Hot Wheels Avengers Tower Takeover Set Revealed & Photos!

When the first Avengers movie came out, the franchise hadn’t yet proven itself as a record-shattering sales-juggernaut, so many toy manufacturers didn’t give the Avengers the time of day back in 2012. But this year–this year–everybody wants a piece of the Avengers Age of Ultron pie. And that means we are going to get all kinds of wacky, crazy merchandise–my favorite kind of merch. Case in point? This Hot Wheels Avengers Tower Takeover Set, in which, uhhh… well, Iron Man in sports car form tries to drive around a mammoth Ultron and make him explode!

Avengers Age of Ultron Hot Wheels Avengers Tower Takeover Set Box

For years, Star Wars fans have been getting some of the wackiest, craziest toys around–including some recently-revealed (and jaw-droppingly bizarre) Star Wars Hot Wheels cars. But in 2015, the Marvel movie universe fandom is just as big (if not bigger) than Star Wars fandom, so why should Marvel fans miss out on all of the ridiculous ideas that Mattel can come up with?

With that in mind–though I would never buy it–I can’t help but smile at the sheer ludicrousness of the Hot Wheels Avengers Age of Ultron Avengers Tower Takeover set, in which race car Iron Man tries to drive around the flailing arms of a gigantic Ultron figure whose body is made of Avengers Tower.

What is legitimately intriguing is some of the product description text for this set: “This Hot Wheels Avengers Age of Ultron Avengers Tower Takeover Set allows you to recreate all the heart-stopping action from the film… Ultron has taken over Avengers Tower and is threatening anyone who comes his way.”

Hmmm. If you take away the notion of Iron Man being a sports car, this certainly sounds like a plausible plot point from Avengers 2, doesn’t it…?

Hot Wheels Avengers Age of Ultron Avengers Tower Takeover SetThe Avengers Age of Ultron Hot Wheels Avengers Tower Takeover set is now available for order, and is scheduled to arrive in May 2015. This is definitely a conversation-piece Avengers movie toy to see, although I can’t imagine too many Marvel collectors are going to be salivating in anticipation of owning this set (more power to you if you are, though), and it’s extremely unlikely I’ll pick this set up myself (I might play with it for a few minutes if someone bought it for me).

What do you think of the Hot Wheels Age of Ultron Avengers Tower Takeover set, Marvel collectors? Is anyone out there actually intrigued enough to pick this set up, or is this set precisely the kind of loosely-connected movie tie-in junk that you like to avoid?
