Funko is the uncrowned king of toy exclusives in the modern day toy collecting world, so it should surprise no one that yet another unannounced Funko Marvel POP! Vinyls figure has now appeared. What may surprise some folks, however, is where, as the latest Marvel Funko POP! Vinyl has turned up only in Japan! But if you want this exclusive Funko Metallic Amazing Spider-Man 2 POP! Vinyl figure, you may have to not only travel to Japan, but travel back in time as well…

Back in March, a Funko Metallic Electro POP! Vinyl exclusive turned up at Hot Topic stores in the United States. It’s a pretty cool exclusive variant of Electro, and certainly worth owning if you can find one at retail and are a Marvel fan. Based on the fact that there was a Metallic Electro Funko POP! Vinyl, you would think that there would be a matching Funko Spider-Man Metallic POP! Vinyl too. Well, as it turns out… there is.

At the Japanese Amazing Spider-Man 2 event, a variant Metallic Spider-Man Funko POP! Vinyl was given away to attendees for free. The metallic Spiderman POP! Vinyl was not available for purchase at the event, and has since not been put up for sale anywhere in the world. So for now, if you didn’t attend the April 24th 2014 movie premiere of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in Japan, you didn’t get this exclusive Funko POP! Vinyl Metallic Spider-Man figure.

In most cases, I wouldn’t be concerned, as SDCC 2014 is right around the corner and very few international Funko exclusives stay international-exclusive. The problem is that this time, none of the hints Funko has posted for their San Diego Comic-Con 2014 exclusives correspond to a metallic Spider-Man. At all.

And the employees at Hot Topic, who are usually very forthcoming to me about upcoming exclusives, have zero info on Hot Topic potentially getting the Funko Spider-Man metallic variant. So for the moment, there definitely does appear to be a real slight possibility that we won’t be getting this variant in the United States at all.

Previous Funko Metallic Spider-Man figures were San Diego Comic Con exclusives and sell for up to $100 now on the aftermarket, but if this particular Amazing Spider-Man 2 metallic variant never surfaces in North America at all, its secondary market prices may end up being significantly higher. For now, it’s the wait and see approach for me.
