Sideshow Teases New Red Skull Premium Format Figure!

We’re not even a third of the way through July yet, but Sideshow is seriously going all-out for their Online Comic Con 2013. We’ve already had a ton of new pre-orders go up for sale, including the massive Planet Hulk Gladiator Hulk Premium Format Figure, as well as the second Premium Format Black Widow. So to complete the Hat Trick, Sideshow is teasing us today with another Marvel Premium Format statue (and it’s even wearing a hat): it’s the upcoming Red Skull Premium Format Figure statue!

Sideshow Red Skull Premium Format Figure Teaser Photo 2013

This particular teaser photo released by Sideshow Collectibles obviously isn’t a lot to go on, but I think this Red Skull portrait looks extremely promising thus far. Even though the hat looks very similar to the one from the 2011 Captain America movie, I don’t see Hugo Weaving in this head sculpt at all, so for the moment I’m going to assume that this is intended to be a second comic-based Red Skull Premium Format Figure. I say second, because Sideshow previously released a Premium Format Figure of the Red Skull back in 2008…

Sideshow Premium Format Red Skull Statue 2008I’m not the biggest Red Skull fan to begin with, and I definitely was not enamored with the original Sideshow Red Skull Premium Format statue. Sometimes soft goods look terrific, and sometimes they look awful–this is the latter. I just couldn’t get behind the aesthetic of the soft goods uniform on this first Premium Format Figure Red Skull figure at all. Of course, the original Red Skull Premium Format Figure sells for about $450-$500 on ebay these days, so Sideshow is probably correct in assuming that there’s a market for another Red Skull statue. Can a new Captain America Premium Format Figure be far behind?

Red Skull Wearing Hat Poster from Captain America 2011 MovieYou can check out Red Skull and all the other Comic Con Preview Photos on the Sideshow Collectibles Website. Unlike the previous Sideshow Marvel Premium Format Figures we’ve seen previewed this month, the Red Skull doesn’t look like he’s anywhere near close to being ready for pre-order. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see him go up for sale toward the end of the month, but I really doubt that he’llĀ  be up for sale in the next few days. I’ll post an update on the site and on the Marvel Toy News Facebook page as soon as Sideshow reveals more information on this new Red Skull statue.
