Marvel Legends Mysterio Retro Exclusive 6” Figure Up for Order! (2020 Spider-Man)

It’s been quiet times as of late, but Hasbro has finally broken the silence with a reveal today that ought to make some noise amongst collectors of Marvel 6″ figures: an Exclusive Marvel Legends Mysterio figure in Retro Packaging is now up for order! Many fans missed the comic book-based Mysterio that came out two years back–and that figure now sells for hefty prices on the aftermarket–so I imagine this updated version of Spider-Man Legends Mysterio is definitely going to excite plenty of fans missing this classic villain from their collections!

Marvel Legends Mysterio Exclusive Spider-Man Retro Series Figure

Although Hasbro did a small re-issue of the Marvel Legends Lizard Series Mysterio that they released back in 2018, they were never able to fully satisfy demand for this iconic supervillain–especially not with the hype generated by his (then future) major role in the Spider-Man Far From Home movie.

As such, the cost of that comic Mysterio figure has really skyrocketed on the aftermarket, where he now sells for up to 70 bucks. Not exactly accessible to new collectors or those who never found him at retail!

Marvel Legends 2018 and 2020 Mysterio Figures Comparison

Thankfully, Hasbro is giving fans another chance, while also slightly remixing the figure for those who already have the original version. This new Marvel Legends Mysterio Exclusive 6″ figure features an almost entirely overhauled color scheme, with even the smoke effects pieces in new colors!

The gold accents on the costume and more maroon cape just feel so much more “classic” to me. While I was very pleased with the first release of this mold by Hasbro in Lizard BAF wave, this repainted version looks like a monumental improvement to me and a must-have.

Spider-Man Retro Series Marvel Legends Mysterio Cardback

Although I really dig like the Lizard Build-A-Figure Series Mysterio action figure, I have to admit–I like this repaint quite a bit more! Add in the new Toybiz-styled Retro packaging, and I’m totally sold. Nice work, Hasbro! It’s just a prediction, but I suspect the majority of collectors who already have the Mysterio Lizard Series figure are going to opt to upgrade to this new version as well.

Marvel Legends 2020 Gwen Stacy Spider-Man Retro Series Figure Packaged

Mysterio is part of this year’s 2020 Marvel Legends Spider-Man Retro series theme that debuted at New York Toy Fair 2020 in February, although Mysterio is a Fan Channel Exclusive with a limited release and not a part of that actual wave. Other figures announced for the wave thus far are Gwen Stacy (with Mary Jane interchangeable head), Peter Parker and a new ultra-poseable Spider-Man.

Close-Up of 2020 Marvel Legends Mysterio Exclusive Retro Figure

The Exclusive Marvel Legends Retro Mysterio is now available for order, and is scheduled to ship out this fall. The rest of the Spider-Man Legends Retro Series will presumably be released around this timeframe as well, although the rest of the wave will be in retail stores like Target and Walmart and Mysterio will not.

What do you think of this repainted Exclusive Mysterio Legends figure, Marvel collectors? Is this a worthwhile upgrade to the first release from 2018? If you already have the original version of this figure, will you buy it again for the new deco and retro packaging?

Marvel Legends Mysterio Retro Exclusive 6” Figure Up for Order! (2020 Spider-Man) — 13 Comments

  1. I was fortunate enough to get a Mysterio the first go round. I had to stalk Amazon frequently to nab him. So, easy pass for me this go round.

  2. I’m not a fan of most of Spider-Man’s rogues gallery, but dang if those colors don’t pop! I ordered one and will silently await the remainder of the Retro wave.
    Also, stay safe everyone.

  3. I had the Lizard Wave Mysterio, but traded it. I regret it now so I decided to order this new one to make up for it !

  4. This version is much more classic comic looking when compared to the previous one, so I preordered mine right away!

    • ?? His comic appearances generally have him with green gloves, rather than gold ones. My understanding is that this color scheme comes from the 90s spidey cartoon (and of course the FFH movie)

  5. Oh FFS, FY hasbro

This is the 3rd release of the same damn figure. I’m so sick of them doing this. “But I didn’t get one the first time”.. literally could not care less. I’m tired of bending over backwards to get releases when they come out only for them to do it slightly better and rerelease it a month later. Now this? Middle finger to Hasbro. You can stick this right back up your shartimus port.

    • ?? The original came out in winter 2018, its been 2 years, not a month. And i wouldn’t say this version is “slightly better” than the previous, i prefer the original’s costume colors over this version’s.

That said, in my experience there are fewer folks who “missed out” the 1st time around than you would think based on complaints online, so i suspect there will be plenty of extras of this figure to be had, especially in the current economy.

    • Don´t like? Don´t buy. Unless if someone is holding you at gunpoint and forces you to buy every single subline Hasbro makes for Legends… Self entitled snowflake..

  6. While i find the color scheme on the new version kinda ugly, definitely a nice option for anyone who couldn’t get ahold of the Lizard wave mysterio. However, I’m guessing most people who wanted a comic Mysterio figure actually did get the previous version and that this new one will end up discounted. I could definitely be wrong, though.

  7. I’m in love with this reveal and it’s an instant buy but I won’t be replacing the Lizard wave Mysterio because i have too much of an emotional connection with him. During the time when the wave was reported to be hitting retail i had no vehicle. I asked friends and family for rides, took the city buses three times each week traveling to every walmart, target, gamestop, and Walgreens i could. When i went on trips and vacations to other cities i made it a point to visit the local walmarts and Walgreens. I hunted for him at retail for six months before giving up. I wasn’t really an order online person at the time and i found the $27 preorder from gamestop hard to swallow when it was still available early on. It immediately sold out everywhere and i regretted not being willing to pay a little inflation knowing that he was being sold on ebay for above $40 new. Salvation came that September when my mom calls me and says that a new walmart was made near her and the grand opening was happening the following day. I figured new store, new stock with maybe the slightest possibility of a fresh case of the lizard wave. I was there ten in the morning with the rest of the massive crowd and the djs when they finally opened the doors. I wanted to absorb the new scene but i knew I’d better bolt to the toy section. My heart sank as i saw a bunch of middle-aged men in the aisle and i figured it was possibly too late. Then i realized these guys were all crowded together trying to get at the fresh untouched hot wheels which i couldn’t care less about so i just said excuse me and made my way to the end of the aisle and finally there he was. My eyes teared up a little seeing Mysterio there on the rack and i immediately snatched it and held tight to it like a football, as if someone may be savage enough to try and take it from me. It took half a year of searching and the building of a new walmart for me to finally get my Mysterio in what i consider my last true hunt.

    • Now THAT’s a true toy hunter story. Well done and congratulations! With all the Toys-R-Us closed and my local WalMart a disheveled unstocked mess, I really miss experiences like that.

  8. I missed all the previous versions of this figure so it’s a sale for me. I’d rather I grabbed the Lizard version when on the original market but times have changed with that figure and the Noir and Punk takes to boot. Rather this version than missing parts to my Lizard BAF…although it could be pulled off. 🙂
