Marvel Infinite Series Wave 4 Announced & Case Ratios Analysis

After getting off to an extremely slow start (as in “I’ve yet to even see one figure in a physical retail store”), Hasbro is apparently getting ready to give a major push to their 4″ Marvel Infinite Series figures line, the 2014 Marvel Universe successor. Just this past week we got our first glimpse of Marvel Infinite Series Wave 3, and now Marvel Infinite Series Wave 4 is already announced and up for pre-order! Don’t get too excited, though. Hasbro Marvel Infinite Series Wave 4 sounds pretty uninspired–to say the least…

Marvel Infinite Series Ionic Wonder Man Figure New York Toy Fair 2014

Everyone was a little baffled when the lineup for the Hasbro Marvel Infinite Series Wave 3 was announced and the Ionic Wonder Man figure that we saw at New York Toy Fair 2014 was M.I.A. As it turns out, Ionic Wonder Man isn’t a casualty of toy cancellation at all, however–he’s the anchor figure for the summer-shipping Marvel Infinite Series 4!

That’s not to say that Wonder Man is an especially beloved or popular character, mind you–it just means that he’s very likely going to be the only new figure in Marvel Infinite Series figures Wave 4.

To the dismay of pretty much every Hasbro Marvel Universe collector out there, Hasbro announced earlier today that the figure lineup and case assortment for the Marvel Infinite Series 2014 Wave 4 will be as follows…

Marvel Infinite Series Wave 4 Case Ratios:

(2) Marvel Infinite Series Ionic Wonder Man Figure
(2) Marvel Infinite Series Star Lord Figure [Marvel Universe Guardians of the Galaxy Team Pack Repack?]
(2) Marvel Infinite Series Rocket Raccoon & Groot Figure [Marvel Universe Guardians of the Galaxy Team Pack Repack?]
(2) Marvel Infinite Series Drax the Destroyer Figure [Marvel Universe Guardians of the Galaxy Team Pack Repack?]
(2) Marvel Infinite Series Death’s Head Figure [Marvel Infinite Series Wave 2 Repack]
(2) Marvel Infinite Series Marvel NOW! Hulk Figure [Marvel Infinite Series Wave 1 Repack]

Marvel Universe Guardians of the Galaxy Team Pack

Yes, that’s right. It looks like 10 of the 12 figures in the Marvel Infinite Series Wave 2 case are going to be repacks of old figures. The “Groot figure” mentioned is almost certainly just the small, non-articulated potted Groot figure PVC from the Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel Universe team pack, and I’d be stunned if Rocket Raccoon, Drax and Starlord weren’t all just reissues from that same pack as well.

Considering that the original 4″ Marvel Universe Guardians of the Galaxy Team Pack can still be picked up online for about $19 shipped, I somehow doubt that collectors are going to be beating down the doors at local stores to hunt for single-carded repacks of the figures for $10 each.

Marvel Infinite Series Death's Head Figure PackagedIncluding the Marvel Infinite Series Wave 1 Hulk and Wave 2 Death’s Head figures at two-per-case doesn’t exactly inspire me either. While I doubt these characters will absolutely choke the pegs like past Iron Man figures have, I don’t know that they’re going to be top-sellers either.

Marvel Infinite Series 4 is now available for pre-order in sets and cases, and is scheduled to be released in July 2014. Considering how stacked Marvel Infinite Series 3 was, I’m rather disappointed by the lineup for Marvel Infinite Series Wave 4. Even so, I’ll be thrilled to add the awesome translucent Ionic Wonder Man figure to my collection this summer.

What do you think of the announced Marvel Infinite Series/Avengers Infinite Series Wave 4 lineup, Marvel collectors? Is there anybody out there who’s excited for a potential chance to get the old Marvel Universe Guardians of the Galaxy figures

Marvel Infinite Series Wave 4 Announced & Case Ratios Analysis — 21 Comments

  1. Wowzers a wave I have every figure in some shape or form in! Wer is emma and skurge? Back to the same old crap! Wot a waste of a wave!

  2. As someone who was never lucky enough to get the set, I’m so happy that they’re reissuing Starlord and the gang! Although seeing how slowly Infinite is moving at my local retailers… Not too hopeful I’ll see this bunch either. Sigh.

  3. Some collectors are so pathetic, they are always complaining, I am a collector but the only time I ever complain is when product is not shipping. I am happy hasbro is actually putting product out there, for me that’s a much needed improvement on hasbro’s part. Not to mention that this is also a new line, so as a completest moc collector I am happy to pick up every figure that comes out on this new card back. I never cared for the box sets anyways because they all took up to much space and I cant display single characters. Kind of cool, even if they are just repacks, this line is no longer MU it is now avengers infinite. So stop complaining and just be glad product is getting out. I truly believe that the Emma Frost and all the figures that never came out are going to find their way out their, the Antman and Skurge from the upcoming wave 3 is hasbros way of saying, hey, we are going to get those figures to you, same with the marvel legends figures that were shown at last years SDCC. People need to chill out and stop whining and complaining.

    • Really! So your saying you don’t care wot gets out as long as it’s in a new package? Wer do you work? I’m gunner go out on a limb and say hasbro! And how can you as a collector say your never cared for the three packs. They wer frigging awesome! I’m not saying they shouldn’t rerelease figures but why not figures that are hard to get hold of. And to put all of them repacks in one wave is hard to swallow! And no their is no skurge in wave three, last I looked it wasn’t a balding fat man with an axe it was Valkyrie with long plated hair and wielding a sword! The other waves have been great this one isn’t!

      • Did I ever say I dont care who gets released or that I didnt want figures that are hard to get a hold of?? No, I did not, we are getting those figures, they just announced they are releasing ant man and valkerie as well. Typical collector, hasbro gives an inch and they take a mile. You should just be glad you are getting anything at all and that the line is not cancelled.

  4. I am totally with Brian here. We went through some rough times with Hasbro. Packing figures 2 per case, and wave assortments that make sense. I mean guardians of the galaxy is set for release, so why not capitalize on its popularity? That makes perfect sense. We are getting characters like Deathshead, Nebula, and Grim Reaper are being made how can we complain anymore? It shows me that pretty much any other character you want is going to be in the mix.

I am betting they save Northstar, Emma Frost, and Colossus Juggernaut for 2015 and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Jim Lee Storm, a new Beast mold, Bishop, Blink and possibly even some of the New Mutants, Runaways and Hellions like Dust, Cannonball, Rictor, Rockslide, Blindfold, Sunspot, Warlock, Domino and Magik among others!!!

Marvel /Hasbro are doing the right things.

    • Amen brother. Its funny because as hasbro is actually releasing all these obscure and missing figures people are still complaining. Its like they expect the figures to be solid gold or something. Give it a rest, stuff is getting released and I truly believe hasbro has a lot more surprises for us. They probably do it how they do it on purpose because of all the whiners.

      • Brian, I’m totally with you too. Many collectors are worse than children throwing temper tantrums over toys in dept. stores because they can’t get their way. They act like toys are made for them and them only.

      • Brian, after looking at my collection I realised we have got some pretty obscure figures and we have to thank hasbro for getting them out to us. Hasbro have to do wot they have to do to keep em coming.

  5. Figures made of gold, wow y didn’t I think of that! If theirs no figures made of gold in the next wave I’m going crazy! It’s a crap wave end of.

  6. Apologies for the n00bish nature of the question, however i’m pretty new to this so bear with me 🙂

Is the Hasbro strategy known? In particular with reference to the Spiderman universe? While they seem to drip-feed in the more well-known Marvel characters, it’s been a while since they’ve touched Spiderman.

While I have most of the Spiderman related characters in the Universe line I’d love to see more of the enemies made available – Shocker, Morbius, Venom, Carnage etc. I can understand veering away from difficult characters to model / do justice to, such as Doc Ock / Vulture / Lizard, but basic humanoid figures seem frustrating in their absence – I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment when I see the latest lineups for them to be yet another re-pack of an existing figure.

  7. Hi Gary. This year it’s an avengers themed year all tho we will be getting cyclops in wave 3 and Valkyrie. Next year it’s gunner b x men. So they will prob do a spiderman year some time. Good luck with your collection.

  8. I’m not finding these in any retail and I fear I’ll never see these until wasp costs as much as vision

  9. I have or should I say hoping either Rocket or Groot will be new sculpts. Neither one was a real figure in the box set. I can’t see anybody, collector or parent paying $10 for something that has no real play value. Until we see pics that say otherwise, I going to assume the figure is Groot w/ a mini Rocket on his shoulder. I think Starlord and Drax will be repaints but I think Groot/Rocket will be new figure(s) There has to be at least one new sculpted figure in the assortment. Has too be cause no way two PVC in a package is worth $10. Then on 2nd-ary market, they’d be $15!! Oh Hell’s No!!! Hasbro would deserve to go outta business if they pulled that stunt!

Plus, I think by the time this assortment hits, the line would be due for a new sculpted figure. The only new full sculpt for the line so far is Deaths Head, right? They gotta be doing more than just making new heads and Frankensteining the bodies. Even Puck’s figure does more than the Rocket we got and Groot in a pot is just shameful. I hope that guy got fired.

  10. Oh and as far as figures in this line being peg warmers, product has to actually make it to store shelves to be a peg warmer. Lol
Most of us have to actually FIND them in stores, I think at this point I’d be happy to see Deaths Head as a peg warmer cause at least I could find one at retail price! Lmao!

Can I get an Amen? Lol

  11. I know, mums ain’t gunner get em for the kids as they got the film toy line to choose from and they will look like they do on the film and us guys have em all ready. But hasbro gota try and cash in. It would b silly not to try.

    • They need to try harder. I understand cost cutting but that just seems really cheap.
On the bright side, I’ll save money at least for figures from the next assortment.
only figure I’ll get I guess is Wonderman.
