At this point, I’ve come to realize that virtually every company that’s ever made a sculpt for the Iron Man Mark VII armor is going to do a money-grab by repainting that item gold and calling it Midas Iron Man. Don’t fight it–just accept it. And the latest company to cash in on their old Revoltech Iron Man Mark VII figure sculpt is Kaiyodo! Coming this fall–the Revoltech Iron Man Mark XXI figure is now up for order!
If there’s anybody left on the face of the earth that’s a completist with high-end Iron Man figures, I feel really bad for them. Not because there’s not some incredible toys on the way–there definitely are–but because the sheer magnitude of high-end Iron Man action figures coming out these days is just out of control.
That said, this Kaiyodo Sci-Fi Revoltech #52 Iron Man Midas figure is pretty gorgeous.
The multiples shades of gold paint that Kaiyodo used on this Midas Iron Man Revoltech figure make it look both resplendent and sophisticated. From a visual standpoint, this is probably the single “prettiest” Iron Man figure ever released in the Revoltech Iron Man figures line.
You can get a better feel for the contrast of the shiny paints used on the Iron Man figure by looking at the back of the armor.
And like all of the Kaiyodo Revoltech Iron Man action figures released, Midas Iron Man’s articulation is solid and impressive (though not quite at the level of the Bandai S.H. Figuarts Iron Man figures).
Accessories? There’s not a ton, but the prerequisite energy blast effects pieces are included, as well as couple pairs of alternate hands and a little name placard for the figure.
I’m a total effects piece fiend, so I can never get enough of these.
Kaiyodo hasn’t announced Midas Iron Man as being any kind of limited edition, but I imagine the number of these produced is going to be much lower than any of the other Iron Man Revoltech figures released (for obvious reasons).
The Kaiyodo Iron Man 3 Revoltech Iron Man Midas figure is now available for pre-order, and is expected to be released in September 2013. If you want an Iron Man Midas action figure in your collection, this is likely the cheapest high-end version that any company will ever produce, so definitely give it a look if you’re interested.
What are your thought’s on Revoltech’s Mark 21 Midas Iron Man figure, Marvel fans? A worthwhile addition for an Iron Man collection, or is the Iron Man market getting to the point where it’s well and truly milked?
