Marvel Legends Spider-Man 2016 Wave 3 Photos! Electro!

You wouldn’t know it based off the hype levels, but believe it or not, there’s actually a third series of Hasbro Marvel Legends 6″ figures that went up for order this week–a series that’s flying under the radar because it doesn’t contain any X-Men or movie Scarlet Witch figures. The Marvel Legends Spider-Man 2016 Wave 3 series isn’t even getting much of a push yet from Hasbro, but finally we’ve got some decent pictures of the wave from a Taiwanese event…

Marvel Legends 2016 Spider-Man Wave 3 Punisher Electro Miles Morales

I don’t know if Hasbro is just caught up with all of the excitement of the X-Men Legends Series or what, but the Captain America Civil War Legends and Spider-Man Legends sets that also went up for order this week are getting sadly neglected as far as official photos go.

The Civil War wave is strong enough to stand on its own (mostly because of that Scarlet Witch movie figure), but the Space Venom series really needs some love.

And while Hasbro hasn’t sent out the official images yet, we finally got a good look at Electro, Punisher and more from the series from the Geek-Base Facebook Page and Marvelous News, who were covering a Taiwanese event where the figures were on display and took a couple photos.

Marvel Legends Electro Figure Space Venom SeriesThe really big surprise here is the new Marvel Legends Electro figure, which I’ve got a bad feeling is really going to break a lot of hearts.

While the only image we’d seen of Electro before–from his own cardback–made this look like a straight-up classic Electro, that’s far from reality. This is actually a modern Electro as he appeared in the first issues of the previous Amazing Spider-Man comic book series.

While I always like getting modern versions of characters, I hated the “tattooed head” version of Electro on sight in the comics, and I don’t dig the colors of his costume at all (especially the black gloves and pants). While we do get an interchangeable classic masked Electro head here, it doesn’t really jive with the costume chosen. And with no non-energy effects alternate hands for Electro, I can see this figure really bumming out a lot of folks.

Marvel Legends Silk and Hobgoblin Alternate HeadsOn the bright side, nothing else in the wave seems particularly disappointed. In fact, it looks like we’re getting alternate heads all over the place, with interchangeable unmasked heads for Cindy Moon, Miles Morales Spider-Man and teenage Peter Parker!

All three heads look fantastic from what we can see in the photos. Hobgoblin and Jim Lee Punisher also get alternate heads, leaving poor Spider-B*¥€# all alone without one. Alas.

The Space Venom Build-A-Figure is proving to be very divisive with collectors from what I’ve heard so far. I think it’s a cool figure, but it’s also of a character whose book is about ready to hit the cancellation chopping block after under a year. We’ll have to see how pumped for this Marvel Legends Space Knight Venom figure people are when this wave actually hits.

I love how short the new teenage boy Marvel Legends mold is! Ultimate Spider-Man Peter Parker looks awesome standing next to the Walgreens Exclusive Punisher figure!

Marvel Legends 2016 Punisher and Ultimate Spider-Man FiguresThe 2016 Marvel Legends Spider-Man Wave 3 is now up for order, and is scheduled to ship in June/July 2016 (yes, that’s this month or next month). Miles and Ultimate Spider-Man are wisely double-packed, but if you’re wanting the other characters–who are all one-per-case–you may want to order online.

Having seen some more photos of the Spider-Man Legends Space Venom Series, are you warming up to this wave, Marvel collectors? Are you going for the full set, picking-and-choosing, or passing on this series altogether?

  1. The more pictures that come out, the less intrigued I am. I will still end up getting the wave, but I’ll hunt it and try to collect it on the cheap. Nothing here I’m “worried” about.

    • You can see a thigh swivel on Miles’ in the packing pictures, and on the showroom floor loose pictures from when he was revealed back in May.

  2. i was passing on this set until i saw this pic. too much to pass on with alt heads and new molds. and although space venom isn’t the most popular, its still venom. and he looks sweet. it does appear the head sculpt is a repaint of the onslaught magneto head… anyone else see that?

  3. Honestly, the not-quite-classic Electro bothered me at first, but it’s grown on me and I’m grateful for the classic head at least. I’m not crossing my fingers for another one in the near future, so this one will have to do. As for the non-inclusion of interchangeable hands, it bugs me, but maybe some of the previous Spidey hands will fit. It is the Spidey buck after all. Loving the Peter Parker sculpt, btw.

    • I wish there were a database of which figures use which parts, and what is and isn’t interchangable….
A detailed Marvel Legends wiki. Or even a general action figure wiki.

      • Hell, I REALLY wish they’d start standardizing parts. Using the same sized ball sockets for all heads, the same peg sizes for hands, etc etc etc.

    • Yeah sticking with my Marvel Legends Sinister 6 Electro. The new one is cabbage.

  4. Oh boy. Miles Morales. Gosh. Hope they release X-23 Wolverine, Jane Foster Thor, Kamala Khan Miss Marvel, gay Hydra Captain America and another Sam Jackson Nick Fury soon.

I’m so glad Disney bought Marvel. I just don’t know what I’d so if Marvel were still… ya’ know. Good.
