2014 SDCC Exclusive Hasbro Marvel Infinity Gauntlet Figures Set!

Hasbro did a superb job this year of keeping their SDCC 2014 Marvel Legends exclusive set of 6″ figures under wraps until they were ready to grandly unveil it today. Their 3.75″ Marvel Infinite Series SDCC 2014 exclusive set…? Not so much. We’d seen some photos leak from Asia over the last few weeks, and I instantly guessed that we would be getting a Thanos-themed Marvel Universe exclusive set. And, as expected, that’s exactly what we’re getting–but it’s also coming with a really cool wearable, foam Infinity Gauntle! It’s the SDCC 2014 Marvel Infinity Gauntlet figures set!

Hasbro SDCC 2014 Marvel Infinite Gauntlet Exclusive Figures SetI griped quite a bit about the absence of a Marvel Legends Thanos figure in the San Diego Comic Con 2014 Marvel Legends Thanos Imperartive box set. But while Hasbro managed to omit Thanos from that set and dodge having to create new tooling for everyone’s favorite Mad Titan, there was no way they could get away with such a thing for the Marvel Infinite Series Infinity Gauntlet set, which will be available exclusively for $74.99 at SDCC 2014 July 23-27, 2014.

Exclusive SDCC 2014 Thanos Figure Hasbro Infinity Gauntlet

And frankly, Hasbro didn’t need to circumvent including a 3.75″ Thanos action figure in this year’s Marvel Infinite Series/Marvel Universe SDCC 2014 Exclusive Hasbro set. Hasbro already created a Marvel Universe Thanos figure several years ago which they’ve produced many runs of, and they even had a cool smiling Thanos head lying around from the Marvel Universe “Greatest Battles” Thanos & Adam Strange two-pack.

So basically, the Thanos figure that comes in this 2014 SDCC exclusive Infinity Gauntlet figure set is the same Thanos we already have–just with some new paint and a really neat translucent Infinity Gauntlet hand (which isn’t new, but has always been painted before and not translucent). As crazy as it’s gonna sound, though, this is the figure I like the best in this San Diego Comic Con exclusive set.

SDCC 2014 Marvel Infinite Series Starfox Figure Exclusive Eros HasbroThe sole “good guy” included in this set is the Avenger, Eros (AKA Starfox). This is the first time I can remember a Marvel Starfox figure being made by any company (HeroClix absolutely does not count), and that’s probably with good reason. No offense to his fans, but Starfox, with his pleasure-stimulating ability, is quite possible the single creepiest member of the Avengers ever. And the snap-on Infinity Gauntlet Hasbro showed with the prototype looks downright awful, unfortunately.

2014 SDCC Exclusive Hasbro Marvel Infinite Series Nebula Figure

The other exclusive SDCC 2014 figure we saw photos leaked of is Nebula, Thanos’ “sort-of” daughter. If she wasn’t going be in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, I would consider Nebula the kind of Z-Lister that’s scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as character selection goes. I’m not particularly interested in Nebula despite her classic appearances in the Infinity Gauntlet and Kree-Skrull War stories, but I’m happy for the (few) people who’ve been wanting her.

Finally, we get the first-ever Marvel Death figure! This isn’t the first time a company has done a Lady Death Marvel item–Bowen Designs actually made a terrific statue of Death quite a few years ago, and Marvel Select produced a Death of their own with the Marvel Select Thanos–but this is the first time a Death figure has been produced in the 4″ scale. Disappointingly, Death is very obviously just a statue with little or no articulation and a switch-out human head/hand.

SDCC 2014 Exclusive Death Marvel Universe FigureI’ll be updating over the course of the next month as the final few companies who haven’t yet announce their own 2014 SDCC exclusives, and you can ‘Like’ Marvel Toy News on Facebook to have news and photos sent right to your Facebook Newsfeed.

What do you think of the Marvel Infinite Series Infinity Gauntlet SDCC 2014 exclusive set, Marvel fans? Will you be aiming for this set, the Thanos Imperative Marvel Legends set, or neither when San Diego Comic-Con 2014 rolls around in just two months’ time?

2014 SDCC Exclusive Hasbro Marvel Infinity Gauntlet Figures Set! — 12 Comments

  1. Were it $60 or less, I’d get it, but I’m not sure it’s worth $75 for minor characters. The Marvel Select Thanos came with Death, however to get one at this scale would be awesome.

  2. Nebula and Starfox?! SOLD! Hopefully not “sold out” before I can get one; I like everything about this set. Even still after having got the Adam/Thanos 2pak.
Lady Death pack-in similar to the Marvel select ver,as Matt mentioned, makes this a miasma amalgamation of awesomesauce magnitude! Lol.

    • Oh my god, I’m going senile in my old age. I have the Death figure sitting on my Marvel Select shelf that’s three feet away from me.

  3. You have got to be kidding me, I hope this set bombs and hasbro ends up eating the cost of this piece of garbage. Just when I was thinking hasbro might give us something good the go and do this.

    • Don’t complain, we should just b great full that hasbro gives us any thing is wot u said a phew weeks back! Ha ha

  4. That is wkd! I can’t wait to put the gauntlet on and punch people that r smaller than me out of the way wen I go c gotg

  5. I could be wrong, but I think this set will warm the shelves at SDCC. I think the price point is a little too high for what is included. Four Universe figures are worth about $45, and I don’t see the Guantlet as being worth an additional $30. Two years ago it was impossible to get the Legends X-Force set without camping out in line overnight to get a ticket from Hasbro. Even on preview night there was a mad rush at the Hasbro booth and they were quickly overwhelmed and suspended sales. And this was within 5 minutes of the doors opening – I’m not exaggerating, literally 5 minutes! That same year, the MU Masters of Evil set was still available on the last day. Last year both the ML Thunderbolts set and the MU Deadpool set were available all the way to the end of the show. Maybe Hasbro produced more sets based on the X-Force sales but Thunderbolts and Deadpool Tacos just weren’t as appetizing to the ravenous fans. I passed on both sets last year which I now tremendously regret. Hasbro is going to need to bring the ML Thanos Imperative set in the tens of thousands – I’d say at least double the number of X-Force sets from two years ago if they are going to come anywhere close to satisfying demand. The MU Thanos Infinity Guantlet set however, will warm the shelves at the Hasbro booth.

    • I agree 100 percent. i dont see how anyone would even consider paying 70 dollars for this garbage. Complete disapointment. I have no idea who any of these characters are with the exception of thanos. This comes off as a low blow from hasbro, just throw together some parts and create the crappiest figures possible and put a 70 dollar price tag on it. Real lack of enthusiasm on hasbros part.

  6. A follow-up to my previous post:
My experience two years ago after being shut-out on preview night was to buy both the ML X-Force set and the MU Masters of Evil set from a dealer first thing in the morning on day one. (How certain dealers get ahold of these “exclusives” before the show starts is a mystery to me.) I paid nearly double the price at the Hasbro Booth which was $44 for X-Force and $33 for MoE, but I had to have ’em. It turned out be a great deal for X-Force which quickly shot up to triple the Hasbro price, and a really poor deal on MoE which was still available at the Hasbro booth on the last day long after the lines had died down. I expect a similar scenario to play out this year: The ML Thanos Imperative set will be a huge hit and will sell out quickly, but the MU Thanos Infinity Gauntlet set will bomb. In order to satisfy demand, Hasbro will need to haul in absolutely huge numbers of the ML set. I hope they do. (Even though I don’t actually have badge yet for SDCC 2014 yet.)

  7. Death in 3 and 3/4 has been produced before, with the original Clash of the Titans action figures by Mego, I think.

    • I was actually thinking about the Marvel version of Death specifically, but I’d be lying if I said the Clash of the Titans Death was on my mind when I wrote this article.
