SDCC: Marvel Legends 2019 Spider-Man! Kingpin! Silver Sable!

The next 12 months are going to be a big one for Spider-Man, with not one, but two Spider-Man movies (plus the Venom movie!) hitting theaters. Have no fears about there not being enough merch, though—Hasbro has got us covered! Following up the Marvel Legends Venom series that’s currently up for order, Hasbro announced the first of the 2019 Marvel Legends Spider-Man Figures—including a Kingpin Build-A-Figure, the Red Goblin, Silver Sable and more!

2019 Marvel Legends Kingpin Build-A-Figure Spider-Man

Fans have been asking for Hasbro to do a 6” scale Marvel Legends Kingpin for years—and at San Diego Comic-Con 2018, Hasbro made it clear that they’d heard those wishes loud and clear!

While there’s plenty of collectors still wishing for a Netflix Kingpin Marvel Legends figure, there’s apparently going to be a bit longer to wait for that one. But for comic book fans, this is the Kingpin Build-A-Figure you’ve been waiting for!

Close-Up of Marvel Legends 2019 Kingpin Build-A-Figure HeadThe Spider-Man Legends Kingpin BAF features a 100% new mold (that I think it would be really difficult to use again for any other character), and includes his trademark diamond-topped cane and two interchangeable heads (serious/closed-mouth and enraged/open-mouth). This is a real winner that is certain to push a lot of sales of the Marvel Legends Spider-Man 2019 Wave 1 Figures.

Marvel Legends Spider-Man Red Goblin 2019 FigureAnd speaking of Wave 1…! We got to see the bulk of that wave revealed at SDCC 2018 as well. Hasbro is really on the ball this year, as the wave actually features a pair of characters from “Go Down Swinging”, Dan Slott’s final story arc on the “Amazing Spider-Man” comic book which just finished up this summer! That’s crazy-fast!

2019 Marvel Legends Spider-Man Symbiote Spider-Man Figure Go Down SwingingThe two figures coming from the story are a Marvel Legends Red Goblin and a new modern Symbiote Spider-Man figure. I’m not wild about the bizarre aesthetic of the eyes on this new Symbiote Spidey, but the Norman Osborn/Carnage mash-up Red Goblin is just too cool. (Can we also have a Normie Osborn Goblin Child figure, Hasbro? Pretty please??)

2019 Spider-Man Marvel Legends Silver Sable FigureThe other two figures revealed for the wave are a new modern costume Marvel Legends Black Cat and the first-ever Marvel Legends Silver Sable figure. In fact, I believe this is the first toy of Silver Sable EVER besides a Diamond Select Toys Minimates figure of the character!

Marvel Legends 2019 Black Cat Figure Kingpin SeriesWhile I don’t mind the modern Black Cat costume with yellow cat eyes on the chest, I don’t think the ultra-friendly, smiling portrait Hasbro has given this Felicia is entirely appropriate, as this is the costume Black Cat primarily wears as an underworld villainess in the comics. I don’t think it’s at all likely, but I sure wouldn’t mind if there was an interchangeable head for this figure!

Marvel Legends Into the Spider-Verse Spider-Gwen and Miles Morales Figures

Rounding out the Marvel Legends Spider-Man reveals for SDCC 2018 is an Into The Spider-Verse two-pack with repaints of Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen/Ghost Spider in their modified designs from the animated movie.

This pack will be ideal for those who missed these figures the first time around in 2016, although I think the non-comic book style of the figures may turn some collectors off. It’ll be nice to have Gwen and Miles both back in circulation in a two-pack that should be readily available nonetheless.

Marvel Legends 2019 Kingpin Series Figures Black Cat Red GoblinThe Spider-Man Marvel Legends Kingpin series should be up for order this winter, and is scheduled for release in early 2019. I would expect that the Spider-Gwen and Miles Morales two-pack would be released earlier to coincide with the Into the Spider-Verse movie, but there’s no concrete release date for it just yet. I’ll send out an alert once more info is available.

Now that you’ve seen the big 2018 SDCC reveals, how are you feeling about the future of Spider-Man Legends, Marvel collectors? Will you be buying the whole Kingpin Series to build the complete Kingpin, and what characters are you hoping take the last few slots in that wave?

SDCC: Marvel Legends 2019 Spider-Man! Kingpin! Silver Sable! — 28 Comments

  1. Kingpin is gonna be super hot, if you do PO the whole you are likely to pay a steep price. May even order 2 waves.

  2. Definitely getting all 7(?) figures in this wave. Maybe this is where we see Demogoblin finally show up? Or does doubling up on Goblins not work for Hasbro?

Looks like a very modern, Slott-era wave, though, so I’ll guess a Ben Reilly figure (either the Jackal get-up or his new series costume w/the hood), Superior Octopus, and a Spider-verse hero (Spider-man India, perhaps). I’m sure that’ll be wrong because waves are never so on-theme, but that’s what I’m going with.

  3. I hope they include a new Vulture or Scorpion or both to fill out the rest of the wave, because the current list is pretty weak. Everyone is going to want that Kingpin but the individual figures are pretty hard to justify buying.

  4. Silver Sable was released in the 5″ line, with some sort of bug attack piece.
Black Cat’s grin is just wide enough to be maniacal, and I’m all about it .

  5. I hope we see the Black Cat arms and legs reused for Wolfsbane,Feral or Hepzibah!
I think this wave is weak but I’m going to pre order the whole set to get that Kingpin! Best build-a-figure Hasbro has done in my opinion. (Hoping the X-men BAF blows our socks off!)

  6. I thought Dwight said at SDCC that the rest of this wave was gonna be classic figures? So we maybe getting our Vulture. Demogoblin.. it’d be an easy kit-bash. Vermin or Carrion!!

  7. My hope would be The Vulture, Vermin, Demogoblin. Just have Vulture not include a BAF piece.

  8. If they stick to the modern/Slott-era theme for this wave, I wish they include Mr. Negative (hot because of the ps4 game), and/or Morlun (the Spider-verse need their villain!). Make it happen Hasbro!

    • Morlun would be decent. We just need our classic Vulture. The other two slotts.. haha. Are up for grabs.

  9. Actually Dabid, that buck can be used for a Mr Fixit, (and before any of the “Bigger is Better” posse attempts to say “it’s too small”, The Grey Hulk is 1″ shorter than Wilson Fisk). Bigger AIN’T better Accuracy to scale is.

    • Ooooo, a Mr. Fixit Hulk! Interesting idea! I should have thought of that, since I see the cover with him and Patch Wolverine hanging out in Marvel Puzzle Quest like every day of my life! Haha.

  10. I only collect “Spider” figures and there is nothing in this wave that I want. I don’t even know what or who is in that Black costume Spider-Man i

  11. The wave sucks as a whole unless you’re a completionist or into the modern stuff. We need more classic characters: Scorpion, Hydro Man, Classic Vulture, Jameson, 6 armed Spidey. Unless one of these guys is in the wave, I’m going to pass and hope I don’t have to pay an arm and a leg for the Kingpin BAF.

  12. I see zero I’m interested in other than Kingpin. You’d think he’s cool enough to sell the wave, but not for those figures. Holding out to see what others are in the wave before I totally write it off and just buy a Kingpin on eBay for 70 or so bucks. Cheaper than spending 160 for figures I have no interest in.

  13. This may be the first wave where I hit eBay for the BAF and don’t touch any of the singles. Droppo made a good point. Why spend full price for the set you don’t want, when you can spend half for the figure you do?

I MIGHT be interested in Red Goblin, but only if I find him in the wild or for a reasonable price. The other three, zero interest. We’ll see what happens for the remaining slots.

  14. Yeah, like others have said, this is a horrible series. Spider-Man is my fave character and I love his associates characters, but these modern designs are just ugly.
I may pick up Silver Sable as she looks classic, but this wave is pretty poor except for the BAF.

  15. Kingpin’s is shown with his vest buttoned correctly (albeit the general rule of thumb is not to button the bottom button); but if you take a closer look at the Kingpin’s suit coat, you will notice that he is dressed like a “Gurly Manh” as he’s wearing a WOMAN’S suit coat! The buttons for men’s shirts, coats and vests are suppose to be on the right side (opposite side of the suit breast pocket). I informed Hasbro today, and hopefully they will be able to fix this huge fashion error.

  16. I was so stoked to finally see a Legends Silver Sable, as she is-without hesitation- my favorite female Marvel character… next to Medusa(which I’m still hoping for a version with different head molds with various hair poses/attachments). Black Cat I’m iffy about… tho I am glad to see a more dynamic,athletic/less busty version.

  17. Definitely Silver Sable since I just got Paladin. May get Black Cat cause I missed her the first time back in the Ult Goblin wave. Love the Kingpin figure but unless the other 2 figures in the wave knock my socks off I will pass.

  18. Why are the furs on Black Cat painted black and not white? Why not her iconic costume?
Red Goblin needs some work done… while I’m sure its hard to recreate from the comics, the face sculpt is just weird looking.
Imagine they him the clear-orange flame effect in his eyes and mouth; like Ghost Riders clear fire effect, or the JackoLantern fig for example, who literally has bits of fire coming out of his pumpkin head eyes.
    Where can I make suggestions?
