Toy Fair 2014: ThreeA Dr. Doom 1/6 Figure Revealed & Photos!

It was actually not until my third pass through the New York Toy Fair 2014 ThreeA Toys booth that I realized there was something new on display at the booth. While my eyes had been drawn to the four ThreeA Iron Man figures on display repeatedly, somehow I kept missing the figure standing immediately next to them. But sure enough, I eventually did open my eyes all the way and see the debuting prototype of the next addition to the line: the Marvel ThreeA Dr. Doom sixth scale figure!

Toy FAIR 2014 ThreeA Toys Iron Man Sixth Scale Figures

Ordinarily I’ve got eyes like a hawk for new toys, but to my shame, I was so intent at staring at the four Iron Man ThreeA Toys figures that I didn’t even notice the Dr. Doom figure immediately next to them.

The 3A Iron Man quartet (Classic, Stealth, Stark Industries Prototype, Silver Centurion) was only unveiled a few weeks past and just went up for sale last week, so this was the first time that the four figures were shown publicly in the United States, and I definitely wanted to check them out and give them the attention that they deserve.

ThreeA Iron Man Figures at New York Toy Fair 2014In person, I have to say that the ThreeA Toys Iron Man 1:6 figures are really, really impressive. I’m surprised to say that I really do enjoy the stylized aesthetic of the Iron Men and the incredible level of paint deco. I’m still not convinced that I’m going to drop $190 each for one or more of these 3A Iron Man figures, but my resolve not to is most certainly wavering.

ThreeA Toys Stark Prototype Iron Man & Dr. Doom Figures Toy Fair 2014Less impressive than the ThreeA Iron Man figures–at least for now–is the ThreeA Toys Dr. Doom figure prototype that debuted at the show. This figure is basically a fully armor-clad Dr. Doom with some Tron-like light-up “power lines” running down his torso and legs.

Toy Fair 2014 ThreeA Dr. Doom 1/6 Figure RevealedHaving Dr. Doom’s only clothing be a hooded cloak looks weird to me after spending my whole life seeing Dr. Doom wearing a tunic over his armor. While it certainly makes sense to not wear clothing over your body armor, I still sort of hope that this figure comes with some sort of additional removable soft goods.

2014 Toy Fair Three A Toys Dr. Doom PlacardThe sculpting on the 3A Dr. Doom figure is well-done all-around. The Dr. Doom mask is unmistakably doom, and the only part of the sculpt that I absolutely hate is the weird curved feet.

3A Toys Dr. Doom at New York Toy Fair 2014Currently there’s no official pricing information or release date for the 3A Toys Dr. Doom 1/6th scale figure, but based off of the 3A Iron Man, I’d guess that the ThreeA Doom will go up for order in late 2014. The Iron Man variants turned out so well that I sort of hope we get some Dr. Doom ThreeA variants as well (though I’ve no idea what they would be).

How do you like the early peek at ThreeA Toys’ second foray into the Marvel Universe, collectors? Does their envisioning of Dr. Doom catch your interest?

  1. Already placed an order for the Stark Hanger set. ill patiently wait for threeA to finish Doom and hopefully fine tune his look (more familiar) for a U.S. market.
Tunic and feet need a drastic overhaul.

  2. I’m a 3A & Marvel collector & I think Ash has missed the mark here. Obviously a nice paint job will help, but it’s just ugly, and there seems to be a lot of part repurposing – those shoulder pads are ridiculous. The feet look like the Iron Man feet to me – they’re the least of his issues.

  3. Why do his feet, shoulders and hands look like Iron Mans? Will Ultron share these same features? I was hoping for a little more stylistic variation between the “robotic” characters of Marvel.
