvel Cinematic Universe figures and are missing one unique character from your collection, odds are that it’s the original, under-produced and highly sought-after Hot Toys Hawkeye figure. See, Hot Toys made the mistake of opening pre-orders for the Hawkeye Hot Toys Avengers MMS figure before any other member of the Avengers and before the movie’s release, and as result Hawkeye MMS 172 has the smallest production number and the highest aftermarket price of the original Hot Toys Avengers. But, rejoice! There is hope on the horizon for those who can’t afford the original–the Hot Toys Avengers Age of Ultron Hawkeye has now been revealed!

Those of you who missed out on the original MMS172 Hawkeye Hot Toys figure–you’re not alone. By the time the other members of the Hot Toys Avengers team started to ship last year, the demand for the 1/6 Hawkeye had exploded–and the prices skyrocketed accordingly, leaving many collectors’ Avengers Hot Toys lineups one man short.

Not wanting to pay aftermarket prices that have ranged from $400-$500 for the past year, a large portion of collectors said they’d wait for the inevitable Hot Toys Avengers 2 Hawkeye figure. And while it’s been a difficult wait, it’s almost over–Hot Toys AOU Hawkeye will arrive in 2015!

Now, what Hot Toys showed at the Hong Kong Toy Soul 2015 event this weekend is far from a completed figure–in fact, Hawkeye is sporting the same head now as he was back in 2012 when Hot Toys released the first Hawkeye sixth scale figure!

That said, I think it’s very unlikely that Hot Toys will do a straight reissue of that Jeremy Renner Hawkeye head. It much, much more likely that Hot Toys was rushing to put together a prototype for this show and was more interested in showing off the new outfit (and body) for this Hawkeye figure than that they’re planning to actually give us the same Hawkeye Jeremy Renner portrait again.

So what’s new about this Avengers AOU Hot Toys Hawkeye figure? Well, obviously Hawkeye is in his new costume, of which the most significant part is his new long coat/vest. The vest has a zipper on it–is it possible that we’ll be able to unzip and remove the vest to create Hawkeye’s other look from Age of Ultron? I sort of doubt it, but it would definitely be an amazing value if we could!

The other thing that really stands out to me about this prototype is the much-needed double-jointed elbows on the new body being used for Hawkeye. Thanks, Hot Toys! Once we get a new head sculpt, this is going to be one terrific sixth scale Hawkeye figure!

The Hot Toys Avengers Age of Ultron Hawkeye figure is expected to go up for order in Spring 2015 during the lead-up to (or launch window of) the Avengers: Age of Ultron movie.
