Marvel Legends Wendigo Series Case Ratios Assortment

ORIGINAL 6/2/2019: June 2019 has arrived, and with it has arrived the month’s first new wave of Marvel Legends figures for pre-order! Hasbro has relentlessly released “most-wanted” characters this year, and that trend is about to continue! Most of this X-based series was revealed at Toy Fair in February, but the wave-completing X-Force Wolverine stands revealed: the Marvel Legends X-Force Series is now up for order, including Nightcrawler, Boom Boom, Sinister and more!

Marvel Legends X-Force Wolverine Figure PackagedWe’ve been waiting ever since New York Toy Fair 2019 to find out what unannounced figure(s) would complete the lineup of this X-Force Marvel Legends set. And today we found out that, well… it’s another Wolverine variant. Womp womp!

But hey—in this instance, I think that’s actually A-OK! Because while we’ve had several X-Force Wolverine figures released in the past, it’s always been as some sort of store or convention exclusive set. Getting a mass release of this popular costume for the Wolverine X-Force fans out there sounds like a win to me (even if not the most exciting possible selection)!

Marvel Legends 2019 X-Force Wolverine Figure with Wendigo HeadWhile this X-Force Wolverine figure may look like a simple repaint, he’s actually got new boots and arms that set him apart from his predecessors. I really dig this costume for Logan, and I like seeing it get some love. Thumbs up.

Marvel Legends Nightcrawler Figure Packaged X-Force SeriesWolverine is one of two figures getting the double-packed (two-per-case) treatment in this series, which is always a good choice. But the other double-packed figure is just as excellent of a selection: the first new Marvel Legends Nightcrawler figure in many, many years!

Nightcrawler Legends X-Force Figure and AccessoriesWhile we don’t get a teleportation effects ring with Kurt (we’ll all have to scavenge one from the Caliban Series Blink), what we do get is three heads, a sword and a sword-holding hand (plus a Wendigo arm)! With three distinct heads, there’s something for everyone here. Awesome.

Marvel Legends Guardian Figure Packaged X-Force SeriesWhat may not necessarily be for everyone is the remaining four figures in the series: two classic X-Force members, a top-tier X-Men villain, and a dude with zilch to do with X-Force at all: Guardian.

Marvel Legends Guardian Alpha Flight FigureWhile Guardian is arguably the most recognizable member of Alpha Flight, he’s never been one of the most popular dudes around among non-Canadian fans. Hasbro is slowly (and I mean slowly) building Alpha Flight in 6” form, so this should fare okay-ish at retail—but still most likely the slowest seller from the assortment.

X-Force Marvel Legends Sinister Figure PackagedOrdinarily I would have expected a new Marvel Legends Sinister figure to absolutely set the pegs on fire from how fast I’d expect it to sell through, but the response to this Mr. Sinister has been a lot more tepid than I had expected.

X-Force Legends Mr. Sinister 6 Inch FigureA lot of fans seemingly just don’t like the costume choice for this version or don’t like it as much as the old Toybiz version, but I imagine that there will still be plenty of folks ready to devour this after a decade-plus Sinister drought.

Marvel Legends Boom Boom Figure PackagedFinally, we’ve got two classic X-Force members getting their first single releases ever from Hasbro: Cannonball and Boom-Boom!

X-Force Legends Boom Boom Figure Official PhotoThe New Mutants are absolutely my jam, and I’m jazzed to finally, finally get a Boomer figure after decades of waiting. Perfect costume choice, perfect bubble-great blowing alternate head, perfect time bomb effects and time bomb hand… this is everything Tabitha Smith fans could have hoped for. Mega thumbs up.

Marvel Legends Cannonball Figure PackagedX-Force Legends Cannonball, well… I think he looks really neat, but fans have been quite vocal that they’re unhappy he doesn’t get any legs. If it came down to legs or blast effect, I would absolutely pick the blast effect… but that’s just me.

X-Force Legends Cannonball Figure Official PhotoI think the gradient on the Cannonball blast effect “lower body” looks awesome and I think this is a very unique figure that will stand out well on a shelf. It really is a shame that poor Sam will never be able to… well, stand.

As expected, the X-Force Build-A-Figure is the Wendigo BAF that Hasbro revealed in Canada late last year. Basically, this is a repaint of Sasquatch with a new head and tail. I’m not entirely convinced that there’s a big appetite for this particular iteration of this character, but hey–he’s free if you want every figure in the wave (and I do). I’ll take him.

Marvel Legends X-Force Series Wendigo Build-A-FigureThe X-Men Legends X-Force Series is now up for pre-order, and is scheduled to be released in August 2019. Despite being two-per-case, I suspect Nightcrawler may end up being a very quick sell-out (along with Mr. Sinister). Really, Guardian is the only figure from this wave I foresee being a really slow seller.

Having seen the official and packaged photos of them all, what do you think of the inaugural X-Force Legends series, Marvel collectors? Which is your “must-have” from this wave (if any)? Are you planning to pick up a whole set to build Wendigo or just cherry-pick favorites?

Marvel Legends X-Force Series Up for Order! Nightcrawler! Sinister! — 31 Comments

  1. GIVE THEM TO ME NOW! (except that stupid Cannonball statue that I’ll put away in a box never to be seen again because it’s not really an action figure)

    • Haha! Seriously. That cannonball was a dissapointment at first site. Iyher than that, I’m all for this wave. They should have maded cannonball wi th a switchable lower half.

    • F that. I’ll just jam a set of MCU Cap legs in his torso for everyday Sam poses.

    • Relax! They’ll probably pack his legs with some other figure down the line. Just like Onslaught’s head was packed with a totally different line.

  2. Ok, now that I’ve actually read the article… 🙂 There are PAlenty of Alpha Flight fans out there. Whether or not they buy action figures is another thing. But all the comic sites I fequent that have long time fans salivate every time Byrne’s run on Alpha Flight or their appearances in X-men are mentioned. For me, he’s the main figure I want in this wave, along with the Wendigo because of the X-men issue guest starring some of Alpha Flight. Cannonball might as well be a plastic block. Nightcrawler is a must have, and as a newer collector, I definitely missed out on him last time. The rest are just ok.

  3. I can’t believe we aren’t on 2nd iterations of Alpha Flight figures by now, honestly. I’m baffled by how little representation they’ve gotten from ML. I would love to see a Snowbird, in particular.

Also, I agree that it’s pretty shocking Cannonball doesn’t come with legs, but who was honestly ever going to use them? Options are great, but no legs is 1000x better than only legs.

    • its especially surprising about Alpha Flight since most of them would be easy figures to make. Only Puck and Box seem like they would take many new parts

    • Agreed! This will look dope posed on a flight stand. He’d look super boring just standing on a shelf since this is his power in full effect. I think the tune may change on this once released. I suppose it would be better if he had both. But whatever. I’d never use the legs anyway.

  4. And while it’s a little bit of a bummer that Nightcrawler doesn’t get the same ball joint torso that Beast got, the three heads look incredible. I’m so glad they gave him an angry shadowy face.

  5. I happen to check Pulse just a while ago (without coming to this website) and was pleasantly surprised to see them in the 2nd to last and last pages of my Marvel legends search. I went ahead and pre-ordered all six figures even though I have the old Wendigo which I really like.

I think Guardian will sell as well as the other X-Force figures primarily because he has the BAF torso. I’m patiently waiting to complete the Alpha Flight team. Hopefully, Hasbro will complete the team with in the next 2 years. I’m also patiently waiting to complete the Inhumans (or as much as possible). I anticipate Hasbro will come out with Triton and Karnak as they came out previously in 3.75″ figures. However, I’m not optimistic that Hasbro will ever come out with Gorgon as it will be difficult to get him to stand (Hasbro, please prove me wrong).

    • I’m shocked they haven’t done a Crystal yet, given her ties to the Avengers and the FF beyond just being an Inhuman, and the fact she wouldn’t need much new tooling. I’d very much like them to complete the Royal Family too. Black Bolt and Medusa just aren’t enough.

      • Agreed. We also need a Maximus too. I also forgot to mention that Lockjaw came out as 3.75″ scale (Marvel Universe) as an SDCC exclusive.

  6. They all look good, but I’m a little disappointed that Guardian’s red seems to be brighter now. I like the shade he had when they initially revealed him.

  7. I will likely get this whole wave. The Toyfair version of Guardian/Vindicator seemed to have a a more metallic red which looked better than the cherry-red in these pics, oh well. Kind of wish Nightcrawler came with an effect piece but i’ll figure something out. Too bad about Cannonball not getting legs but not a big deal for me.

I’ll pick up Nightcrawler and Sinister right away, and maybe hold off for a sale and then try and pick up the rest of the wave. I do plan to build Wendigo, he looks like he’ll be fun to pose fighting the likes of Sasquatch, Hulk, the X_men and Alpha Flight

  8. Since Mr. Sinister’s colors are all wrong I wonder if there will be a fix like they did with Psylocke and Mysterio.

    • Is there a way to find out about when they do a running change on color on figures? Because this is the first I found out about psylocke tbh.

      • People find out basically when they start going for big bucks on ebay. I can confirm because I have the black haired Psylocke. People complained early about the color schemes on those from the promotional images released and Hasbro fixed it later in the run.

        • So just in case I missed some, what other figures have paint changes or minor tweaks?
The ones i know about are The Shocker, Mysterio, Psylocke (now) and I think that’s it

  9. I want everyone from this wave….but I only preordered Sinister, Nightcrawler, and Boom-Boom, for now. I’m not a big fan of the Guardian face….kind of like the one Black Knight head that has the mouth looking like he just smelled somebody “cutting” one. I’m OK with this Wolverine, so he’ll go with my grey Deadpool and X-23, but I’m getting too many Wolverines as is. And Cannonball. I do want to get him, but I figure he’ll be easier to get with the leg controversy. I’m one that would rather have legs, because in the comics, I see him standing more than he’s flying….but both legs and action blast should have been included.

    • You hit the nail on the head with Cannonball. I’ve been saying it since they revealed him that there is no reason not to get both options. There are a ton of ways they could have gone about doing the blast as an accessory on the cheap. This was pure laziness on Hasbro’s part. I will never be convinced that this was the better call. Give me a full figure, I’d rather have to customize a blast effect than come up with a whole lower torso and a way to make them interchangeable. It’s honestly sad that collector’s are willing to settle for this insanity on certain things. We all understand that inflation and rising plastic costs means we don’t get figures for 8 bucks anymore, but we should get a full figure and an accessory when we pay the new retail norm. And we are not getting that with this release.

  10. Nightcrawler…well…I might have to buy 3 because I love him and all of the heads are just everything and I have no idea which one I would want to display more. (Plus, making a custom bamf effect for all 3 would make displaying him even more unique and special if he was on 3 different shelves.)
This figure makes me SO HAPPY!

The only other must have for me is Sinister. I know a lot of people don’t like his colors or the boots in boots…but he looks awesome to me and (even if it was just for/because of this figure) he looked basically exactly like this.

    • (I hit enter too soon.)
Sinnister looked like this *in a recent Uncanny Issue*.

  11. Man…I want them all. Only preordered Kurt though, I’ve been waiting for a new Nightcrawler figure. Now if they could just release a Jim Lee Storm, I’d be completely satisfied.

On the topic of Alpha Flight, while I’ve never been their biggest fans, I’d definitely welcome figures of them, especially if it leads to a Kara Killgrave figure down the line.

  12. Definitely want sinister and nightcrawler! And I actually do want guardian.
Btw, there any chance that whenever u do your future reviews on all your figures, that u can do I drive by side picture of the new figure with its old counterpart?
That way we can see the difference of costume, color, and overall appearance of the two. Assuming u have the old figure of the new one you’re reviewing

  13. Missed Opportunity to give Nightcrawler the Portal Effekt from Blink. Anyway, really stoked to get him finally.

  14. GREAT move on the Cannonball. Since both legs and effect aren’t an option, this is the better choice IMO and I don’t understand why so many people always get upset over these kinds of things. The blast effect is what sets him apart from just ANOTHER boring figure.

I have ZERO use for essentially a generic looking human figure with no allure, sitting on the shelf amongst a horde of already generic looking human figures.

Just like Hydro Man and the arms, these features MAKE the figure. Take that away and they’re garbage and boring.

  15. So just in case I missed some, what other figures have paint changes or minor tweaks?
The ones i know about are The Shocker, Mysterio, Psylocke (now) and I think that’s it
