Toy Fair 2020: Marvel Legends Avengers Leader! Mar-Vell! Rage! Mach-1! & More!

While leaked retailer listings and images took some of the luster out of Hasbro’s big Toy Fair 2020 reveals, Hasbro has now officially unveiled this year’s Marvel Legends Avengers series—and it’s also up for order online now! Individual pre-order links for each of the figures below:

The cat snuck out of the bag yesterday via a mishap on the Walmart website, but today’s the day that this year’s GamerVerse-themed (sort of) wave of Avengers Marvel Legends was officially announced and fully revealed at the Hasbro Toy Fair Presentation!

While a new Abomination Build-A-Figure may elicit some groans and grumbles so soon after the two Abomination BAFs that were released a couple years back, this one is based on the new Square-Enix Avengers video game. I think it looks… fine… but it’s definitely not a carrot that would get me to order the whole wave if I wasn’t going to already.

Luckily, I was going to order the whole wave of 2020 Marvel Legends Avengers figures already, so Hasbro wins again! I’m honestly not sure about how some of these character selections beyond the GamerVerse Iron Man and Captain America are going to fare at mass retail, but I think it’s a really interesting assortment for the die-hard fans. Captain America and Kamala Khan will be the first video game figures to use the popular face-scanning technology.

The Leader and the original Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell) appear in this wave to some fanfare from longtime collectors. Neither of these are exactly “headliners” with the mainstream crowd, but I’m happy to get both.

I’m not the biggest Mar-Vell fan, but Marvel Legends Leader looks especially great to me. Never let it be said that Samuel Sterns is afraid to rock fashion his own way! Love that citrus orange, yellow and green costume!

New Warriors and Thunderbolts fans get some much-needed additions to those lineups in the form of Rage and Mach-1. I’m still not convinced we’ll ever see either of these rosters completed in toy form, but I’d be lying if I said my heart didn’t yearn for a Speedball figure!

The only real disappointment of this wave to me is the “new” Ms. Marvel Kamala Khan, which is the virtually the same as her original release a few years back (now with photo-real face scan) and not in her main GamerVerse video game costume that we’ve seen in the trailers mostly thus far. I’m happy to see Kamala get a refresh at retail for those who still needed her, though! Love Ms. Marvel!

As a humongous fan of Kurt Busiek’s Thunderbolts, my heart also does a little jig seeing Mach-I in plastic super-articulated form. I wonder if a more metallic/glossy silver wouldn’t have worked better than the grayish-white on this costume, but I’m pretty tickled to see this action figure getting done regardless.

Now that they’ve been revealed, what are your thoughts, Marvel collectors? Which figures from this wave (if any!) are you buying?

Toy Fair 2020: Marvel Legends Avengers Leader! Mar-Vell! Rage! Mach-1! & More! — 21 Comments

  1. This wave is pretty “meh” to me. I have no interest in the Gamerverse figures. If you have one MCU Cap and Iron Man, and they all are too similar to me, to want these. The only figures that I want are Leader and Rage, but I’m figuring those won’t be big sellers, so I’ll wait for a drop in price.

  2. Wish it was Kamala in her video game costume. One of the few designs from there that I really like.

The comics figures look great. Real excited for Rage, MACH-I, and Leader, and it’ll be nice to have Mar-Vell too.

    • ?? I thought Kamala was supposed to be the gamerverse version? if its not then what does this costume represent

  3. MACH-1 is the must have for me. Already pre-ordered him.
Mar-Vell is the only other one I’m likely to get. He would have been better in the Captain Marvel wave last year than Genis was, but I’m glad they got to him here.
I kept putting off getting the last Kamala because I didn’t love how it looked, so this is a big letdown. I think I’ll leave it, but might change my mind when I see it up close.

  4. The original Captain Marvel is a must have for me. I’ll get that Mach-1 figure also. The rest… no. Maybe the Leader once he goes on sale. The others… no.

  5. Mar-vell and Leader only for me. I’m a child of 70’s and 80’s comics, so that’s all I need here. I have the Abomination BAF from 2 or 3 years ago and the rest just do nothing for me.

  6. I know nothing about Ms. Marvel, except that she was a peg warmer a few years back. I’d love to see Speedball, Mandarin, and a Mephisto as big as the first Giant Man BAF.

  7. Ordered Captain Marvel, Mach-1 and Rage. I have a theory that every 3.75 figure will eventually get a 6″ release so I am sure there will be an AOA Magento in the 2nd wave and that a Firestar must be coming soon. If I’m correct we should get an A-Bomb (Rick Jones), X-Force Nightcrawler, Death’s Head I, Thunderstrike, Shanna, Yondu, Triton, Karnak, Maestro, Quasar, a new Longshot, and Colossus as Juggernaut

  8. Walgreens Exclusive Iron Man 2020 ► Nope, not a fan.

The Leader ► DEFINITELY…my comic Hulk needs more bad guys

Captain Mar-Vell ► DEFINITELY…looks like he jumped right of the pages of Jim Starlin’s run.

Ms. Marvel ► BIG PASS. Updated face scan is not enough for me to grab this re-issue

Rage ► DEFINITELY! He was an Avenger for a while, too!

Mach-1 ► Ehhhhh, maybe….I liked the T-Bolts book, but I’d need to know the rest of the team is coming to ML

GamerVerse Iron Man ► NO WAY. Too many IMs

GamerVerse Captain America ► NO WAY. Too many Caps as well, and this version looks like he’s covered in hockey pads

  9. 2018: Songbird
    2019: Citizen V
    2020: MACH I
Here’s hoping they continue giving us the T-Bolts over the next few years.

    • the one that will be trouble is Atlas since he would need to be a BAF or deluxe release and i’m not sure he’s popular enough to merit that. The others will probably continue to be sprinkled into waves here and there.

      • Isn’t it time for them to rerelease Moonstone? Maybe flat white instead of pearlescent? Or offer her in one of her previous Thunderbolts costumes?

  10. I never got the Abomination BAF from before so, for that reason alone, I might have to bite the bullet and get this wave sans Cap even though I’m only interested in Leader.

  11. Worst. Toyfair. Ever. No MCU?!? None??? Where’s final battle thor? Deadpool is too little too late. No movie Colossus? Wheres movie Venom or Morbius??? This is NONSENSE! How was there no MCU stuff revealed? Its blowing my mind. I get not spoiling disney+ shows or eternals, but wheres the rest of the ENDGAME characters? I hope Walmart doesnt stock too much of this pegwarming B-list comic nonsense.

    • Seeing as how Endgame wave 3 seemed to barely show up at retail stores (only saw the whole wave at FYE and just Cap at Gamestop.. never at WM, Target, or WG), i can’t blame Hasbro for not rushing to make more figures right away. That said, I’m guessing they will come out with some 2-packs and 3-packs to fill in the gaps (for instance, i’m sure a set of final battle big 3 is in the works). Although given how quickly previous mcu sets have hit clearance prices in both 10th anniv and 80th anniv lines, i wouldn’t blame hasbro for not rushing to get those done either.

I don’t get the complaint about Deadpool…disney just acquired Fox and i think its pretty amazing they were able to get these movie figures done as quickly as they did. I assume if they do well they will consider making a DP Colossus and Juggernaut, as well as more characters like Jean Grey and Storm from the fox x-movies.

any movie figures relating to Venom and Morbius would be more likely revealed at sdcc, closer to the movie’s release. I’m not convinced they will actually do movie versions, since they didn’t do any movie figs for the 1st venom movie. But since it made a lot of money maybe they will, this time around,

    • How the hell are Captain Marvel and The Leader considerd B-listers?!?! One is the reason Danvers is what she is and the other is the Hulk`s nemesis! I love the MCU as much as the next guy, but we need comic characters too.

  12. Definitely getting the Leader and Mar-vell!!! as far as abomination, this one seems bigger so maybe this will stop all the complaints from fans about the previous BAF being too short.

Not really onboard with the gamerverse figures although i did think the cosmic iron man variant was pretty cool looking.

Anyhow, looking forward to seeing what comic characters show up in gamerverse wave 2.

  13. As a big fan and collector of T-Bolts and New Warriors comic-books I am wishing to have Rage and Match I. Rage Could go with Nightrasher and Match I with Citizen V and Songbird.
Also interested in having the Hasbro versions of Leader and Captain Marvel.
The rest are a pass for me.

  14. Was just able to order the Walgreen’s exclusive Iron Man. Been checking daily, and was surprised it was actually available.
