Today’s the day that the pre-summer blockbuster “Avengers: Age of Ultron” movie finally hits theaters in Europe and other parts of the world that aren’t the United States! And what better way to celebrate the first day of release for the second Avengers movie than with an all-new sixth scale figure of the first form of the movie’s ultimate evil: Ultron! The ultra-creepy, robot zombie-looking Hot Toys Ultron Mark I figure is now up for order!

I thought it had been a little bit quiet lately on the Hot Toys Marvel front. And by quiet, I mean “We haven’t had a new figure from Avengers Age of Ultron go up for order yet this week.” So when I woke up this morning to see a gallery of official photos had been posted by Hot Toys as a portent of a pre-order yet to come today, I was hardly surprised.

But while the odds-on favorite character as far as “most likely to go up for pre-order next” seemed like it would be the Hot Toys Age of Ultron Thor figure (the final member of the core Avengers not up for order in his costume from the new movie), Hot Toys has thrown us a curveball in the form of a figure that is 100% newly-tooled and 100% awesome (scary–but awesome): Ultron Mark I!

Unlike the majority of the Hot Toys Avengers Age of Ultron Movie Masterpiece Series figures that have gone up for order thus far, the Mark 1 Ultron couldn’t be achieved solely by dressing up an existing sixth scale figure body. Instead, Hot Toys had to develop an entirely new nearly 13″ sculpt for Ultron that doesn’t share tooling with any previously-released Hot Toys figure.

As a result of having a totally unique mold, MMS292 Ultron Mark I has one of the most hyper-detailed bodies and most elaborate paint schemes of any Marvel figure that Hot Toys has ever released! I know I rave about Hot Toys a lot, but that’s because they keep on upping their game with tremendous new figures like this Ultron Mark 1!

Hot Toys MMS 292 Ultron Mark I will be priced at $249.99 in the United States. That’s a number that would give many collectors not accustomed to high-end prices a heart attack, but I think it’s pretty reasonable when you take into consideration that this is an all-new, 12.8″ fully articulated 1/6th scale figure with LED functions and unbelievable paint and sculpting detail.

As with the rest of the figures in the Avengers Age of Ultron Hot Toys lineup, Ultron Mk I will include a matching Avengers AOU display base with his name on the plate on the front of the base, as well as a very cool bonus accessory–a damaged Iron Legion!

The damaged Iron Legion drone accessory is still in-development, so there’s only concept art shown of it at this time, but I think we’ve all seen enough Hot Toys Iron Man figures by now to have a pretty fair idea of what the damaged Iron Legion armor is going to look like.

The Hot Toys MMS 292 Ultron Mark I figure is now available for order, and is expected to be released in mid-2016. This figure doesn’t use an existing body as a base and requires entirely new tooling to be created at the factory, so it’s unlikely that this particular figure will jump forward too far in the release schedule. I bet this figure does manage to beat the monstrous Hot Toys Hulkbuster Iron Man figure out of production, though!
