SDCC 2017: Marvel Legends Ghost Rider! Gwenpool! Songbird!

Just when I thought that Hasbro was done for the day, they busted out another quartet of previews for upcoming 2018 Marvel Legends figures! Not only did Hasbro decide to show off the hotly-anticipated Marvel Legends Ghost Rider and motorcycle set this afternoon, but they also gave us our first SDCC 2017 tastes of new waves of Avengers and Spider-Man Marvel Legends figures with Gwenpool, Songbird and Spider-Punk!

Marvel Legends SDCC 2017 Ghost Rider Figure and Motorcycle

I was a bit taken aback by Hasbro showing the Marvel Legends 2018 Black Widow & Motorcycle set right off the bat during the media event Thursday morning, but I figured they must have thought that just saving Ghost Rider and his motorcycle for the Saturday panel would be enough ammo to blow us all away.

But nope–! Turns out, Hasbro was going to let Marvel themselves unveil the new Ghost Rider Marvel Legends figure with motorcycle this afternoon on the show floor!

2018 Marvel Legends Ghost Rider Motorcycle Side ViewAs is obvious from the photos, this is the classic Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider iteration (sorry Robbie Reyes fans), and he’s riding on what is the sickest 6″ scale motorcycle I’ve ever seen. Glorious!

Marvel Legends Gwenpool Figure SDCC 2017But that’s not all–! While we haven’t seen any new Marvel Legends Spider-Man series figures at the show up until today, two of the expected characters from the leaked list of UPC codes that popped up in April finally appeared, including the Unbelievable Gwenpool!

SDCC 2017 Marvel Legends Gwenpool FigureI’ve tried hard to love Gwen Poole, but the character’s “meta” qualities just haven’t connected with me personally. That said, she’s in Marvel Puzzle Quest (where her abilities are ludicrous), so the Marvel Legends Gwenpool figure is a definite “buy” for me. She comes with smiling head and tongue-licking head, as well as some alternate hands, a cell phone and swords.

SDCC 2017 Marvel Legends Spider-Punk Figure RevealedIf anyone had any doubts about exactly how deep Hasbro was going to go with Spider-Verse variants of Spidey himself, I think today’s new Spider-Man reveal will paint a pretty vivid picture: Marvel Legends Spider-Punk!

Hailing from the super-popular Dan Slott Spider-Verse event, punk rocker Spider-Man isn’t Peter Parker at all–he’s actually a Hobie Brown version of Spidey! (And if rumors are true, we’ll be seeing another Hobie Brown figure tomorrow when the Marvel Legends Prowler figure debuts!)

Marvel Legends 2018 Songbird Figure RevealedLast, but not least, it’s a character we’ve been waiting for a figure of ever since the prototype of her show off way back at SDCC 2013 was cancelled: Marvel Legends Songbird! We’ve had to wait more than four years for a revised Songbird 6″ figure prototype, but I think she was truly worth the wait!

Back of Marvel Legends Songbird Figure Wings

Songbird is part of the first Marvel Legends Avengers Infinity War series coming out in 2018, and is one of the comic book-based figures from that wave (no, MCU Songbird is not debuting in the Infinity War movie–sorry).

I’m glad that they went with a classic long-haired head for Melissa, and her huge translucent pink hard sound construct wings look amazing! If the other figures in the Avengers Legends 2018 series look this good, we’re in for a real treat!

Marvel Legends 2018 Ghost Rider with Motorcycle SDCC 2017I’ll be continuing 2017 SDCC coverage throughout the weekend and into next week, so be sure to stay tuned to the Marvel Toy News Twitter and Facebook Pages for alerts on new figure photos, updates and news articles!

What do you think of the four newest Marvel Legends 2018 figures to be revealed at San Diego Comic-Con? Are any of these characters must-haves for you, and what figures are you hoping to see premiered tomorrow at the Hasbro panel (*cough* Mysterio Demogoblin Spider-Man Noir *cough*)?

SDCC 2017: Marvel Legends Ghost Rider! Gwenpool! Songbird! — 25 Comments

  1. If Hasbro is revealing the rest of these 3 waves, Deadpool, Spider-Man and Avengers, we’re going to be seeing a lot of figures tomorrow. If I had to guess, I would say we’ll see the entirety of the Deadpool and Spider-Man waves and the comic Avengers figures.

  2. And just because you said it Songbird and the rest of the Thunderbolts will now be cast and thrown into the 47 characters from Infinity War.

  3. I had completely unwarranted hopes that Spider-punk was Steampunk Lady Spider. Oh, well. There’s always one figure in a wave I don’t care much for. Spider-punk gets to be it for this one.

  4. Ghost Rider looks really great. I remember the one and only time that I ever saw the previous ML Ghost Rider in a store and I impulsively bought him, even after debating how a lot was missing (i.e. no accesories/ hell cycle).

I missed out on Spider-Verse…and consequently, when I see this Spider-Punk I have visions of what used to happen when action figures really went off the deep end (think of all of the weird variations of Ninja Turtles, Batman, etc.). Very easy pass here…that is just one weird figure!

Songbird looks incredible. It’s been a long time since I have followed this character in comics, but I really think that this figure looks great!

My fingers are crossed for a 2018 X-Men wave. The X-Men are my favorite “corner” of the Marvel universe and are the only waves from Marvel Legends that I collect 100% of. I guess I kind of get it if a Deadpool wave has to take its place…but I really hope that I’m wrong.

    • Spider-Punk is apparently a version of Hobart Brown (normally Prowler) who became Spider-Man, and in his home dimension of Earth-138, he’s leading the “Spider Army” in revolution against President Osborn and literally using punk rock as a weapon.

      • It’ll be a bit disappointing if Prowler doesn’t come with a Hobie head – one that can be used by both Spider-punk and Prowler. It’d be a bit of added play value for those that buy the whole set

    • I have seen in an interview that one of the Hasbro people there said that there is an X-Men wave as well as the Deadpool wave.

      • That’s cool. I really hope so. I often wonder what the next batch of X-Men figures will be.

    • If I’d not read Spider-Verse I’d be in total agreement with you, but I did and I’ve been hoping a Spider-Punk would be announced for just forever now. I daresay I’m hoping for eventual Spider-Man India, Spider-Ham, Victorian Spider-Woman, BAF Karn. Pre-Spider-Verse I would never have imagined wanting endless Spider-Men.

  5. As a HUGE Thunderbolts fan, it feels like I’ve been waiting for Songbird forever. But I’m actually glad that old figure got cancelled a few years ago. This is a much better representation of the character. Now if only we could get Atlas, Fixer, MACH, and Jolt…

  6. Heh. Let’s just say it like it is: the Spider Punk figure is stupid. It will be available on Amazon for about 6 bucks at some point. Gwenpool is a well crafted figure of a really dumb idea and not worth talking about more than that. Songbird and Ghost Rider look SWEEEET. And they will be a scalper’s delight.

    • Yeah, I think you’re probably right on target here. I haven’t been able to figure out Gwenpool. The character selections that we’re seeing brings me to something that I think about a lot…I know Spidey is Marvel’s single most popular character, but at what point will there be just TOO many Spidey-wave figures out there? Think about how many characters (and then different versions of characters) can be put into X-Men waves. It would take them years and years to get to most of the figures that people want to see! And by that point…how many dozens of iterations of Spidey will we have? I like how there are a lot of Spider-Man villains that have been produced…so far Hasbro hasn’t even been able to fit in any of the X-Men villains (except, I know, that Magneto from the TRU exclusive wave that hardly anybody saw anyway). I see Spider-Punk as scraping the bottom of the barrel already, really…

    • I keep hoping for a really good Marvel NOW Punisher.
Classic/Jim Lee style Punisher just looks like a doofus, and the Netflix Punisher is SUPER underwhelming (barely has any weapons, no holsters or sheaths, almost no paint…).

  7. I hope that they put more deco on Spider-Punk’s guitar but Spider-Punk and the rumoured Spider-Man Noir are my two needs so far from the Spider-Man wave (depending on the BAF I may get the whole wave) but the Gwenpool figure has caught my interest there are some hilarious “selfie” poses I’m thinking up that make her a worthwhile option. Also the Hellcycle looks sick I don’t have much desplay space so getting it in will be a challenge but it looks like it will be worth it.

  8. I like what Hasbo is doing with the the Spider-Man line. They are releasing figures needed to build the Spider Verse which is pretty much my sole purpose.
