Toy Fair: Marvel Legends X-Men Age of Apocalypse Series Figures Up for Order!

Even though the full lineup of single-packed 2020 Marvel Legends X-Men Age of Apocalypse figures has been known since last fall, Hasbro has kept a tight lid on the identity of the Sugar Man Build-A-Figure for months so that a grandiose reveal could occur… the night before Toy Fair 2020 on the Walmart website. Whoops!! But regardless, the time has come for Marvel Legends Age of Apocalypse pre-orders! Solo links for every figure are below:

Jean Grey

Weapon X Wolverine

Dark Beast

Sunfire

Morph

Nate Grey X-Man

Wild Child

Hugh Jackman Wolverine

I’ve talked about the seven single-packed figures in this wave over and over over the last half a year plus, so I’ll forgo blathering about them more here. I’ll summarize my feelings by saying that this is my favorite ML X-Men wave *ever*, and every figure in this lineup is a must-have A-Lister to me.

But what I do want to talk about is the newly-revealed addition to the wave that is likely to surprise many folks (who weren’t privy to spoilers)—the Sugar Man Build-A-Figure! Sugar Man is an evil geneticist from the Generation Next chapters of AoA who crossed into the mainstream 616.

While I don’t think this character will appear on the all-time favorite villain lists of many fans, he does have a crazily twisted design and the Sugar Man BAF makes for a wild Build-A-Figure. Given the strength of this lineup, I don’t think a “bigger name” was necessary as the BAF to sell the assortment, honestly.

And while we still haven’t gotten an official confirmation of a second X-Men Age of Apocalypse Marvel Legends series, I think that the reveal of the Sugar Man BAF basically confirms it. We’re still missing Magneto, the leader of the X-Men in the entire story arc, and a veritable essential for an AoA toy series. Furthermore, if Hasbro did Wild Child and not a matching AoA Sabretooth, collectors would never, ever let them forget it. Heh.

After over half a year of anticipation, pre-orders for the Age of Apocalypse Legends figures are now open! You’ve had plenty of time to deliberate, so now that the time is here: which are *you* buying, and does the announcement of the Sugar Man Build-A-Figure impact your desire to collect the whole wave (or not)?

  1. Ugh. I’ll get Wild Child and toss his BAF piece in the trash. My love of Alpha Flight demands Wild Child. The rest…gross. Especially Wolverine and his stupid looking head.

      • Hatred is the only thing holding his atoms together. Without it his physical form would break down and he’d dissipate and be blown away in the wind.

        • LOL. Hate is a thing I have. Truly. But I have much love for the world of comics from the Lee/Kirby 60’s up until about 1992 or 1993 when Image and EXTREME art became the norm and good writing usually fell to the wayside too. That junk drove me away from collecting comics, and I had been a BIG TIME addict. Figures like this are the result of that unholy time. Here’s maybe a way to better understand: I started reading comics during the Claremont/Byrne/Austin X-men run. (Stories: Days of Future Past. Dark Phoenix Saga. Proteus. Alpha Flight. The Return of Magneto. The Savage Land.) Now look at Wolverine up there and try to imagine how I feel about him. Look at him! 🙂 Now you know the source of my hate. There’s enough to keep my atoms together for a LONG time.

    • On the live stream, they said it’d be released separately at a higher price point. They also teased what I believe was a HasLab Sentinel . . .

  2. Hm…don’t know if I’ll get anyone from this line, but it does amuse me that Sugar Man’s disembodied head is shoving Jean to the side. XD

AoA!Wolvie is…definitely not my preferred design, but that’s not Hasbro’s fault.

  3. I preordered all of these! This was the best crossover event that I’ve ever read in comics! The designs of the characters are all superb, and I can’t wait to get some more of these!

  4. Hugh Jackman Wolverine? Cool, I’ll definitely pick that up.

As for the AoA…I’ve always had a soft spot for X-Man, so I’ll preorder him. I’ll probably pick up a Dark Beast at some other point. And I should be able to skip the rest.

  5. Just want Black Beat and Sugar Man! Still have the old Toy Biz Sugar Man but totally willing to upgrade!

Would have been interested in the new Rogue. But won’t be buying since they Black Widowed her and removed the cleavage. Pass.

Hasbro. If you’re listening. Knock it off.

  6. I loved the AoA storyline when it was first published, but looking at these figures, thinking I may not get any of them. Maybe the Dark Beast, but don’t really see the point of having only him. I was much more excited about this wave before I actually saw it. Can’t say exactly why, but just not feeling these designs for some reason.

  7. Pre-ordered them all except Weapon X. Last year I was sure they said there would be 2 waves of AOA this year. Of course the Big Man Apocalypse himself, and I’m sure we will get a Magneto, especially since there was a 3.75 version of AOA Magneto already, we will of course get a Sabertooth as well. Then to round out the next wave, I guess we might get a Rogue, Colossus, Prelate Scott Summers, Gambit, and Iceman or Storm

  8. Good thing I couldn’t care less about Sugar Man. I only want Dark Beast from this wave. Sooo happy Apocalypse will be sold on his own, because he’s the only other one in this AoA series that that peak my interest.

  9. Well, this is a pretty easy pass for me. A of A was a great story, but I have no real desire to collect such niche X-men figures when there are still lots of regular X-related characters they could do. I need a Banshee, Firestar, Siryn, Sunfire in his regular costume, Rictor, Cypher, Magma, English Betsy Braddock, Rachel Grey, Meggan … I know some of these are a pipe dream, but I’ll remain hopeful.

      • Hrmmmmm, no, I didn’t … must have missed him somehow! Thanks for the head’s up of his existence!

        • Ugh, I’m such an idiot … I rechecked my shelf when I realized he had a Warlock BAF piece … There he is, in all his glory. How sad that I forgot a) they made him and b) that I owned him already. Whoops! They say memory is the first thing to go …

  10. Passing on this whole wave, although i do like that they went with an unusual BAF in Sugarman (hope this means they’ll tackle MODOK at some point), especially as people were predicting either Sabretooth or a repainted Apoc, both of which would have been more boring choices. Glad for AoA fans but this wave is just not my bag, thats fine though as there are plenty of other MLs I’m interested in.

Sunfire is probably my favorite of the bunch, maybe if he’s on sale at some point i’ll grab him.

  11. I’ll probably get these, but they’re not that high up on the list. Sunfire’s probably the one I want the most, aside from the BAF.

  12. I’ll get Sunfire solely on his cool design, but the rest is an easy pass. I picked up all #1 AOA books back in the day…wasn’t a big fan of the storyline. I consider it a sort of “What If” branch of Marvel Comics continuity (and yes, I know Sugar Man crossed over into 616).
This does look like a great line for AOA fans, though.

  13. I’ve seen a pic of the Sugar Man BAF. Hasbro screwed up (again) on the belt and strap buckles. The prong on the buckles should be pointing in the opposite direction of the belt/strap end. They made the same mistake on Ares. I wish Hasbro would pay attention to details.

  14. Not sure about this wave. First I thought I would not be interested at all, but I think that X-Man , Sunfire, Dark Beast and WildChild are interesting to fill some spots in my collection. I will see depending on the price…

  15. Does anyone know what the AOA Apocalypse figure and Nimrod figures are going to be? I’ve heard BAF’s but I’ve also heard exclusives
