Marvel Legends Abomination Build-A-Figure Photos!

What with how Hasbro has to-date only revealed two of the six figures in the 2016 Marvel Legends Captain America Wave 3 officially, it’s no surprise they haven’t shown off the Marvel Legends Abomination Build-A-Figure yet at all. Even so, this wave is now hitting overseas and finding its way into collectors’ hands–which means that we’re now getting our first good look at the figures in the series out of their packaging and the completed Abomination figure…

…And so, the last of the Marvel Legends figures that we saw concept art for at San Diego Comic-Con 2015 has been released.

I thought–and still do think–that it’s a weird decision to release this Marvel Legends Abomination BAF simultaneously in both the SDCC 2016 Exclusive Marvel Legends The Raft set and as the Build-A-Figure of the third series of Captain America Legends, but I suppose Hasbro works in mysterious ways.

In these new photos taken by Dave Bronx (thanks for giving me permission to run your photos, Dave!), we can see exactly how large Abomination is and how he compares to the previously-released Rhino Build-A-Figure.

While the Abomination arms and legs are reused from the Rhino mold, the torso has clearly been retooled to differentiate it from Rhino’s and the head is totally different (obviously). Abomination’s hands are inherited from the 2015 Ultimate Green Goblin Build-A-Figure.

When compared to the Marvel Select Abomination and Toybiz Abomination, we can see that the Build-A-Figure Abomination looks kind of puny by comparison, alas.

Hasbro went for a lighter and very different paint scheme than we’re used to for this Abomination action figure, and while I appreciate trying to make this iteration look different, I just don’t like the aesthetic as much personally.

The Hasbro 2016 Abomination Marvel Legends figure is also undersized in comparison to most Legends Hulk figures produced.

As detailed as the sculpt is, it’s really pretty unfortunate that Abomination simply does not look big enough to be a threat to the Hulk this time out.

What do you think of the new Hasbro Abomination Build-A-Figure, Marvel collectors? Will you be picking up all six figures in the Marvel Legends Captain America 2016 Wave 3 set specifically to build him, or are you passing on trying to build the latest version of the Hulk’s arch-nemesis?

  1. The Marvel Select version is all you need. Aside from less articulation then the ML series- Nothing can top Marvel Selects Abomination-

  2. Been holding out on getting an Abomination to see what the BAF was like.
    ….I’m unimpressed.
Looks like it’s the Marvel Select Abomination for me, as I suspected.

This one looks cool, except for the blue underwear and the fact that he’s tiny (especially since my Hulk is Marvel Select Avengers Hulk). And the Rhino articulation is good, but not exactly solidly beyond what Select Abomination can do.

I’m on the verge of cancelling my order for this wave, but Scarlet Witch, Captain Britain, and Wonderman I don’t want to fight for…..
    Eh…
    Eh……
    Ehhhhh…….

  3. I already have the pretty cool Toybiz version and that awesomely huge Marvel Select version. I thought about getting this one, but after seeing your comparison photo realized I just don’t need it. It’s just not that impressive. Thanks for saving me the effort of tracking all the pieces down.

  4. Maaaan, there goes my motivation for buying anyone other than Wanda and Iron Skull from this wave. If I need ol’ Blonsky, I’ll just grab the Select version- not like that’s hard to find, apparently.

I’ll always welcome big, ugly-looking bad guys into my ranks, but this particular one looks like he just won’t be worth the effort. Which sucks, because most of this wave I PROMISE is going to rot on pegs for months after we’ve gotten waves beyond this lackluster one.

[heavy, deliberate sigh] You could have given us a new Winter Soldier, Hasbro. Or a new Black Widow, or Falcon, or any number of Cap mainstays. But instead, you gave us Captain Britain, and… Eel. And an iteration of Red Skull from… an animated show. And no comics.

I don’t get you sometimes, Hasbro. This wave was just… ill-advised.

    • We’re already getting new movie Winter Soldier and Falcon figures, although I agree updated comic Falcon and Black Widow figures would be nice. Maybe replace Iron Skull with Black Widow and Eel with classic comic Falcon and it would be a more popular wave.

      • I know we are. And as much as I’m looking forward to them, movie versions don’t count. Or at least, they don’t fill the holes in my comic displays where these essential characters should be.

I mean, personally I’m relatively sated by Hasbro putting out Sam Wilson Captain America- it’s current, relevant, and it’s a good figure- but Hasbro has never put out a comic Sam Wilson Falcon figure in the 6-inch scale, and until the Civil War exclusives and TRU exclusive set hit, Hasbro hadn’t tried for a 6-inch scale Sam Wilson at all. SUPER uncool. And the last Black Widow and Winter Soldier we got were in those TRU 2-packs, which almost all feature outdated sculpts and command ridiculous aftermarket prices, ESPECIALLY Bucky and Nat. I think we’re due for a new comic Winter Soldier and Black Widow.

  5. I think the BAF looks good. Im not a fan of the blue panties but imo it compares just fine to other 6inch figures.

    • Dont get me wrong…this BAF wave let me down. Scarlet Witch, Wonderman and Iron Skull are figures i really want but will probably pass on.

  6. They shouldv just made him an Abomb, as it was initially tjought of as being- in the early photos. That wouldv been awsome, and wouldve probably built up more hype for this wave.- just my opinion, anyway-

  7. I will have to get the guys individually. I will stick to my Abomination from Toybiz.

  8. I find this B.A.F. pretty underwhelming. It’s disappointing when a Build-A-Figure is smaller than the previous version…that fit in the packaging by itself!!! Here’s the crazy thing; He’s NOT undersized!!! When compared to both the Face-Off and MCU Hulks, he’s slightly shorter and the thing is he’s supposed to be!!! Blonsky is 6’8 against comic Hulk’s 7′-7′.6″ , and who knows how big the movie guy is, so technically, Hasbro got it right, but to most of us (including me, and I’m a stickler for accuracy, but wanted him bigger this go round) they got it wrong. I’m hoping the SDCC exclusive has a different (better) color scheme than this. I guess we don’t need a B.A.F. version of the Hulk after all. Doesn’t throw any of the other Hulk scaled figures out of whack either (like the Wendigo etc).

  9. To be fair, Abomination’s official height in the comics is like 7’8″, but yeah. He should be bigger IMO. That’s the one thing holding it back because as a figure he is way better than the others. Also his hands are new, not from green goblin. I love his paint. It looks even more detailed than the select. But I don’t know why Hasbro had to make him small just to be able to reuse 2 parts in each arm and 2 in each leg. Who not just make a bigger, all-new mold? Smh. Either way I think he is on the level of the select one but not better or worse. What the select lacks in articulation, it makes up for in size. And what this one lacks in size, it makes up for with articulation. And a better paint job in my opinion

  10. looks more like the starjammers Chod (no clue as to where the apostrophe goes) than an abomination.

    • In between the “h” and “o”. And you’re right. When I first saw him, I thought it looked more like Ch’od than Emil.

  11. You could always use him as “CHOD”, from the “STAR JAMMERS”-lol. Blue tights and all-

  12. I agree also with some post here, good points indeed. Also on the blue trunks Abomination is wearing, yeah back in the day he actually wore them. So, i’ll take the trunks as a nod to a more classic version of him from the past. The DS version is awesome for sure, great looking figure. But my biggest disappointment with that one was the fact that they messed up his feet. “if only they had went with the two-toed ones lol” Overall, though the BAF may be a tad small its still a awesome version of him and its been far to long for a new updated version from the original ML version in my opinion at least.

    • So from measurements I’ve seen on youtube video’s, from the likes of Shartimus prime and such, its said Rhino is 8 1/2″ to the top of his horn roughly. So, I would estimate Abomination to be 8 1/4″ or so to the top of his head, once again, roughly lol. So if this holds true, hes not really as small as the pics make him look to be I think, just guessing and estimating though:) If he does manage to come in around that height, he won’t be bad at all I think overall. These pics look off some since the surface looks uneven, you can see under both sides of the background in a few pics that are zoomed out showing like 3 figures. So its only a rough guess really. I guess we’ll just have to hold out and wait to see how big it really will be in the end. Just food for thought;)

      • Personally, my advice….be patient and wait. Don’t be judgemental until we get some real pics that matter. Myself it’s still up in the air on this one and, some up to date size comparison’s:)

  13. I’m in the same boat as most posters: I like the sculpt, but the size just doesn’t cut it.

Tangentially relevant, since this Abomination is essentially built on the Rhino BAF: I have found the Rhino BAF to be weird-looking. Head’s way too big. Body too broad. Overall he looks out of place with most Legends figures, but especially next to bulky guys like Hulk. For that reason I have replaced the Rhino BAF with my old Fearsome Foes one in my display.

    Newer isn’t always better. -_-

    • Abomination is only supposed to be ~6’8″, so this height isn’t as bad as it seems.

      • We went through this with the Thanos B.A.F. He’s 6’7, but everyone screamed “too small”, and he measures up well next to the likes of Odin and the various (oversized) Thors.

  14. Even though the MS is my favorite, im still gonna pick this 1 up. Its a disappointment- but hes my favorite hulk villin- so I gots to have him-lol
