SDCC: Marvel Legends 2019 X-Men! Professor X! Gambit! Sentinel!

The San Diego Comic-Con 2018 Marvel Legends panel has come and gone, and while I’ve actually seen some collectors complaining there weren’t enough reveals, I think there’s plenty of new things to pine away for. Over the next few days, I’ll break down all of the new 6” figures announced at the show, starting with the X-Men Marvel Legends 2019 series, which contains new figures of Blink, Gambit, Magik, Professor X in Hoverchair and more…

Marvel Legends 2019 X-Men Reveals at SDCC 2018

Hasbro has been teasing a new Marvel Legends Professor X figure for so long now that it seems only right that they dragged out his full reveal over the course of their panel at SDCC 2018 this weekend.

Initially mentioned as one of the X-Men Legends 2019 Figures, we found out at the end of the panel that he won’t be part of that wave at all—instead, he’s coming as part of the next series of Legendary Riders… complete with Cerebro helmet and 90s-style Hoverchair!

Marvel Legends Professor X in HoverchairI mean, what is there to say about this? Charles Xavier in action figure form never looked so good. Love the helmet, love the Charles headsculpt, love the chair and levitating effects piece. Nothing but a sickening amount of love for this. Bravo, Hasbro!

But while Professor Xavier won’t be part of the actual 2019 Marvel Legends X-Men Series, we now approximately half of the figures that will be!

Marvel Legends Gambit 2019 X-Men Series Figure SDCC 2018Fans (including me) have been demanding a Hasbro Gambit Legends figure year after year, and they’ll finally get the definitive 90s Gambit next year! With a perfect facial sculpt, a bo staff and an effects piece playing card, I hope and pray Hasbro double-packs this Gambit so that he’s a cinch for collectors to find!

X-Men Marvel Legends 2019 Blink Figure Official PhotoNext up is a rather unexpected pick—the first-ever Marvel Legends Blink figure! I liked her in her Generation X and New Mutants appearances, and fell in love with her during Age of Apocalypse. As the central character of Marvel’s Exiles, I’m thrilled to see Blink get some love in ML form.

2019 Marvel Legends Skullbuster Reavers X-Men FigureBut if you thought Blink was an off-the-wall pick, you ain’t seen nothing yet! The last entry announced for the X-Men series at SDCC also happens to be one of the most crazy-obscure picks they’ve ever made: Skullbuster of the Reavers! I won’t lie—I had to Wiki this dude myself because my memory just does not recall his existence.

Hasbro strongly hinted that we’ll be seeing a Marvel Legends Forge figure as part of this wave as well, as he’s known for killing Skullbuster (or at least, as known as you can be for killing a character 99.9% of comic book readers may have forgotten ever existed). Hopefully we’ll see Forge at NYCC 2018!

Box Front Marvel Legends X-Men Wolverine and Sentinel Exclusive SetWhile no other members of the X-Men Build-A-Figure series were announced at the show (or the BAF itself), Hasbro did also give us some information on some X-Men Legends exclusives.

Target Exclusive Marvel Legends Sentinel and Wolverine Set PackagedThat much-desired Sentinel with Days it Future Past Wolverine that was meant as a Toys R Us exclusive? Looks like it’s going to Target instead! Target has a good track record for ordering adequate supplies of exclusives, so I’m glad to see the Marvel Legends Sentinel in good hands.

Marvel Legends Sentinel and Days of Future Past Wolverine Figure SetRelease date and price of the Sentinel and DOFP Wolverine box set are both still unknown, but at least we know that it is still coming.

Marvel Legends Exclusive Archangel Figure with Apocalypse ClawAs I talked about last night, a refreshed Marvel Legends Archangel is already up for order online and coming toward the end of the year. He’s got four heads (yes, four—I am ashamed I was incapable of counting past three when I talked about him yesterday), a metallic sheen on his wings and a Claw attachment for the Apocalypse Build-A-Figure.

Marvel Legends 2018 Archangel Exclusive Figure with 3 HeadsI’ve seen quite a bit of griping over the $29.99 MSRP for this Archangel, but I don’t have an issue with it: given the size of the wings and all the accessories, expecting this figure at the usual $20 price-point just seems unrealistic to me these days.

Walgreens Exclusive Marvel Legends Magik Figure 2018

Finally, we’ve got an exclusive coming to Walgreens stores: Marvel Legends Magik! The SDCC Exclusive Magik figure from the Book of Vishanti set from years back was selling for $100+ and was ridiculously hard to get, so I think many, many fans will be grateful to have a better chance at getting a Magik figure at retail now.

Hasbro’s changed up some of the paint and tooling for this Magik so that she’s definitely not a repack, and I really dig the flaming Purgatory Dragon demon pack-in. Great use for that Lockheed mold! Looks like we’re getting nine total accessories with Magik–quite a nice haul!

Marvel Legends Magik Figure PackagedThe Marvel Legends X-Men 2019 series should go up for order sometime next spring, with the rest of the series anticipated to be revealed slowly between now and New York Toy Fair 2019. I’ll post more updates whenever Hasbro lets us see something else from the wave. There’s no concrete dates available yet on when we should expect Magik, the Sentinel or Professor X.

…And there you have it! 8 different X-Men figures coming our way between now and SDCC 2019! What do you think, Marvel collectors? Are you happy with the selections Hasbro made, and who do you want to see fill the remaining spots in next year’s wave?

SDCC: Marvel Legends 2019 X-Men! Professor X! Gambit! Sentinel! — 37 Comments

  1. These are all amazing!!! That hoverchair is a dream come true. Hehe

I keep reading the Sentinel set is an Amazon exclusive and then others say Target? Is it both?

And if it is Target and Walgreen’s gets Magik, how do those without those stores get them? Especially those in Canada, UK, etc.

    • I’ve read more saying it’s amazon, which I hope it is. Amazon does a way better job of stocking merchandise than target does. It is often the target won’t even get the exclusive, and when they do it’s just a few so the first person to catch it takes them all. I’m glad it’s not a Walmart exclusive, they are worse lol.

  2. Some great figures to look forward to for sure! But I’ve never been a fan of that marvel universe sentinel design. The proportions just aren’t right, it looks too blocky. Was hoping that the build a figure would be a sentinel but I suppose with the Days of Future Past set being released that is unlikely.

  3. Glad they kept Blink’s AoA look for the figure. I don’t buy most of the X figs, but I’d go nuts for a line of AoA-based ones.

    • I wish she came with her bag for her arrows a la AOA Blink though. I googled Blink Exiles and that version doesn’t seem to have the bag.

  4. Excited for:
    – Magik: glad to see a lot of accessories, its a promising theme for WG exclusives
    – Prof X: been waiting on this for awhile!
    – Archangel: $30 bucks is reasonable especially if you have the Apoc BAF already

I don’t know much about Skullbuster but he is certainly a visually appealing figure even if a lot of Deathlok re-use.

Gambit, Blink look fine but not really my era of X-Men. The Sentinel looks fine altho inferior to the BAF but probably won’t be able to afford anyhow it unless it ends up on discount after awhile (which seems dubious). but it is definitely nice for fans who still have some $$ after the crazy number of waves we’ve seen already this year

  5. hope for a Warpath ( first X – Force costume ) a first appearance Storm !!!
but most of all : STRONGGUY as a BAF !!!!!!!!!!!!

    Please Hasbro Please !!!!!

  6. Do you know how the Wallgreen exclusives are sold internationally? Just wondering how easy Magik will be to get here in the UK?

  7. Its a Target exclusive. They said so at the panel. Not sure where these Amazon runors came from. Someone “guessed” it might be an Amazon exclusive and all you guys took it and ran with that. Its a Target ezclusive. End of story. Please put the rumor to bed.

  8. As far as the X-men wave, would be nice if they finished the 90’s team. Need a new Beast, better Iceman, new Jubilee (they already have the mold), Jean Grey(again they already have the mold), storm 90s, and colossus. Id be fine with anymore oroginal xforce members too.

  9. Really need a new Nightcrawler figure! So difficult to get the old figure without paying lots of money. He is my favorite, and one of the most beloved X-Men historically…should be a no-brainer!

    • SO TRUE! But, I want him with a better head mold. The one they made isn’t bad, it’s just boxy and looks angry. It should be thinner, more angular, and smiling. I don’t know about you guys, but I also like him with longer hair like in Red.

  10. Marc Silvestri was the artist who went to town with the Reavers (who were just in Logan, by the way) so his release is off by a year or so.

Maybe if people made the obvious connection to “Cyber Force” he’d be a little more welcomed

The Reavers are one of my favorite villain teams for the X Men; Bone Crusher was one of the best in the 5 inch line

  11. Please make a Habrolab 6inch scale Blackbird. Still need a 90s Beast, Jubilee, Storm and Jean Grey.

  12. I’m hoping for Legion, Wolfsbane, and Lilandra. Maybe another 90’s X-Force member – Warpath, Rictor or Siryn.

  13. Between Skullbuster and Forge I wonder if they’re going to come with spare heads/parts to army build some Reavers–seems like a super obscure character choice, if not! It’s probably too soon for another Jean Grey, but I’d love to have her in her X-Men: Red duds, maybe with a Honey Badger BAF.

  14. Finally a blink!! We needed a blink as she was eye catching in the movie and popular in the series!! Love blink!

  15. I convinced myself there was going to be an announcement about Wolfbane for next year seeing as we got Havok in 2016, Polaris in 2017 and Madrox this year; it seemed like we were getting a member of the 2nd incarnation of X-Factor every year.

I also hoped they would announce another Deadpool wave with the Blue Deadpool from the TRU 2pk, Siryn, Rusty Collins, Slapstick, Stingray, Vanisher & a Warpath BAF. I think the 2nd wave of Spider-Man figs next year should include a Firestar since Mutants are OK again. Finally, the next Avengers wave should include both an updated Quicksilver and an MCU Quicksilver (10yr), a Crystal, the other two Black Order members, Starfox & a Lockjaw BAF

    • Do they even want to make a Starfox though? The whole joke about him is that he’s just a walking sexual assault case.

  16. you know how they have a Best of Marvel Legends at the end of every Year but thats for MCU figures…can we have like a Most Wanted Marvel Legends Line every 3 years for comic figures… and have them rerelease hard to get Figures like Jim Lee Cyclops… Deadpool with Taco… Pizza Spidey… Jubilee… Colossus… Black Nick Fury… Agent Venom…these have reached some ridiculous scalper prices due to their hard to find-ness…

  17. Griping over $30?
In the UK £30 is quite common for Marvel Legends, and if Archangel is prices at $30 I expect him to sell closer to £40. Convert that to dollars then you won’t be griping at how much you guys get to pay.

    All figures look awesome though.

  18. I am THE MOST GIDDY over these announcements!!! I’ve wanted a Magik Marvel Legends figure since she was released in that set…and now she looks even better! I never thought they would make an Archangel figure, let alone one that looks this AMAZING!
    I Want Them Now!
    😍

  19. I looove blink ever seeing her in days of future past, so happy she’s finally getting an action figuer.

  20. Gambit looks really good and I’m glad that we’ll be able to get magik. I’m still holding out hope for exodus, silver samurai, high evolutionary and a build a figure nimrod. Hopefully that will come to fruition.
