While all eyes this week have been turned toward California (and a galaxy far, far away) for this year’s long-awaited Star Wars Celebration Anaheim, the world has kept on slowly turning for Marvel collectors as well. A number of new items have gone up for order, including a product that’s been in development for literally years: the long-overdue X-Men Danger Room Sessions Rogue Kotobukiya statue!
Though she’s a longtime member of the X-Men (and now the Avengers), with many different outfits over the years, Rogue will always be best-remembered in the iconic Jim Lee Rogue costume featured in the original X-Men animated series.
And so, it’s only fitting that the Rogue Kotobukiya has captured is in her beloved Jim Lee outfit, complete with flowing long hair. This is “my” Rogue, so I’m overjoyed by Kotobukiya’s costume choice.
But for those who prefer their Rogues a little more modern, Koto hasn’t forgotten you either! A whole alternate head depicting Rogue with short hair is included with this statue, which looks pretty slick overall (although something about her expression seems a bit ‘Stepford Wives’ to me).
The Erick Sosa Rogue statue comes on a heavily-detailed, gorgeous Sentinel hand base. The shiny purple paint used for this Sentinel base really pops, and it also creates a natural place for Rogue to “connect” to the base while still looking like she’s flying. The illusion doesn’t totally work, but it’s convincing enough at a glance.
While I’m not thrilled with the price on the Koto Rogue either, I’m “okay” with it due to the humongous base and alternate head that comes with Rogue. I definitely would have preferred a bit cheaper, but I can understand the rationale behind the pricing on this piece.
The Kotobukiya Rogue Danger Room Sessions statue is now available for pre-order, and is expected to be released in December 2015. BBTS has an early-bird $20 discount on the statue, while EE is offering free shipping. I’m not sure which one will ultimately be the better deal, but I suspect they’ll end up being pretty equivocal overall.
How do you like the Rogue statue Kotobukiya has been working on for the last several years, Marvel collectors? Is the finished product worth all of the development time and waiting, or are you disappointed in what Koto has come up with for the X-Men’s southern belle?
