New Funko Marvel POP Vinyls! She-Hulk! Spider-Gwen!

When Funko only brought hand-painted samples of half of this year’s wave of comic-based Marvel POP Vinyls figures to New York Toy Fair last month–and just concept artwork of the other half–I figured that mean that we were probably several months away from seeing this new assortment of Marvel POPs placed up for grabs. Turns out that’s not quite the case, though! Not only were these 2016 Funko Marvel POP Vinyls announced officially this week–Spider-Gwen, She-Hulk, Doctor Strange and more are now up for order on Amazon!

Funko Marvel POP Vinyls Summer 2016 Wave

With the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) being so wildly successful, strictly comic book fans have gotten shorted a bit the last few years in the non-movie Marvel vinyl figures department, with the majority of new mass release figures being geared toward fans of the MCU

That’s why I was surprised–and totally thrilled–to see an entire new wave of a half a dozen comics-based characters debuted at New York Toy Fair 2016 last month! And just one month later, the whole half dozen is available to buy!

Let’s take a look at the characters who make up this series…

Funko Spider Gwen POP Vinyls Figure
Spider-Gwen is basically the hottest thing going at Marvel that’s not named “Deadpool”, and has what’s likely to go down as one of the best female character designs ever. The black, white, sky blue and pink color scheme is just too awesome!

Gwen Stacy + Peter Parker is my OTP, so I fell in love instantly where Spider-Gwen debuted in Edge of Spider-Verse. This is probably going to be my favorite Marvel POP Vinyl of 2016.

Funko She-Hulk POP Vinyl Figure
…Although Spider-Gwen will be facing some stiff competition from my favorite superheroine ever, She-Hulk!

It certainly doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing Jennifer Walters in the MCU any time soon, but as she’s seemingly central to the Civil War II comic book crossover, this is a good year for Funko to release her!

Can I get a Glow-in-the-Dark She-Hulk, please?

Funko Falcon POP Vinyls Figure Comics BasedAfter having to appear in four movies to earn his first movie POP just this month, a classic Falcon POP Vinyl will be flying into stores this summer!

I love love Anthony Mackie, but I had the Mattel Secret Wars Falcon as a kid, so I’m partial to this red and white costume.

Funko Doc Ock POP Vinyl Doctor OctopusSpider-Man’s rogues gallery will continue to grow with a very classic comic-based Doctor Octopus POP Vinyl! I’m really curious to see how the Funko Doc Ock arms are attached to his back. Fun, surprising choice.

Funko Doctor Strange POP Vinyl Figure

The series is rounded out with comic book versions of two characters who’ll be getting their own movies between now and 2018: Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel! Doctor Strange really pops with his cape and bright colors.

Considering how hard Carol Danvers has been pushed the last few years, I’m sort of surprised it’s taken this long for her to get a POP. I am ecstatic that Funko chose the short-haired look for her.

Also, if you’re a variant guy, I would give 99% odds a masked Captain Marvel will be appearing as well…

Funko Captain Marvel POP Vinyl UnmaskedAll six of these Marvel POP! Vinyls are now available for order online, and are free shipping eligible. They’re scheduled to be released in summer 2016, and I suspect with all the headliner characters in this wave, will be quite hard to find at retail for a while. The 6″ Giant-Man figure is also now available online.

What do you think of this wave of a half-dozen new comic book POPs, Marvel fans? Did Funko hit the bullseye with their character selection for this series, or are there other comics-based characters you would have preferred been included in this lineup instead?

  1. LOVE the classic figures. Great to see Falcon and She Hulk especially! Now… Gotta say it… Classic Hawkeye? With the H mask please? Please Funko?

  2. Hoping we get more comic characters like Bucky Barnes captain america or scarlet spider!

  3. I wonder is there a reason why the Marvel characters are all bobble heads. I prefer the non bobble head versions…and wish they did non bobble head for Marvel. Which is why despite having cool figures I don’t buy funko pop marvel characters.

    • Hasbro owns the master license for Marvel figures in that scale, and would never allow Funko to make figures. Having the POPs be bobble heads is the only way they can ever be made.

Honestly, it doesn’t bother me at all that they’re bobble heads. I don’t even notice.

  4. I can see all the she hulk variants now. Maybe not with a “4” on her chest, but definitely a few repaints.
