Marvel Legends J. Jonah Jameson Figure Up for Order! (Spider-Man Retro Series)

DAILY BUGLE NEWSFLASH! For Hasbro’s first time ever, a 6″ Marvel Legends J. Jonah Jameson figure is now up for order in the Marvel Legends Spider-Man Retro series! Spider-Man Retro J. Jonah Jameson Legends: Threat or Menace? Is this the best JJJ figure ever, and are you planning on snagging one, readers? 📰

When the rumors began swirling that there would be a new super-articulated J Jonah Jameson action figure released for the first time in almost two decades, I was almost certain that the leak was going to turn out to be true: the legendary Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Bugle was just too weird of a pick to appear in the Spider-Man Marvel Legends Vintage (Retro) series not to be true.

And lo an behold, the Spider-Man Retro series is now confirmed to keep on trucking along with this new action figure of Jolly J. Jonah Jameson himself! Let’s have a peek…

Hasbro JJJ Jameson Figure Holding Newspaper

While we got a new J Jonah portrait with the Marvel Legends Chameleon figure that was released in the Rhino series years ago, we’ve been waiting for a proper figure of Jolly JJJ ever since. And, well… here he is!

Utilizing the modern Klaue body mold from the Black Panther Legends Wave 2 series works exceptionally well for Jonah, in my opinion. The tooling here is good enough that it could easily convince some people that don’t have that Klaue figure that the mold was made just for J. Jonah!

While he doesn’t get a cigar (for obvious reasons), Jonah will include two pairs of interchangeable hands and also both rolled and unrolled newspapers. “Spider-Sham” is an okay front page headline, although I really think that Hasbro should have tried to get “Threat or Menace?” on there somehow. Alas.

Marvel Legends Retro Spider-Man Cyborg Figure Packaged

Jonah is actually the second new figure announced for the Retro Spider-Man series of figure with Toybiz-inspired vintage packaging, as a new Marvel Legends Cyborg Spider-Man figure was surprisingly announced over the weekend.

This actually is an authentic 90s comic book-inspired action figure, believe it or not–I have good memories of having the original Cyborg Spider-Man toy from the Spider-Man animated series as a kid, so I’ll definitely be snapping up this Target exclusive if it’s easy enough to grab off store shelves.

The Hasbro Marvel Legends Spider-Man Retro J. Jonah Jameson figure is now up for order, and is scheduled to be released in early 2021. This is a Fan Channel Exclusive figure (as a niche civilian character like JJJ should be), so you won’t find J.J.J. at Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreens, or any of those types of stores. I can’t imagine that Hasbro has a gigantic run planned for this particular character, but I guess we’ll see how hard to get Jonah is (or isn’t!) once he releases in late winter.

What do you think, Spidey fans? Is this a worthwhile update to the old Toybiz JJ Jameson action figures, or are you satisfied with the “vintage” figures available for the iconic newspaperman?

  1. Instantly preordered. Jameson looks great.

And that Cyborg Spider-Man hits me with nostalgia. Never owned the original Cyborg Spidey, but I remember seeing it in stores and wanting it as a kid.

    • I owned it, didn’t know anything about it at the time & it wasn’t very usable in play as a kid, but it did look cool & this is definitely a nostalgia buy for me.

  2. JJJ – yes. Cyborg Spider-man? Umm… what? They keep reminding me of why I quit comics in the 90’s. Look at his little shoulder pad! And unnecessary strap around one leg! And headband with a little bit of extra cloth dangling! And pouches on his belt! LOL

  3. This is great, and I’ve already ordered two JJJ’s. If only he came with a desk and chair like the old movie figure…of course, then he would be “deluxe” by today’s standards, and cost a lot more.

Cyborg is…uh…well, my youngest who is a diehard Spider-fan wants one. I only hope that Target lets you order them from their website. They have been better about exclusives in the past than the other retailers.

  4. Any one realize they have all the parts they need for the X-Men animated version of Corsair? That arm pad. All the pirate themed stuff. I make the prediction they’ll have 1 next year.

    • Ooooo…Me likey the idea of some Starjammers. Since we got AoA X-men, maybe we’ll see some Dark Phoenix story line figures with some more Shi’ar characters to go with Gladiator and Lilandra. Maybe the rest of the royal family of the Inhumans?

      Also a comic Luke Cage.

And Box and Marinna from Alpha Flight, of course!
