SDCC 2015 Marvel Legends Doctor Strange Set Revealed!

Way, way back last summer, Hasbro started showing off concepts for Marvel Legends Dormammu and Magik figures. Fans guessed that some sort of future “magic-themed” box set was in the works… and as it turns out, those fans were correct! The SDCC 2015 exclusive Marvel Legends Doctor Strange set has now been revealed, and it includes the first Brother Voodoo and Hela figures ever!

SDCC 2015 Exclusive Marvel Legends Doctor Strange Box Set

I apologize for my lateness in reporting this mega-ton of news, but my “best week ever” was continuing today with facial surgery and stitches, so I was preoccupied with blinding pain.

But if there’s one sure-fire remedy that makes agony all better, it’s new toys! And today, we got our first look at five all-new Marvel Legends figures that will be released as a special San Diego Comic-Con 2015 exclusive set next month!

Marvel Legends SDCC 2015 Brother Voodoo Doctor Voodo FigureNow, let’s not pretend that any of these characters being considered for the Marvel Legends is a shock: it’s not. Hasbro began teasing some of these magic-based characters ages ago–with the figure that’s the longest-coming being the Marvel Legends Doctor Voodoo, who was first shown at SDCC 2009!

When Brother Voodoo (Jericho Drumm) lost the Marvel Legends Fan’s Poll in 2009, I thought that the book was closed on ever getting a Marvel Legends Brother Voodoo figure–but six years later, Voodoo has finally hit the big-time!

2015 SDCC Exclusive Marvel Legends Astral Doctor Strange FigureDoctor Strange is getting a new Marvel Legends figure already this summer, so a translucent Astral Doctor Strange figure is a no-brainer.

The Marvel Universe Astral Plane Doctor Strange chase figure is really rocketed in price and popularity, and I expect this 6″ Astral Strange to be a hot figure as well (although the mustache painted-on with black paint does look a mite peculiar to me).

Marvel Legends Dormammu FigureAnd where would Doctor Strange be without his greatest nemesis (not named Shuma Gorath): the dread Dormammu? Having been previewed last year by Hasbro, it was only a matter of time until the oversized Marvel Legends Dormammu appeared!

I’d forgive collectors who think this is Dormammu’s first toy release, but he was previously released as a Minimates and a (terrible) Toybiz 5″ figure. While the ML Dormammu isn’t quite as nice as the Bowen Dormammu mini-bust, it’s definitely Dormammu’s best action figure ever.

Marvel Legends Hela FigureBut while Dormammu has had multiple poseable action figures prior to San Diego Comic-Con 2015, one character that has not is Hela!

With a soft goods cape and her trademark crazy headdress, Marvel Legends Hela is looking mighty fine! I’m pretty satisfied with the Bowen Hela statue I got last year, but this is such a great set that I certainly won’t turn my nose up at a nice-looking Hela action figure.

Marvel Legends Magik Figure Exclusive

Finally, we’ve got the figure that I’m most excited about in this set–Magik! Some of you may be scratching your heads as to Magik’s inclusion in a Dr. Strange set, but she does belong, what with her being an apprentice of the Sorcerer Supreme and all in the current run of “Uncanny X-Men” that this figure is based on.

While Illyana Rasputin has appeared as a Toybiz New Mutants figure, a Sideshow statue and a Minimates figure in the past, this is Hasbro’s first-ever Marvel Legends Magik figure (and the second Marvel Legends New Mutants figure ever released as well!). Will we ever get the long-canceled Dani Moonstar figure…? We’ll see…

SDCC 2015 Marvel Legends Doctor Strange Set Book of VishantiThe whole set comes packaged in an awesome Book of the Vishanti box packaging with a real “Eye of Agamotto”, and will retail for somewhere between $99.99-109.99 next month (I’ve seen three different price-points for this set reported for some reason). Limited quantities will be available on Hasbro Toy Shop after the show, but let’s be realistic–those will be gone instantly and not nearly enough to meet demand.

Now that it’s been revealed, what do you think of this year’s Marvel Legends SDCC Exclusive set, Marvel collectors? Is this supernatural-themed Doctor Strange set everything you ever dreamed of, or did you have something different in mind for this year’s big exclusive set?

SDCC 2015 Marvel Legends Doctor Strange Set Revealed! — 26 Comments

  1. Looking forward to this set. How much are people going to be paying on the aftermarket for this set? It’s around 200-210 right now.

    Executioner and Enchantress soon please!

  2. First release in a line that matters.

Hela?…. ENCHANTRESS already! What’s the hold up, Hasbro?

  3. Just curious about the sales channel on this. A ton of ebay sellers are offering this for post-sdcc delivery. Do some toy sellers get a guaranteed purchase of some of these or are they just assuming they’ll be able to pick one up?

    • No. No guaranteed purchases of any kind. HTS has it so no individual can buy more than what they prescribed. In the case of the 5 pack, it will be 2 (if past years limits remain consistent). What these leeches…err scalpers do is have team mates infiltrate the line and buy up the quantity allowable. Last year I saw somebody with 6 Thanos Imperative box sets….ON PREVIEW NIGHT!!! This reprehensible auctioning on eBay is simply a case of the vultures not even waiting for the body to drop before they start circling.

      • I say, same as commercial retailers ie Target,ToysRus etc,the responsibility of setting limits is on eBay. Certain items should not be allowed to be posted for sale during certain periods and then only limited qualities.
I love that Apple sets limits on thier highly popular products and that there’s no glut on the market for the latest iPhone etc.

  4. Need that Magik figure! I hate exclusive packs, they never leave USA. Getting the Magik figure in the aftermarket is going to be very expensive and difficult…

  5. This is a beautiful set… gosh, I hate exclusives. I mean, odds are I’ll be able to find this after con on Hasbro.com (if I don’t blink). But, still, gah. I liked the Thunderbolts set from a few years back but never managed to find it close to retail. Thanks, Hasbro, at least we collectors don’t have to worry about contracting “completionist-itis”. I’ve still never been able to find 2013 Emma Frost for even close to a reasonable $20.

But, yeah, Magick and Hela are otherwise “must-haves” (“must-wish-I-hads”).

  7. I wanted this characters in the marvel universe line so much …
Talking about that, the MU sdcc exclusives still not apear. Any clue ???

  8. Bring these to the 3.75 scale. I would even get Dormamu as is since he’s often bigger anyway, if only he would be sold separately.

    • Speaking of the 3.75″ line, I’m also anxious to see what Hasbro has for an SDCC exclusive in that scale. Of course when you consider they seemed to have forsaken the line (judging by the restrictions on articulation they’ve placed, I wonder if there’ll be any Infinite Series representation at all).

  9. Como viene todo calculo que tendremos mas legends antes de fin de año …. ya que hasbro a traido a varias figuras perdidas espero que no se olviden de blade y dani moonstar

  10. There are no weak links in this set. So cool. I really hope it goes up for sale on HTS eventually. Fingers crossed that HTS will keep up the post-con availability. I got lucky with the Infinity Gauntlet set last year but this year there is the GotG and Dr Strange sets.

I’m hoping Enchantress is going to be a part of Ragnarok, so she’ll be included in whatever ML waves get released around then.

  11. Here’s hoping they have a great offering for the 3.75 scale. I want a MODOK for that line! I was thinking about hunting down the older BAF from the Legends line but it seems expensive.

  12. Is the Hasbro website the only place these will be available after the con? (Not including ebay!)

    • Hasbro Toy Shop is the only place that the set will be available for retail pricing. Other online retailers may buy some of the set at the con and mark it up.
