SDCC 2015: Marvel Legends Mockingbird & Taskmaster Revealed!

Hasbro doesn’t believe in playing all of their cards at once at the biggest convention of the year, and that’s why–even though they’ve already shown off an amazing all-new wave of Spider-Man Legends figures and their panel is less than 24 hours away–Hasbro debuted three more all-new Marvel Legends figures on Friday at San Diego Comic-Con 2015! And while the bad news is that we’re getting yet another Captain America figure, the good news is that we’re getting the first-ever Marvel Legends Mockingbird figure, as well as a totally different Taskmaster from what we’ve seen before!

SDCC 2015 Marvel Legends Mockingbird Figure

At this point, most of the more prominent modern members of the Avengers team have been made into 6″ Marvel Legends action figures at one point or another. But some members of the team have slipped through the cracks, making their long-overdue introductions to the line all the more anticipated and memorable. Such is the case with Bobbi Morse–Mockingbird!

Since returning to the land of the living during “Secret Invasion” a few years back, Mockingbird has gotten quite a bit of page-time and even temporarily rekindled her romance with her ex-husband, Hawkeye. And now, she’s getting her most high-profile toy ever: a Marvel Legends Mockingbird figure!

Marvel Legends Mockingbird Figure Revealed SDCC 2015I know that not everyone is going to be in love with the choice that Hasbro made to capture Mockingbird in her modern costume, but I think that the classic Mockingbird costume is just way too antiquated to ever get recreated in Marvel Legends form. But hey–at least Bobbi still has her trademark mask with translucent lenses, right…?

Now if only we could get Hasbro to produce an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Adrianne Palicki Bobbi Morse figure…

Marvel Legends Taskmaster Figure SDCC 2015Also included in the new reveals is an unexpected update to the Taskmaster! While Toybiz released a Marvel Legends Taskmaster figure around a decade ago, Hasbro has never created their own 6″ Taskmaster.

With Taskmaster being a very popular villain, I was half-expecting to see a refreshed Taskmaster action figure sometime soon–I certainly wasn’t expecting him to be sporting his Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon costume, however! I suspect that this is going to be another divisive choice among fans…

SDCC 2015 Marvel Legends Captain America Figure

And finally, the third new figure revealed is… another Captain America. Officially, this is Marvel Legends Classic Captain America. As you can see, he’s very reminiscent of the Secret Wars Captain America figure that Mattel released back in the 80’s. Just, you know–bigger, not super-skinny and not horrible-looking.

While I doubt anyone was dying for a new Captain America Marvel Legends figure to be revealed at SDCC 2015, this isn’t a bad iteration of Cap for Hasbro to capture if they felt that they absolutely had to do a new Cap (and obviously, they felt that they did).

Close-Up of Marvel Legends 2016 Taskmaster FigureIt’s unknown at this time if these three figures are part of a future 2015 Marvel Legends Avengers wave of figures or a standalone three-pack, but we’ll find out for sure at the Hasbro Marvel panel the Saturday night of SDCC 2015. Intuition tells me that this is going to be a three-pack, but I have been known to be wrong (from time to time).

How do you like these three latest Hasbro Marvel Legends 6″ reveal, collectors? Are these new figures up to par in your opinion, or are you disappointed with the latest set of Comic Con Marvel Legends reveals?

  2. FUCK YEA!
I JUST told Marvel to make Marvel Legends figures for these two YESTERDAY.

    Awesome.

    That Mockingbird is magnificent.

That Taskmaster needs a cape…. Still awesome though.

  3. I love the Mockingbird too. The costume comes from a good comic book run, her miniseries and short-lived regular series in 2010-ish. And she’s a new sculpt–torso and maybe head. Did a quick look at my ML ladies, and couldn’t find a hair match.

    • So happy to see that we’re finally getting Mockingbird — she was one of the ones brought up the most whenever people were asking about figures that needed to be made. She looks brilliant, just like she did in McCann and Lopez’s work.

That new buck is way better than the old one, although I do find it ironic that the shorter female model is being used for a character who’s played by a woman who’s almost six feet tall.

Taskmaster’s great news as well. I didn’t manage to get the other Taskmaster figure, which now goes for ridiculous prices, so it’s great to see a new one.

Hey, I can get Mockingbird and Taskmaster, and recreate some Secret Avengers panels!

      • That’s more on the bad casting of MCU Mockingbird.

She should’ve been played by Yvonne Strahovski, who’s a MUCH better actress, looks much more like the character, and is a bit shorter.

        • I disagree… I think Adrienne has done an amazing job with the character as portrayed on the show. Afterall Bobbi is more of a commando on the show, than a scientist/spy as she is in the comic. She seemed stiff at first, but I think she ended up being a highlight of the show this year, for sure.

        • I liked Strahovski in Chuck, but I don’t think she’d been able to be intimidating enough for Bobbi. She’s one of SHIELD’s best, the kind of person Fury gives direct orders to. She needs to seem powerful when she enters a scene. Palicki does that perfectly.

  4. NICE! Cant wait.

That Taskmaster is missing a white cape to go with his hood?

I could see some kind of Agents of SHIELD Bobbi Morse figure if the TV show gets some better writers !

    • Agents Of SHIELD’s writing is fine. It’s the actress. She’s just….not good.
She’s not terrible, but she is about as interesting as dry toast.
Mockingbird is one of the few times when I’d say Marvel screwed up the casting.

      They should’ve cast Yvonne Strahovski.
She looks much more like Mockingbird, is MUCH more fun to watch, and is closer to Mockingbird’s size, and is a badass.
Plus, she played Sarah Walker on Chuck for 6 years, which was essentially the greatest Mockingbird audition anyone ccould ever ask for.

  6. I’d love to know if it’s that terrible shield they’ve been releasing with all recent Cap figures (and US Agent) with the c-shaped arm clip that breaks way too easily. They need to go back to the face-off shield or find a better/not so bubblegum machine cheap version.

I’m good with my Toy Biz Taskmaster, thanks.

I’m okay with this Mockingbird. I don’t have an “all classics” fetish. My Spider-Man is the Sandman Series version. I think I can handle this version of Bobbi.

  7. I always thought that Taskmaster suit from Ultimate Spider-Man was bad ass so I’ll get him if its a single release.

  8. This is all going to be part of the Captain America: Civil war wave. The 3 remaining figures will most likely be movie iterations of characters.

  9. I’m was really excited to see the Mockingbird figure. She’s been a favorite Avenger for a long time and the figure looks to be reality well sculpted – nice face and I love the touch of fabric folds in the outfit. I’ll definitely be picking up a Mockingbird figure.

  10. Not a fan of Ultimate Spider-Man but the Taskmaster design from the show is amazing. I always liked the idea of Taskmaster but the cape and buccaneer boots made it impossible for me to take him seriously.

  11. the classic Mockingbird costume is just way too antiquated to ever get recreated in Marvel Legends form.

What, like Tiger Shark, Batroc and Blizzard, lol..?

  12. Honestly, I’m looking forward to this Cap just as much as, if not more than, the other two figures in this wave (although Taskmaster is getting an Udon head so that makes it EVEN MORE PERFECT)- because so far we’ve gotten just about every single iteration of Steve Rogers EXCEPT this one.

We got Super Soldier Steve, we got Marvel Now! Steve, we got Ultimate Steve in that 3-pack, we got WWII Ultimate Steve in the TRU-exclusive 2-pack, we’ve got movie Steves out the wazoo, I think the only widely-known Steves we HAVEN’T gotten are Nomad and Old Man Steve (as he is currently), and, yeah, good luck selling THOSE in Marvel Legends form. And I guess you COULD try and track down the Face-Off Captain America, if you have some extra organs you don’t mind selling so you can afford it.

I was looking forward to this one, and I’m glad they waited and used the Reaper mold. Not gonna lie, it looks GREAT.

  13. Anyone know why Mockingbird’s latest costume has these hug black dots going down the left side of her torso? They don’t quite look like buttons…Do they have a purpose in the comics or are they purely a design element?

    • Yes, they are buttons. Maybe what’s throwing you off is that theyre on the left side instead of the right. Bucky’s jacket/tunic was buttoned down the right side, and sometimes he wore one that had buttons down both sides. Women typically have theirs buttoned on the left.
