Up until now, every single character that Kotobukiya has released as part of their 1/10 scale Marvel ARTFX+ statues range has been a classic, decades-old character. But there’s a first time for everything, and the first modern-created character to grace this style is about to arrive as the second entry in the Spider-Man ARTFX+ Series! He swung into our hearts five years ago this month, and now he’s web-slinging into our statue collections–the Kotobukiya Spider-Man Miles Morales ARTFX+ Statue is now up for order!

A lot of people (including some of my friends, sadly) flipped out a few years ago when Marvel revealed that Brian Michael Bendis was planning to kill Ultimate Peter Parker and replace him with bi-racial Spider-Man Miles Morales. But fast forward to the future, and Miles Morales has not only exploded in popularity, but even resides within the Prime Earth of the Marvel Comics Universe alongside the original Peter Parker himself!

And having won over the masses, it’s finally time for Miles Morales to get his first-ever statue, care of Kotobukiya!

This Koto Miles Morales statue actually debuted at the Kotobukiya booth at San Diego Comic-Con 2016 last month, but since his pre-order date was imminent, I figured I might as well wait to talk about him until he went up for order.

Just like the first statue in this series–Spider-Man himself–Miles Morales is captured in a crouching pose for this figure, and is preparing to shoot a web-line forward. While the pose on Miles is rather similar to that of Peter Parker, it’s a 100% unique sculpt. The black and red costume is very distinct and will stand out on display as being very different from the Peter Parker Spider-Man statue.

I kind of feel like someone should make a “dat ass” reference about this statue, looking at the above photo of it from behind (no pun intended), but alas, I’m just not good at that manner of humor myself.

As he’s in a crouching pose, this Miles statue will be a little bit on the small size height-wise. The statue will be just over 4″ tall on its base (which, along with Miles’ feet, will be magnetic to keep Miles firmly affixed).

Just like the previous two series of Kotobukiya ARTFX+ statues (the Marvel NOW! Avengers and X-Men), the Miles Morales statue has been crafted by the legendary sculptor Junnosuke Abe.

What is a little bit different about this series, however, is the bases–rather than the square black bases we’ve become accustomed to, the Spider-Man series seem to have round, pedestal-like bases. While I was pretty bored with the plain rectangle bases, I’m a bit wary of how a bunch of these circular bases are going to look pushed together on display. Hmm.

The Miles Morales Spider-Man Kotobukiya ARTFX+ Statue is now up for order, and is scheduled to be released in early 2017. I’ve seen estimated dates from January to April cited by various retailers, so it’s still a bit up in the air exactly when everyone’s second-favorite (okay, maybe third- or fourth-favorite) Spider-Man will arrive in statue form.
