Marvel Select Venom Figure Reissue Announced!

Perhaps the very best Marvel action figure of 2013 didn’t come from one of the more prolific companies like Hasbro or the most glamorous like Hot Toys. No, the top pick for Marvel figure of the year for last year was by Diamond Select Toys–the Marvel Select Venom figure. Released in February 2013, the Marvel Select Venom action figure followed in the footsteps of his symbiote predecessors by quickly selling out and exploding in value. But if you missed out last year, you’re in luck–Diamond Select Toys has opened pre-orders for a Marvel Select Venom reissue!

Marvel Select Venom Figure Reissue Announced

Believe it or not, it’s been less than a full year since I started this blog. And the very Marvel figure that I ever reviewed on it was the Marvel Select Venom action figure. Coming with a crazy assortment of accessories that would make him the envy of every Marvel Legends figure ever released, it was the 7″ Venom Marvel Select figure that really made me fall in love with Diamond Select Toys’ Marvel Select line.

Considering that virtually every non-exclusive and non-movie Marvel Select figure with a high demand gets re-released eventually (except poor Mephisto), it’s not exactly a shocker to see DST bringing Venom back to stores. Despite first shipping barely over a year ago, Marvel Select Venom has been wiped out in stores for eons and was selling for close to $60 on the aftermarket (almost triple his original price) before the announcement of his re-release.

Marvel Select Venom Figure with Five Symbiote HeadsI know plenty of collectors who passed on Venom the first time out, who are utterly thrilled to have a second chance to snag the Venom Marvel Select figure for its original retail price and not the nuts prices he’s been selling on on the aftermarket for the past few months. Given the immense popularity of this Venom figure, I would be astonished if we don’t see a new Marvel Select Carnage figure by the end of 2015 (at the absolute latest).

Venom Marvel Select Action Figure with Extended TongueThe Marvel Select Venom figure reissue is now up for pre-order, and is expected to be released in summer 2014. Diamond Select Toys hasn’t announced a specific release month for the Venom Select figure, but my best guesstimate on this one is July 2014.

I’m surprised it’s taken this long to see a reissue of the Marvel Select Venom, but am glad to see him finally making his return to stores. Are you pleased with the announcement of the Marvel Select Venom coming back to stores, Marvel collectors? Anyone skip this Venom the first time and planning to pick him up now?

  1. I’m all over the re-release. I passed the first time due to scale, believe it or not. Yes, Venom has been shown as considerably larger than Spider-Man in several comics (and an old 90’s arcade game where he, somehow, pulls a Giganta) but the size difference bothered me at first since I collect Legends, not Select. After seeing several pics of this Venom with the Legends Fearsome Foes Spider-Man and the Infinite Carnage figures I’m sold. Scale is no longer a sticking point. Here’s hoping they fixed the weird leg issue on this guy.

    • Ok! Dude! Effin Greatly Superb Awesome user name! I nearly peed my pants from LOL so much. Thanks from a fellow spider-fan. I loved SM3 too!
Btw: the comic book sliding scale issue? Yeah, eventually disolves into a non-issue. I’m sold on this version of Eddie…it’s all those different crazy heads and accessories, man!

  2. Nooooooooo!!! Why would DST put this on their archived figures page only to re-release it. I wouldn’t have paid 48.00$ recently. Wonderful. Ebay prices have already gone back down, so not like I can sell it to get most of my money back and then buy a new one for 25.00$.

  3. Yes! Suck on that all you ripping people off with the ridiculous after market prices! Thank you Diamond Select!

  4. I bought Venom last year on eBay for $30, not too bad. He’s an absolutely awesome figure! Now PLEASE re-release Moon Knight, Mephisto, and Loki!!!

  5. symbiote310. While I chuckled at your comment, I have to lightheartedly disagree. DST introduces them to the market at great prices and because the toys are made of high quality and with such detail, and are in high demand, people are willing to pay more for them if they have to. It’s not a rip off, it’s a compliment to the manufacturers and to the Marvel character. A rip off suggests that people are selling cheap products for expensive prices, but that’s not the case with the after-market for these. Before this re-release, this Venom was selling between 50-70 bucks on average (I thought my 48$ price was decent, but at that price I never would have taken it out of it’s packaging… or cryogenic chamber as I call it when on display). Say they sold Venom to some naive person for $100, then maybe that’s a rip off, but a buyer should do their research before over-paying for anything.
On the bright side, I can go ahead and buy a regular priced Venom (hopefully) and display him out of the package now so that’s awesome.

  6. The paint applications on some of these aren’t worth the high price. Can’t begin to count how many diamond select and marvel legends I have to pass up because of paint apps. Ive even bought some figures twice! It stresses me out a little haha :/

I would gladly pay 40$+ if the figures are on point 100%

  7. I know what you mean. The Gambit I have, still in the package, has a scuff (or paint wasn’t fully applied?)on the tip of his nose, the Spider-man (crushed car) is all kinds of messed up in the face, and the Nightcrawler I have is a bit dull looking compared to many of the pictures I’ve seen. I got each of those for $20.00 though. There are some I own that have magnificent painting, such as the Magneto, Unmasked Movie Spider-Man, Winter Soldier, and Anti-Venom. The Venom I bought for 48$ looks pretty good too, I was happy to pay that price until I found out about this news (I’m happy for everyone else though). Storm looks well done too. I can’t believe she is still selling for under $15.00 at many places online. From what I can tell the Superior Spider-man looks great and is next on my list.
I love them all though. They’re like my babies. I am going to hate when the day comes that I have to sell them, if ever.

    • i would get the select superior spider-man at the disney or marvel site now while they are in stock at 24.95. Anywhere else ive seen wants 39.99. And to be dead honest the marvel legends superior spider-man looks way better than the marvel select one. Just giving you my opinion of course. Good luck!

      • I actually just got it at our local Disney Store yesterday. The base is amazing. Those pictures of the figure never do any justice to the size of the base. It’s huge. Spider-man looks good too. There weren’t any flaws that I noticed. I haven’t jumped into legends yet. Have been spending all of my money on Select and dabbling a bit in the Universe 3.75″ figures. I’m loving it. Thank you again!

  8. Im curious, ive searched on bbts, diamonds website, and even googled and could find no announcement of this. The link provided in the article just shows another vendor that sold/sells the venom. Any chance you could post a source or link?

    • DST was telling people at Toy Fair 2014 that Venom would be reissued this year, and he’s also in their upcoming product catalog that was given out at the show right next to the Winter Soldier Marvel Select figures. I imagine we’ll see the official solicitation for the Marvel Select Venom reissue in the new Diamond Comics Previews catalog when it comes out later this month.

      • Awesomeness! I wasnt trying to accuse you of false information, just wanted to get a jump on the preorders. Thanks so much for the awesomes site!
