Marvel Legends Doctor Strange Movie Packaged Photos!

While we saw well over a dozen new Marvel Legends 2017 figures at San Diego Comic-Con last month (some of which may arrive at the end of 2016), there’s still one full series of official 2016 figures on the way: the Marvel Legends Doctor Strange movie series! I posted packaged photos of Enchantress and Astral Dr. Strange yesterday, but now let’s take a look at the rest of the Dormammu Build-A-Figure wave in hi-res photos glory…

Marvel Legends 2016 Doctor Strange Figure

For whatever reason, Hasbro chose not to play all their cards at New York Toy Fair 2016 and San Diego Comic-Con 2016, showing only a few new figures from the Doctor Strange movie wave at each show.

But with just a few weeks until the series goes up for order, finally we know everything about the Dormammu Series!

Last year’s comic-based Dr. Strange six-inch figure returns in this wave with a new cape, a new paint job, different gloves and different-colored effects pieces. This is an “okay” refresh, but I’d rather have an “All-New” Doctor Strange figure from his solo series, honestly.

Marvel Legends Doctor Strange Movie Figure PackagedThat said, the movie Doctor Strange Marvel Legends figure is so nice, Hasbro is giving it to us twice, with both regular and Astral Form Strange figures available!

With an immensely-cool rune effects piece, interchangeable spell-casting hands and a terrific Benedict Cumberbatch likeness, it’s a real shame that this Hasbro Doctor Strange movie figure is going to be packed at one-per-case–I predict this will end up being a real tough grab in stores come fall.

Doctor Strange Marvel Legends Astral Form Figure PackagedThe translucent Astral Plane Dr. Strange figure actually looks really neat, but besides paint deco, he also loses all of the accessories from the regular Stephen Strange movie figure–the rune, the interchangeable hands and even the cape!

Even so, the Marvel Legends Astral Doctor Strange figure is the only figure that will include the Dormammu head, so anyone who wants to build Dormammu is obligated to buy him–like it or not.

Marvel Legends Karl Mordo Figure PackagedThe third and final movie figure is Karl Mordo. This figure looks really good, but there’s no telling how popular or significant Mordo will be in the actual movie.

If nothing else, though, Karl Mordo looks like a terrific action figure and comes with the most eye-catching Dormammu pieces!

Marvel Legends Enchantress Packaged Hi-ResI talked about the single-packed Enchantress repaint figure yesterday, but it’s worth reiterating that this figure’s paint apps are very different from those of the SDCC 2016 iteration. I’ve heard many collectors on both sides of the fence voicing their opinions on which Amora is better, so the SDCC exclusive Enchantess may end up retaining its value after all.

Marvel Legends Doctor Voodoo Figure PackagedDoctor Voodoo (AKA Brother Voodoo) makes his six-inch figure return this fall after having previously only been available in last year’s Book of Vishanti set.

I honestly think repacking the Marvel Legends Magik figure in this wave would have been a far better choice from both sales and popularity standpoints, but as Brother Voodoo is necessary for his Dormammu BAF piece, he should (hopefully) sell just fine.

Marvel Legends Nico Minoru Figure Packaged

We can now mark Marvel Legends Nico Minoru (AKA Sister Grimm) of the Runaways off the list of Hasbro figures I never expected to see produced. The stockings and magic effects arm look terrific, though I swear the Staff of One is vastly undersized.

Two things strike me as weird about the new Marvel Legends Iron Fist figure: one is seeing a gigantic “Iron Fist” logo on the packaging of a figure in the Doctor Strange series, and the other is seeing another Iron Fist 6″ figure at all after just getting one last year.

That said, the green costume is iconic for many fans of Danny Rand, and the flaming fist effects pieces and different body mold make this figure a must-have redo for collectors disappointed in last year’s version.

Marvel Legends Doctor Strange Iron Fist Figure PackagedThe Marvel Legends Doctor Strange movie series is expected to go up for pre-order within a month, and should be arriving in early fall. As this is an eight-figure case with one of each figure, I suspect this series will sell through quickly. I’ll post updates to the Marvel Toy News Facebook and Twitter Pages when these go up for sale, so stay tuned.

Having now seen all eight figures that will come equally packed at one to a case, what do you think of the Doctor Strange Marvel Legends movie series, Marvel collectors? Are you planning to buy a whole case to build Dormammu, aiming only for your favorites, or skipping this wave altogether?

  1. Wow! I didn’t know Nico’s code name (Sister Grimm). Like Marvel Girl / Phoenix, Shadow Cat, Yellow Jacket / Giant Man / Ant-Man (Hank Pym), and Psyche / Mirage (Dani Moonstar), I mistook Nico for being another one of those heroes whose code name, if she ever had one, had been lost to time.

  2. A brother voodoo and nico’s mom were both in Doctor Strange movie prequel comics, implying they may appear in actual movie as well, hence their inclusion may be coordinated synergy move.

    • Judging from the top of the packages, I am betting that Voodoo is in the movie. He has the same symbol on his package as the rest of the Doctor Strange figures, whereas the Nico/Amora “Mystic Rivals” box just has MARVEL on the top.

      • JERICHO DRUMM (THIS Brother Voodoo) figure has the same logo treatment as the COMIC version of Doctor Strange, along with the COMIC Logo.

The figures with MOVIE logos are in the film.

That’s not to say that A Drumm brother (Daniel is in the prequel comics) won’t at least be mentioned or make an appearance.

Same for A Minoru. Nico’s mom is in the prequel comic also.

All in all, a nice set of figures, and I’m happy to not have to pay crazy money for Enchantress.

  3. I thought there was going to be an Ancient One figure.
And wasn’t there mention of a walgreens exclusive?

I’ll be ordering TWO cases, regardless.
One to open. One to display.

    • The Ancient One’s UPC code was changed to Enchantress. It’s not impossible that an Ancient One will be released as an exclusive somewhere, but I’d say the odds on that are pretty long.

  4. I still can’t get over all of the SDCC exclusive figure repaints Hasbro has been doing. OOF. If your going to re-release the majority of the Book of Vishanti set, they should have re-released Magik either in Xmen wave or this one. I will say that I never buy MCU figures but this Dr. Strange movie figure is almost too amazing to pass up!

  5. I love Doctor Voodoo but wish he was repainted into his current Uncanny Avengers costume, this figure just feels lazy.

    • Agreed! It’s so similar to the SDCC version. It would’ve been a simple repaint to update the costume, and casting the cape in purple instead of red. Done.

  6. is it just me or are the BAF hands on the wrong arms in the individual packaging? From the direction of the elbows, the left hand looks like it is on the right arm and vice versa.

      • LOL she is!? I don’t follow the runaways but she always look like a white Goth girl the way she’s drawn. The toy doesn’t look Asian either. Oh well.

        • Some artists can pull it off. Others… not so much. I feel that a marker for a truly great artist is when they can differentiate characters based on race.
Also, I’m pretty disappointed they couldn’t have managed to sculpt her to look Japanese like she’s supposed to be. She really does just look like a white goth chick.

    • The sorcery that Doctor Strange was taught from the Ancient One is no more Asian than Goku shooting kame-hame-wave fireballs or Lord Raiden from Mortal Kombat.

Sadly, there never was any actual “Asian” philosophy or mysticism as a part of the Canon.

      • No, not really. Aside from Asian looking attires, they loosely connected the Iron Fist’s dragon and the Phoenix force to the Asian mythological beasts. Dr. Strange… Fin Fang Foom and the Mandarin… Facepalm.

        • Iron Fist is definitely steeped in “Asian Mysticism” but Doctor Strange wasn’t as much initially. That book was more about being psychedelic and far-out.

Fin Fang Foom and Mandarin were Iron Man villains first.

  7. So in the movie…who is the guy with the distorted eyes? I thought Mordo was the villain..until I watched the new trailer. I’m unfamiliar with Dr. Strange in the comics except when he appeared with the Defenders. I thought his main villains were Mordo, Umar and Dormammu and Clea was his love interest.

    • MADS plays a VERY minor villain named Kaeciliis, who was a minion of Mordo.
He only appeared in three storylines.
Hasn’t been seen since DOCTOR STRANGE: Master of the Mystic Arts #56 in the early 1980s.

  8. Man i hope that iron fist has good hip articulation and can fit the hands that came with the Allfather wave Iron fist. How great would that be?
