As it turns out, LEGO was a lot more successful with prohibiting photos of the upcoming LEGO Guardians of the Galaxy sets at Toy Fair 2014 than I expected them to be! Marvel did not want LEGO to allow photography of the Summer 2014 LEGO Guardians of the Galaxy sets, and as such no one was permitted to take photos. Of course, it was only a matter of time until some images leaked anyway, and now we can share a first look at the Guardians of the Galaxy LEGO Knowhere Escape Mission 76020!
LEGO 76020 consists of a tower floating over lava with a missile launcher at the top, a weird spherical vehicle with claws attached to it for Rocket Raccoon to pilot, and a buildable LEGO Groot figure. The big attraction here is obviously the brick-built LEGO Groot “minifigure” (which I don’t think can really be considered a minifigure at all), who is positively massive and will tower over every other LEGO Marvel figures ever released (except perhaps for the upcoming LEGO Sentinel).
In addition to Groot, the set will contain three more Guardians of the Galaxy LEGO minifigures: a LEGO Rocket Raccoon minifigure, a LEGO Nebula minifigure and a LEGO Sakaaran Soldier minifigure. It’s a bit tough to see from the images, but the Rocket Raccoon LEGO figure is absolutely adorable. Rocket and Nebula are both exclusive to this LEGO GOTG set.
The LEGO Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy 76020 Knowhere Escape Mission set will contain 433 pieces at a cost of $39.99. That works out to be about nine cents per brick, putting the set squarely into my “sweet spot” realm of ten cents per piece of less. Considering that this set contains four minifigures–three of which exclusive–that makes this set a terrific value.
The 76020 LEGO Guardians of the Galaxy Knowhere Escape Mission set is scheduled to be released in June 2014. I’ll post hi-res images of the set once LEGO is allowed to officially release them, and you can ‘Like’ Marvel Toy News on Facebook to have future news, photos and updates sent right to your Facebook Newsfeed.
Obviously it may be too early to make decisions about the quality of the LEGO Knowhere Escape Mission set based off these ultra low-res photos, but LEGO had my money regardless as soon as I saw LEGO Groot and Rocket Raccoon figures. What about you, Marvel fans? Do the early information and terrible photos of this set have your attention?
